Expect the worst, and anything less is a pleasant surprise.

And who doesn't like a pleasant surprise?
"When I was a rookie, [Bird] and Kevin McHale were arguing.  So I asked Kevin McHale what they were arguing about.  And he says, 'we're just trying to figure out who you're going to guard.'  I said, 'what you mean?' and he said, 'oh, you're dead meat, rook.'" - Charles Barkley

Ah, a sanctuary. Let's go over some green-goggled optimistic positives!

- Undermanned and facing terrible refs, fought NYC and MIA to almost a draw, but cost us the NOH game by overplaying our guys
- Rondo has been great
- Ray is on fire
- Sasha actually looked decent tonight
- KG, as Doc has said many times before, is a slow starter - he'll get into a rhythm
- JO had great looks, he's a good enough player to make those bunnies. They'll fall. Defensively, a lot of questionable calls taking him from great to terrible
- Dooling has a ton of energy and can play
- Daniels is savvy (that's all I've really got, he's disappointed me a lot so far - he needs Pietrus to push him to the 2)
- Bass might not like to pass, but he's got a bundle of energy, can block shots, knock down jumpers and can dunk. Sometimes, he shoots because there's no other real option
- Wilcox has a lot of energy, just getting the mental stuff down - gotta get healthy
- Steamer can make an easy bucket and blocks everything in his path - he'll get the mental rotation and rebounding stuff in time, he's a solid individual defender as is
- JJJ looked good in garbage time, a lot of aggression - probably not going to see much time this year but I liked what I saw
- Bradley/Moore - TBD haha both have a lot of potential and talent, just not all there yet

Yes, I'm leaving out a lot of the negatives but hey, it's the optimism thread. Beat the Pistons and take the Wizards twice and we're rolling again.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

  • Rondo = Good
Stiemsma looks like a legitimate NBA defensive player out there.  No idea if he can do enough on offense to stay on the floor on a team with any kind of depth at center, but he made some really nice blocks tonight.  There was at least one trip down when he stopped guys from scoring three separate times.

9 of the next 11 at home...nothing like home cooking.

Their opponents:

Detroit
@ Washington
Washington
New Jersey
Indiana
Dallas
Chicago
@ Indiana
OKC
Toronto
Phoenix
@ Washington

I could see a 10-5 record by the time this schedule is up, especially given there are only two back to backs in this group of games and that Pierce and Pietrus will be with the team before long.

As long as we are healthy for the playoffs I will be cool with any seed we get. Rather be the 8 seed and at full strength then the 3 seed and running out of gas. This team has what it takes to win a title.

Since my opinion is the opinion that matters the most to me  ??? , here goes.

The the celtics have an experienced, talented (if aging) core group.  The bench has some intriguing pieces.

I do believe Doc is a talented coach.  I don't think Danny is done tinkering with the roster yet.

I do believe the team will make the playoffs, and at some point will get their stuff together, making a run, and surprising some people. We have done the early run, late burn out/injury thing...this year health and timing of the run are the most important aspects.

I know people can't help it and I have found myself drawn into the negativity (depressing), but it is too early to lose hope, so I won't.

No matter what happens we still have the best uniforms.  Whether Bret Szabo or Larry Bird's wearing one, no one can beat the classic green and white.
