it  should be Al Horford.

He has the temperament and respect of all. He played last year. He leads by example. He has not thrown anyone under the bus.

Agreed. Very respected on and off the court.

I think naming captains is pointless, personally.

If he's a leader, he'll lead.  Shouldn't need a silly badge or title to do it.

Kyrie Irving, once he signs the extension.

For now, it's Al Horford.

Sometimes it's helpful having a single defined leader. But it's important for that leader to demand the necessary respect.

If you don't have a single leader you run the risk of factional leaders and an increased chance of a locker room split.

The trouble comes with who that person is. Al seems the obvious choice but even he could be gone in the summer in an AD trade.

It's either Al or Marcus Smart for me. There are other leaders, just like there were when Pierce was captain. However those two have the longevity and the credibility to make it work

If the Celts do that, who else are we going to throw into literally every single trade proposal?

Wouldn't name a captain right now cause it may alienate Kyrie ahead of free agency. I mean, he views himself as the de facto leader of this team. Unless of course we plan to pick Kyrie, but I don't think he's captain material.

Having said that, if we were to chose a captain I'd pick Smart over Horford.

I don't get your Kyrie thinking on this topic, sounds like pure speculation.

That said, I agree it should be Smart or Horford and I lean towards Smart.  Horford is not vocal enough.

I don't see it being of a pending concern.
