Celtics should sign Holmes before somebody else does.  If we don't get Harris, he might be our top free agent pickup.
Everyone wants truth on his side, not everyone wants to be on the side of truth.

lol just read the rest of the thread.

Other than Harris, I am not much excited with the other available FA 'swings'.

A rotation of Crowder/Jerebko/Holmes is not fireworks, but should work out fine.

And when you've decided it's Harris you are after, you are told no, it's probably Monroe.

Danny would have made a great KGB agent in the Cold War.

Confirming that our interest in bigs is limited (Monroe seems to be the exception) Zach Lowe twitted today we are not really interested in Biyombo.

There might be some friction between Harris and Skiles

Could Corey Brewer be our swing?

Woj says we 'had conversations'.

I would prefer not signing anybody, to signing Brewer.

He is a good player, but we have many of those. We do not need the perimeter defense he brings that badly. To me this would be just another backlog.

Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

This only raises my hopes. Harris sounds like the most realistic upgrade on the wing.

5m had a great point on the main page. We more or less NEED to sign at least 1 high level talent this summer. It is long but I will still paste it here:

"One more important aspect. If you DON'T get a couple of these guys this year, you probably CAN'T get the two of them (or similar players) next year.
What people are casually lumping into the "tier 2" category, players like Harris and Monroe, are younger players, under 7 years of service, who qualify up to a max contract starting at 15.3M this summer.

As it stands right now, Danny would be able add two of such players, for a starting total hit of about 31M. Depending on how he handles it, given current obligations, that would put his total paid salary budget for this coming season at right around the salary cap of ~67M, give or take a bit. He may have an official ‘cap number’ that’s well over that if he does the transactions with S&Ts, and doesn’t go under the cap. Or, if he has to renounce all his holds, then that number will be his official number. ’Doesn’t matter for this exercise.

Now, given his current obligations for the following season (2016-17), and adding in some rough padding for some raises and next year’s picks, if he takes on that ~31M in contracts for two significant players now, Danny would enter next Summer with around 50-55M obligated in guarantees for 2016-17. There would be some holes in the roster to fill, and some options to consider renewing or extending, but that’s a rough estimate of where he should be at the this point a year from now. That sounds like a lot, right?

But next year, the salary cap is expected to jump to about 89M. That means Danny would still have about 34-39M of cap space to work with. That should be enough to sign one more max contract player and still fill out the rest of his roster. So, by buying two max guys now, he can end next summer with THREE max contract guys on the roster.

Now, let’s consider if he DOESN’T sign two guys this summer. Let’s say he holds his cards now. Well, that means he’d hit next Summer without those two contracts in obligations and, assuming he renounced any holds, he’d have what would amount to about 66-71M of cap space to work with. That sounds great, right? Surely he could get three max players with that, right? Wrong.

The problem is, next year, the cost of a sub-7 year max contract player will zoom from this year’s 15.3M all the way up to 20.4M. That means, to buy those same two players, he’d have to fork out an additional 10M. Instead of costing a little over 32M for those two guys, it will cost about 42M out of next year’s cap space. That will reduce the space left after you just got back to where we were in scenario above to just 24-29M. THAT is probably NOT enough to get both another max contract player AND properly fill out the rest of the roster. So Danny would end next summer, probably with only two max players, not three.

So, it’s very important for folks to realize: NOT spending this summer may NOT save cap space next summer. It may do the opposite. It may impair Danny’s ability to add more star talent.

Now, it’s obviously important to not spend money just for the sake of spending it. I would not spend a max contract this summer on a player who I didn’t think was deserving of it long term. And if Danny can’t get the ones he wants to come here, he can’t make them come here. So in the end, we may NOT end next summer with three max contract players on roster. That’s not the end of the world, but it means we’ll be more dependent on the emergence of our developmental talent.

Another factor to consider in this Free Agency

Salary cap 2 mill higher than projected

Brewer doesn't even have an average FG% and he has a tendency to shoot too much to my liking. I prefer to develop Young or even Hunter at the SF position offensively.
It looks like it's either Harris or nothing since Middleton will resign with the Bucks.
