Title: Newest Celtics Babies (share your happy news / pictures here)
Post by: ACF on March 02, 2008, 11:56:42 AM
Well, here I go:
I'M GOING TO BE A FATHER!!!  :)

Our due date is August 28 and (needless to say)
my girlfriend and I are so happy...
This will be our first child, so it's really
exciting for us.

So I figured I'd do a thread about this and every time
someone is expecting a little one, feel free to share the
beautiful news with everyone right here  :)

Congratulations!  That's very exciting news, for sure.  All the best to you and your girlfriend.

Now, for the important stuff, make sure you raise your baby the proper way:  to love the Celtics, and to hate the Lakers. ;)

Also, wonderful suggestion about making a sort of official thread for such things.  I'm going to sticky this at the top of the Community forum.

Thanks!
I'll give my gf your regards and as far as loving the C's
and hating the Fakeshow, well:
Do bears defecate in the woods?  ;D

I figured it would be better to have just one thread, since
this board is mostly about hoops....

Dark Lord:

That's totally awesome news ... there's no greater blessing on this earth, and no job that's as demanding, or rewarding. All the very best to you and your wife for a future filled with joy and happy memories! Please let me share a little thing I wrote to another blogger when I was first here in December, (he had just become a "first time" father) ... kinda sums it up for me. God Bless!

My "baby" is finishing her second year in college, and honestly, it was just a moment ago I was singing her lullaby's and rubbing her back while she went to sleep each night. I was a single dad... it was just me and her against the world, and I gotta tell you, she saved my life ... more than once.

Without that precious little angel, (and the halo slips from time to time), counting on me, looking to me to help find her way in this crazy world, man ... I just thank God for whatever heavenly mix-up landed her in my life, and I've been thanking Him since the day I first laid eyes on her, (and mine were the first she ever looked into).

I used to hear other dads talk about their babies, how they wouldn't sleep through the night, and what a relief it was when they finally did, and I would think to myself how much I cherished those times in the middle of the night, giving her the bottle and rocking her in my arms ... singing softly until she went back to sleep.

Yeah, there was always a brief moment of wanting to go back to sleep myself, but the reward was so much greater ... we bonded then, in a way inexpressable, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Yes, that age IS special ... priceless, really ... and you're blessed, my friend, in a way that's beyond words.

So cherish it with everything you are, for it's gone in the wink of an eye. I look back on those times with awe, when life was discovery and wonder ... and I begin to wish them back.

Then I get a call or a surprise visit from her on the weekend, and see what an amazing human being she has become ... so smart, beautiful, talented, and driven, and I know that I wouldn't trade THESE times either, for she's still that little girl, and so much more.

Each moment has it's own reward ... each age it's special accomplishment, and it's REALIZING how precious each ONE of those moments are that makes the difference.

I'll tell ya, there's nothing like a child to put things into perspective, even when it's "sports trauma", that we Boston fans have come to know SOOOO well! No championship or world title can come close to the joy of a first step, or a first "Da-da", or the sound of a belly-laugh.

Didn't mean to wax nostalgic here, but I did want to relate to you that there are many of us out here who have been where you are right now, with that amazing bundle of smiles, at the point of realizing the TRUE priorities in life, and you're a lucky man, my friend ... a truly lucky man.

Someday a while from now, when you have to change a nasty diaper, or warm a bottle at 2AM, or clean crayon off the wall, or watch "Barney" just "one more time", try to remember that it's those really mundane moments, those "daily grind" kind of moments, that make up a little life that's irreplaceable, and that's looking to you to light the way.

Even though there will come a day when your heart will break, with the first real date, or the last Father & Daughter Dance, or dropping off at college ... you'll still have a FULL heart, knowing this was a love that was "born to fly away", and knowing that maybe, just MAYBE ... you did something right!

God bless you and your little one ... I pray there are many such times to come, and a life full of blessings!

Congratulations and the best to you and your
little family. Great news!

I'm still somewhat in disbelief that I'll be
a father too, but it just takes one tiny look
at my girlfriend's stomach to convince me  :)

#2 on the way here also. Due 8/28. Our first is only 15 months right now but the other day when I was watching a game, he came in and climbing onto a chair and sat there watching it with me for like 5 to 10 minutes (which for a 15 month old to sit for that long is incredible). Gotta teach 'em early...Celtics Good...Lakers Bad.

Don't know if this counts but My son and his wife had a baby boy in January, making me a grandpa for the first time. I must admit, I like being a grandfather much more than I thought I would.
They're fun to play with and you can return them when they need to be changed.

Coming soon to a CelticsBlog near you: Infant/Toddler T-Shirts, Bodysuits and the all-important Bib.

Puppy T-Shirts too. I would add that these, for those of you who have more than eight pints of blood you can let, might look real nice on your kitty-kat too!

My lovely wife is 14 weeks pregnant with our first child ...yay
The other day I was trawling Ebay for celtics gear as I normally do, and happened upon a nike Celtics baby suit. Naturally, I did everything in my powers to make this item ours (there was only one bid...thought there would be 100's).
So what we will have is the coolest little Celtics in Australia, though unfortunately for him (its a him by the way) he may be wearing it until he is 14

Oooh. I'm so sorry I didn't have our babysuits ready. We will have a few and possibly one that states, "Pwease wate. Baby CelticsBwogguh Diapuh-filwin in pwogress." and would include a status bar. (I promise they'll all be under $5,000 USD.)

Dark_lord, I am so sorry to hear.  You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers.

My daughter turned 7 weeks today.  She is adorable, and getting big quick.  She has these little Celtics slippers I got her, and my friend that works for the NBA got her a ton of Celtics stuff, and an All-Star weekend track suit.

Dark_lord, I am really sorry to hear that, real tragedy.  My thoughts and condolences to your family, losing a child is just unimaginable.  My family is actually going through a rough patch right now with a death in the family.  It doesn't help that we are moving to another country next month and really complicates things.

Ahhh...That's a real bummer dark_lord

There are all sorts of ways to be philosophical about losing a child before its born, but bottom line is it's a big bummer.  Makes you extra grateful for the health of the one you have.

Thoughts are with you and your wife.

I lost two this way, DL, so I know where you're at right now, and it's not a nice place to be. Everyone must find their own way to come to grips with such a thing, but what helped my (then) wife and I at the time, was knowing that it was a natural course, and that it generally happens because there's something wrong with the developmental process, and this is the body's way of resolving that issue.

It may have been endangering your wife, or it may have been an issue with the baby's health. Whatever the disposition, it was something serious enough for the body's self-defense mechanism to take over, and was very likely what needed to take place. Knowing that really doesn't help the pain much, but feeling it wasn't just some random event, helped me come to grips with it.

Having spent a great deal of my life in medicine, I know that this has no bearing on future pregnancies ... a miscarriage is not necessarily an indication that that person is prone to them, or that there's a greater chance of it happening again. Each pregnancy is an event unto itself, and a healthy baby next time is just as possible as it was before this event, so I hope you and your wife don't get discouraged from trying again.

There's really not much anyone can say at a time like this .... everyone needs to grieve and heal in their own time and process, and I know you'll find your way, too. Just know that you're not alone, and that there are many here praying and hoping for the best, for you and your family. No matter how dark the storm, the sun always follows, and things will be better soon. God bless you and yours .... I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that, DL...it takes time to get through this, but if the good Lord wants you to have another child, you will.

My wife and I have 4 under the age of 9...3 boys and a girl.  It's funny, they are each unique and you wonder how you can make time for all of them, but you do.  My advice: enjoy every minute of it, because time goes by soooooo fast.  My wife and I uprooted from the midwest and moved to Florida because of our jobs.  I have not seen my parents in 4 years because they don't like to travel and are afraid to fly (and we can't afford to take a family this large on a pair of flights)...driving from Florida to Ohio (2 day trip with 4 kids just isn't in the offing).  My wife and I are now in our mid-30's and are in the process of buying our first home.  You come to realize how quickly life moves on, and your children come to mean everything to you.

Appreciate the stories you guys share...we might not always agree on everything about the Celtics, but about our kids we most definitely can!

I lost my father to cancer just 10 days ago

It just goes to show that we can't take anything

guys,

thanks so much for your words of wisdom, encouragement, sympathy, etc.  it really means alot to me.  it also shows how this blog can really have a sense of community amongst its posters.  its a beautiful thing.

i really debated in sharing in a thread about our loss, but since alot of people congratulated me thru pm's after seeing my post sharing the news of our expected baby, i felt the need to share.

i really dont want to "hijack" this thread with my unfortunate news.  this thread is about sharing the wonderful news and experience of expecting children.  i am so blessed to have my son, and this expereince has not discouraged me and my wife in trying to get pregnant again.  this experience has made me enjoy and be more grateful for having my son.

again, thanks to all that have wished me well.  i truly appreciate it.

btw, amager, sorry to hear about your losing your father.  my thoughts are with you and your family.

dark_lord, I'm sure everyone here do not feel that you
hijacked the thread. Death is a part of life and we
all just have to accept that. I thank you for the kind
words and even though you're on the other side of the

And again, take comfort in what you have, it'll surely
help you cope with this loss...

At the end of January we adopted a 20-month old boy from China.  He has adapted well.  Due to his size, I'm thinking he's not going to play in the NBA unless we tank him up on steroids.  But he's dang cute.

And you never know; if Muggsy can make the NBA, cavman, Jr. can, as well. ;)

Gee, I guess we have to remember those vitamins.
And something to make him grow much taller than me -I'm
only 5'11"! Oh, wait. Weren't Robert Wadlow's parents
of normal height? Maybe we got ourselves a pure center then.
And thank you so much for the TP's!

Edgar, ACF, and Cavman ... Congratulations to all! I'm so sorry I missed all this excitement, as parenthood is very important to me ... guess I'm not on at the right times. You all must be psyched, and now with the C's in the Finals ... life is indeed good, is it not? Though my youngest is now 19 and finishing her 2nd year at Northeastern, (you'll find that a father's duty is to brag at every opportunity), looking back on it all, it's by far the greatest job/experience/blessing in life, being a parent. Probably the hardest, too, and most painful at times, (I'm having a bit of trouble with the whole "empty nest" thing), as a single dad, when they finally leave home for good ... it's tough.

It's all an incredible journey, though, and I think the process forced me to grow as much as they did ... I really envy each one of you! God bless you and your new ones/ones on-the-way ... I pray you have all the blessings a happy family can have! All the best - I hope you'll keep us updated as to their arrivals! :) Cavman: I've been trying to adopt as well, and despite the fact that I've been a "successful" foster parent, it's been a very hard thing to do, (as a single dad). I'm so glad you were successful, as the whole process can be very, very difficult.

Forgive me if you've mentioned this before in this thread, but will this be your first child?

And you mentioned in the "need to make money" thread that staying single was a good way to save money...Kids costs can add up a wee bit too ;)

Yeh the "overdue" time is super stressful.  Just keep in mind that the there is no real "late" baby, they're always right on time, it's our schedule that's messed up.

My first daughter was 8 days "late".  She was due on my birthday then ended up being born the day before my brothers wedding!

Best of luck with everything ACF.  Truly an indescribable event.

Remember that young British
goalkeeper?
(Kirkland? Is that it?)
Well, I think it was his dad who
placed a bet that his son would
be on England's football squad one day.
His dad made a huge amount of money

Place your bets NOW  ;)

Things didn't turn out quite like
we had expected. Our midwife had
told us that our boy was positioned
just right, with his head down and
all, just like it's supposed to be.
Well, she was WRONG!  ???
Anyway, the doctors had to do a
caesarian section on my girlfriend
because we chose it that way. We felt
there was too much risk involved for
her to give birth "naturally".
Besides, the birth could have begun at
any moment, so we had to go with a quick
decision...
We really hope we can experience a
"normal" birth the next time around.

I'll return with a pic of the little
one when we get the time to upload them  :)

My "baby" started kindergarten today :'(

Do your best to suck it all in ACF

It's crazy to think that for a period you can think of your child's life in terms of what they were like last hour, or a day ago, a week ago, a month ago...

Dropping my daughter off today I could practically see graduation caps flying in the air already!

We bought a video camera
for that exact reason  :)
I'm looking forward to all
the milestones in his life.
It really gives you purpose...
I'll try to be the best father
there is and, of course, teach
him the Ways of the Green  :)

Well, here he is:

I don't know ACF he doesn't look too excited to be in that uniform.  Are you sure he's not a Lakers fan?  ;)

On the other hand that might just be the "I'm taking a poop" face.

Well, like we expected:
Not much sleep at night.
So we take a nap whenever we can.
But he's a "quiet" child who seems
to be at ease almost all the time
so we are happy  :)

I've taken leave from my job -as has
his mother- so we're doing okay and
we have "all the time in the world" to
enjoy the beauty of a baby.

I would like to present Andre' Snellings Jr., AKA Baby Deuce, to the board.  Born November 30, weighs in at 8-0 pounds and 20.5 inches long, and yesterday he sat with me to "watch" his first game as the Cs came back on the Pacers (though "watch" for him involved a lot of closed eyes and snoring,  ;) )

Had a baby girl last Saturday. Our 2nd child. 9lbs, 5 oz., happy and healthy.

She has been trying to breastfeed on me, though.
Congrats! TP. I hope she's wearing green. It's never too early to start 8)

I was going to suggest Keon. Then I realized that I was mistaking him with Jerome Moiso, another tall, skinny, lefty, and the joke was ruined.

Wow pretty neat thread...pretty much had a huge smile on my face while reading all the posts.

I just quickly want to congratulate all of you who became parents, and all those baby picts were very very cute !!

Anyways am only 20 and at least for next 5-6 years I have no plans of being a mom, but I will say that when my eldest nephew was born, I have pretty much treated him like my own son (we used to live in a joint family so I have spent a lot of time taking care of him). I remember during the 08 playoffs...I used to make him (yes I would have to force him, because no one else was willing to watch games with me since I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut during a game) sit next to me and would tell him to clap and cheer everytime the guys in green/white would score. Those were good times.

Now both my nephews (ages 5 and 2) really enjoy playing basketball, and hopefully both will join their school's bball team ince they are older.

Being a father is one of the greatest joys in life! Congrats to all of and make sure you take the time to enjoy and love your kids!

Like I said before we will have four under four, however, our oldest passed away from childhood cancer at the age of 3 or else we would have had five under five! This put a lot of things in perspective for me but it certainly taught me to cherish and love my kids, my wife, and my friends even more!

Congrats again and God bless you!

A few hours before tip-off vs. the Lakers thursday, my beautiful wife gave birth to our first child, Avett. They're both getting some much-needed sleep right now after another long night of feeding.

Our newest Celtic fan was born weighing Russell-Rondo and Don Nelson & 1/2 inches long.... ;D He's everything we both hoped he'd be and we love him so much..., though I'll admit it all feels surreal at times.

And of course two folks have already gotten us these:

I can't wait to watch our first game together (he slept through the CHI win), celebrate our first championship together, and see our first game live together ..... among other lesser milestones like walking, talking and all that boring stuff  ;)

PS. If anyone in Lucky's 20-team fantasy leagues has sent me an offer, this is why I've not gotten back to you ;)

Introducing Reagan Amylynn, born March 3.  Her birthday is 3/3, or as I like to think of it, 33.

Baby's first Christmas is great fun.  With all the ooohs and ahhhhhs over lights and sometimes even the tearful shock on the first encounter with Santa.

I was never a picture taker, so my advice...take lots and lots of pictures!  And enjoy every minute!

Our second child (a beautiful baby girl) was born last night. Her older brother is already learning how to dish out assists to his parents.

(bad pun? come one, what else was I going to go with on a basketball fan blog.....??)
