  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Major change in the Al Horford situation:
Per source close to Horford, his side is no longer discussing a new 3-year deal to stay with the Celtics. He is expected to sign a 4-year free agent contract elsewhere...
Story to come.

Pretty much what I was expecting.

I don't see Al taking a hometown discount without this team being in serious contention. Extending him is risky business for a team that's out of contention. His value is to a contender not a young building team

Ugh, we should’ve just never traded for Kyrie. Literally most of this probably doesn’t happen if not for that lol

Shams is reporting it now as well

The Boston Celtics are preparing for strong scenario that All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Al Horford will leave as free agents, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

They probably can't agree on money. Maybe Al's looking for 3 yrs 75m. Maybe Danny told Al that they're going all in on youth and won't be looking to contend for the next couple of years.

True.

And it's good for both sides.

Horford doesn't really have to be a babysitter to Brown and Tatum.

Problem is Boston has no money nor any interest to replace him.

What is Danny doing?

If Al signs elsewhere. As does Terry as expected. And we renounce Morris we have a max FA slot.

To use on who? That’s a different question.

DAR? Not saying I’d want to give him a max but he does fit the Jay’s timeline.

I want Julius Randle, not as a max, but at around $15/18 million for 3 years.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Well, if that's the case, then as might as well renounce him, Morris, Irving, Rozier and all our free agents and free up enough money to offer a max contract to someone (or split the money in half and offer half and half to two different free agents.)

D-Angelo Russell!

Wouldn’t be a fan of this move but I’d understand it, since he fits the Jay’s timeline. I just don’t think DAR is worth a max contract.

Yes I'm hoping for him too and now it's looking possible.

Anyone know what the Celtics cap situation looks like of both Kyrie and Horford walk?

Relax guys...we still have Gordon Hayward...the most overrated and overpaid player in the NBA as well as 3 meaningless draft picks.

35 wins here we come!

Could this just be a tactic to try and get Boston to give him that 4th year?

Chris Forsberg on Early Edition was speculating about that just now.

This is exactly what it sounds like to me. Not sure how you go from likely signing a three year deal this morning to this now. Very suspiciously sounding like a negotiating tactic for either a higher salary or a fourth year.

It was really that whole chain of events that was triggered off by Gordon's injury, them making the ECF without him and Kyrie, then Gordon coming back and making the young guys sulk for a months, and Kyrie dealing with it all terribly and Brad and Danny doing nothing. It's really a case study in mismanagement, driven by looking too far into the future (i.e. keep all the assets for a run at AD) at the expense of the present (i.e. the season's imploding let's do something about it before it's too late).

I don't regret trading for Kyrie though...we weren't going anywhere with IT and his injury anyway. But obviously Kyrie's lack of leadership was a factor in things.

Okay, now we have a serious problem with Jaylen & Tatum in their combined lack of ball-handling and passing ability on the wings. Horford did so much to alleviate the pressure off of them.

Without Horford around, Jaylen and Tatum are going to become more exposed and struggle more offensively ... adversely effecting everyone else offensively on the team in the process.
