Talk about a "Dream Team"!! (I'm drooling at the thought). The rotation combinations would be nearly endless, and could be specifically tailored for whoever the opponent was. I wouldn't confine it to only five permanent starters and five bench players, I'd make sure everyone's ego was in check, (well, good luck with Larry, lol, he'd probably have to always start), and then adjust the line-up each night for whoever the opponent match-ups were. Sweet thought ... I'd love to see that team in action!

The real question is, would we beat the 2011 + 1985 Lakers?  Or 2011 + 1996 Bulls?  2011 + 2006 (or 1997) Heat?  2011 + 1995 Magic?

I would take us in any of those matchups.  All of those teams would be fun to watch, though.

You should go old school on the 2nd Bulls team. They weren't as good, but for sheer entertainment value you'd get Reggie Theus, the Solid Gold Dancer. Not to mention the emotional turmoil you'd see of you ever put MJ out there with Rodman, Tripucka and Orlando Woolridge.

Can you imagine? What a great scenario! If only we could manipulate time thus ... what amazing match-ups and games those would be! Wow.

Rondo, Ray, Bird, Garnett, Parish.

Pierce, McHale come in as sixth MEN.

Ainge = Eddie House type role.
DJ= Backup PG

Perk+Walton+Shaq would be similar to whats happening now. Whoever's healthy get's to play, if your hurt just rest it up.

McHale 15 Parish 28 Shaq 5
KG 30 McHale 18
Bird 35 Pierce 13
Pierce 18 Ray 30
Rondo 35 Ainge 13

That's probably how you'd get the most out of everybody.

My other 2 guys are Perk and DJ and I'd probably keep Delonte and Harangody on the roster for kicks.

Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Rotation with projected minutes

PG - Rondo 30, Johnson 18
SG - Pierce 20, Allen 22, Ainge 6
SF - Bird 35, Pierce 13
PF - McHale 30, Garnett 18
C - Garnett 12, Parish 25, Walton 11

Total Minutes
Bird 35
Pierce 33
Rondo, Garnett, McHale - 30
Parish 25
Allen 22
Johnson 18
Walton 11
Ainge 6
Perkins, Davis - dress but mop up

Shaq, Robinson, Daniels - Suits

This is pretty much exactly what I'd do.  I wouldn't even consider playing Perkins, and Davis shouldn't even be in this discussion.. I'd rather see Bird or anyone at PF instead of Davis.

Ok, first, with the players from these two squads the tile is not in question. I would start Bird, McHale, Rondo, Parrish and Ray. The 86 McHale is better then KG this year and there is no debate. McHale may have been the leagues MVP that year if it weren't for an injury that slowed him a while. He was unstoppable around the rim and the most sure two points in the game. His low post D was better then KG''s too and he was more then an equal rebounder then today's KG.

Off the bench I would have Walton over Shaq and Perk unless we are getting killed by an opposing low post scoring center and then I would have Perk in. I would have DJ in the fourth quarter as he was one of the best money players around. Ainge could be brought off the bench when we needed a 3 as could Wedman. The great thing about this squad would be it's diversity with Bird playing more of a point forward and McHale being a center or even a small forward. McHale could shoot well enough from small forward area and he definitley could guard them too.

In case you are wondering which team is better between this year's and the 86 squad just ask Larry.

I wonder how much 80's style hand checking would hurt Rondo's game.

You should be wondering how nasty his defense would be.

I'd go

Parish
KG
Bird
Allen
Rondo

Shaq, Walton and Perk rotates at C depending on matchup and availability

Mchale,Pierce,DJ,Ainge- your bench has shooting, low post scoring, defense and playmaking. delonte and BBD for insurance, with bradley as your 15th man project

Also KG and Perk would love to play with the old rules.

Rondo isn't all that strong for a PG, his speed and quick hands are what makes his defense.

  • What a Pub Should Be
PG:  Rondo/DJ
SG:  Allen/Ainge
SF:  Bird/Pierce
PF:  McHale/KG
C:   Shaq/Parish/Perk/Walton

I just want to see the utter ridiculousness of a Bird/McHale/Shaq frontcourt.  I don't care if its the 2010-11 Shaq.  It'd still be a sick sight.

The big man rotation this team would have is unstoppable.
