Title: Popularity of Celtics Blog Forum?
Post by: celticsclay on July 15, 2015, 05:34:02 PM
I have noticed this week that a lot of the regular multi-time daily posters (lrbrd, Dos, Eddie, Eja) haven't been around at all. Did people disappear or is there a new celtics board somewhere?

It's slow season.

Maybe but the guys I mentioned usually post like 20 times a day and it has been slow season for a while. I wouldn't think anything of it if one guy stopped posted, but that is probably 4 of the 10 most active people on the site.

You could kinda say that.

Well this is a response shrouded in mystery. I think I understand what you are saying. You can definitely tell the difference on the forum when the most active people are not posting at all.

My guess is the slow season. Now if there is a big trade, the forums will crash with all the traffic. It was nuts on draft night.

Donugus kind of already said it's not just because of "slow season."

I did not interpret his meaning that way.

They all duked it out in that locked thread about Embiid. It got pretty personal. They probably are on suspended leaves of absence for the time being (hence the "holidays of sorts" comment).

I looked back and realized that was the last thing they all posted. There were a lot of people in that thread. It is funny how big a difference it makes on the boards. In addition to being prolific posters, they also are very passionate.

I wasn't going to make any further posts here, but I'll break that vow just this once to   opine that I wouldn't be surprised if this forum never regains its vigor.

Can't speak for anyone else but I got a temporary pounding with the ban hammer, which was not exactly undeserved.

If you let the inmates run the asylum, places like this inevitably degenerate and fade away.

Lol. Good one.

I was pretty surprised by that infamous Saturday afternoon.

Here's to procreating in order to share the story, though.

I agree -- it will.  This forum has always been well-moderated -- which by definition means that sometimes they'll lean heavy (that's how moderating/balancing works).  I have great respect for how the moderators have operated through the years -- doesn't mean I always agree, but definitely always appreciate the effort they put into make this blog consistently a great source of information and entertainment.

Haha I liked that Embiid thread.

On a different note, I thought this thread was going to elaborate on the most popular team blogs in the NBA. If have to imagine CB is at or near the top. Are there any sort of recent rankings in this?

It's pretty hard to find a comparable fan community, at least when it comes to the NBA.

There has been a bit of negativity on here lately regarding our players, mostly the draft and FA additions. Seemed to loosen up a bit after the start of summer league. The current James Young hate discourages me from posting from time to time.

Ah no worries. You should see how Celtics fans treated Hank Finkle.  After Russell retired.
James Young is not good enough yet to foster real negativity.  Lol.

And those other jabronies got traded to another blog by Roy Hobbes and Danny Ainge for 2nd Round Draft Picks....

It is a tough part of the season and we didn't land any sexy names in the draft or free agents. So we were probably dreaming of the chances of Love or Alrdige or someone else so it was easy to be disappointed. I am starting to get excited again myself personally! I feel like the Deandre jordan move and Williams move were big positives for the celtics.

How many posts would it take to identify them? Maybe 1-2, based on writing styles/phrases and opinions

I personally haven't found another forum (celtics or not) that is anywhere near the quality of of celtics blog for any other team / sport I follow.  The admin / mods here do a fantastic job.  I hope if anyone got a recent timeout that they are back soon.  People are going to disagree, hopefully everyone can still contribute.  This is one of my top 10 go to sites on the web.

In all honesty, I  am  on CelticsBlog about 4-5 times a day in spurts of 20 minutes. I am usually reading peoples opinions more then writing to gauge if some of the veteran posters share similar ideas and opinions as me.

I don't think you'll find many blogs that have posters with in-depth knowledge of how the salary cap really works. Also, when one is corrected here, he shows appreciation and doesn't start issues or troll the forums

I HAD NO CLUE BOUT : Bird Rights, Mid-Level Exceptions, Trade Exceptions, Stretch provisions if it wasn't for some of these daily posters (too many to name).

I honestly can say I've jumped from being a main stream NBA fan  to knowing how the system works BUT the BIGGEST thing I learned in this forum is how to have Celtics Pride. And I THANK ALL posters old and new for that. and to top it off, im only 24 and from NYC. NO CELTICS FANS OVER HERE! YOU GUYS ARE LITERALLY LIKE A SECOND FAMILY ON MY OFF TIME!!!

Yeah I did a "research project" when I was sick one day of just going out of my way to find other sites that are anywhere near as good as this and came up empty handed.  The one thing that really was crazy was that almost none of them had forums like this, they were just comment sections after articles.  There are a couple other decent ones (Posting and Toasting - Knicks is great), but nothing even comes close.  Even the subReddits for different teams are all basically ghost towns, although r/NBA is ok.  Still, I love this forum, it's really really really well done.

same, i probably don't even like the celtics more than the red sox or patriots, but i don't follow forums for those teams. I just got addicted here. Its also nice that is fan friendly enough that I can pull it up for work.

I can't believe I used the phrase "suspended leave of absence" in my first post in this thread  ::)

But yeah, Celticsblog is far and away the best sports forum I've ever seen, and it's the only one I use. I was a huge lurker here for a few years, and I never even intended to create an account, as sports forums are usually crazy and unintelligible. But eventually I knew I needed to be a part of the banter about my favorite team. This place really does suck you in. It's reached a point where I'll read an alert on my phone and think, "Oh gosh, I bet Larbrd/BeatLA/Dos/RoyH/etc. is really happy/sad/having a field day/angry/etc. right now."
