The first concert I went to was Kansas with Loverboy warming up. Both were excellent as Kansas was still young, around 1980, and Loverboy was just getting started. I still remember Steve Walsh, lead singer for Kansas, doing a handstand on the keyboard while kicking his feet to the beat of Carry on Wayward Son!
BEST CONCERT: This would have to be the Monsters of Rock Tour in 88 at Arrowhead Stadium in K.C. The main bands were Van Halen, The Scorpions, and Metallica. The Scorpions really stole the show from Van Halen. It was a miserably hot day in Arrowhead.
Saw RUSH in Hollywood Florida circa 1985 and loved it!
Best individual show would have to go to a guy named Jason D. Williams at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis circa 1988. This guy was suppose to be Jerry Lee Lewis illegitimate son and he looked a lot like him too. Anyway, it was a small venue and this guy just brought the house down.
Close 2nd place on the best individual performance: Kenny Wayne Shephard in St. Louis downtown with the Arch about 1000 feet behind the outdoor stage. The guy can play the guitar!
Motley Crew at the Sprint Center in K.C. was great too as was Kansas at the Buffalo Run Casino on a very still summer night. Those guys are just so talented and if you ever go to an outdoor concert try to go on a night when there is not much wind. This night was beautiful and not a lot of people were there but Kansas didn't let that slow them down.
