FLC -- You kind of messed up Tatum's first name in the players to watch section.Oh my! I did! I'm out of practice :) Fixed now and a TP to you for catching that!!
Wonder if Kadeem Allen will be guarding Markelle Fultz. One can only hope. Or possibly Jaylen
Does anyone know if they'll be doing a NBA League Pass for Summer League again this year? I haven't been able to find anything about it yet.
Does anyone know if they'll be doing a NBA League Pass for Summer League again this year? I haven't been able to find anything about it yet.
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure all of the games are televised on one of ESPN's channels or NBA TV.

Boo. We just moved and no longer have NBATV with my cable/internet package, and I'm too cheap to pay $15+ a month just for NBATV (they only offer it in the sports package).
20th!

I don't just want to see our guys look good, I want to see Fultz miss all his shots and turn the ball over on every possession.Yup, and get schooled by Tatum or Brown.
There will be no leash for Brown in SL and I can;t wait to see what this guy can do unleashed!
SemiMe too, plus Tatum and Zizic who I think is playing.

All aboard the Zizic train tonight. Been waiting for his debut.
Is it weird I'm way more stoked to see Zizic than Tatum??no. We know what we're getting with Tatum. Zizic is a bit of a mystery
hahaha Fultz is going to be special in the NBA.Ha, It's SL
hahaha Fultz is going to be special in the NBA.It's SL
Jaylen is too good for the Summer League.
Zizic kept his feet on the floor and forced a bad bunny shot.
I don't just want to see our guys look good, I want to see Fultz miss all his shots and turn the ball over on every possession.Yup, and get schooled by Tatum or Brown.
Woooooo! Hate to say it, Smart, but my boy Brown has really taken over as my favorite overall Celtic.
Man, Zizic is big and long. Not used to that lol
Gotta make the three consistently Tatum
Man, Zizic is big and long. Not used to that lol
he looks slow =T
Man, Zizic is big and long. Not used to that lol
he looks slow =T
Yeah he looks slow to you because you are not used to seeing a big man in Green.
tatums jumper needs a lot of work, looks very shaky
wow Danny has his game face on
Ainge looked sweaty , red, and unhappy with his phone in his hand
Wonder what that bodes for the Hayward news lol
There are a lot of guys to be excited about out there!
Abdel Nader looks like Summer League is too easy for him as well. That year of pro experience really does make a difference it seems. Both he and Jaylen look about a half step quicker than everyone else.
Man, Zizic is big and long. Not used to that lol
tatums jumper needs a lot of work, looks very shaky
his jumper is fine, lets not worry about it after 1/4 summer league game.

Too bad they'll rot on the bench
Gotta make the three consistently Tatum
Yes, but he seems to be able to get it off easily.

Lol he was sweating bullets like he just ran suicidesAinge looked sweaty , red, and unhappy with his phone in his hand

dude is probably as nervous as the rest of us, checking his phone every 5 seconds. This offseason is hanging in the balance..
Zizic is a plodder but if he can rebound and make it difficult around the basket I'm fine with it.
Fultz is smooth man. So many young talented players in this game.
Brown has filled out ......other than Semi ....rest look like kids
Demetrius Jackson is garbage...
where is Theis?
Jaylen is way too good for Summer League. Way too good.
Hoping the Lakers pick turns out to be a good player because Fultz is going to be pretty [dang] good
Tatum struggling a bit. But so did Brown last summer
Zizic better start getting his ass back on defenseHe is slow and plodding, this will be his weakness in the NBA.
Can't watch the game, only bos score.
Brown looks like he is dominating
Tps for folks who can fill me in on the action, and thanks.
wow, awesome D by OjeleyeGood to,hear . I have hopes for him this season. ;D
Fultz is superstar. You can just tell.Easy now. He has hit some shots and is smooth as advertised. A superstar? Remains to be seen.
I'm still sick over this
Fultz is superstar. You can just tell.
I'm still sick over this
lord Brown
got Kobe type game

Positives: Jaylen, Zizic and Nader. Can't watch the game, only bos score.
Brown looks like he is dominating
Tps for folks who can fill me in on the action, and thanks.
Jaylen is very clearly way too good for Summer League. He's comfortably shooting and hitting the three, a terror in transition.
Fultz is superstar. You can just tell.
I'm still sick over this
I think Semi can defend 1-4.How s his defense? That was the knock on him in league.
Nadar looks like a 6'8 PG out there. So smooth and high IQ
Can't watch the game, only bos score.Brown looks sensational in almost every regard. Shooting, handling, taking it to the hoop. Zizic is very physical. Tatum looks shaky and nervous. Nader looks very good, like the game has slowed down for him.

Just when I finally got over the trade lol
Tatum has to bulk up. Won't be much of an issue early on for Fultz.
Jazz meeting with Hayward was 3.5 hours...seems kind of short
Jackson just got killed
Tatum needs to add 20 more pounds fast

why is Blakely getting airtime. He's as outside as a celtics insider can get
Jackson just got killed
Tatum needs to add 20 more pounds fast
C's must have gotten stuffed at least 5 times at the rim so far.To be honest, celtics have some excellent help defense.
Demetrius Jackson's no good, very bad, horrible day.
Well we can conclude that fultz>Taytum and taytum is def not ever playing PF. He is getting straight bullied.
Sherrod is so annoying... god.
Well we can conclude that fultz>Taytum and taytum is def not ever playing PF. He is getting straight bullied.Ha, ha, ha.. I was warned about such posters. Less than one summer league game and dire predictions are emerging. Be patient and let wait a few YEARS before making any judgements. ;D
If we're depending on Zizic to be our low post star this year we're going to be sadly disappointed. He has no vertical and is slow footed. That may fly in Europe, but not here. Not even in summer league.
Predicting Hayward stays in Utah. Huh?Sherrod is so annoying... god.
Just one truism after another. Thanks Sherrod
Am I the only one who thinks Fultz's shot looks different?

And Zizic is so slllllow in the post and don't even have any moves.Looks like he may be a bit of a project. But after watching Olynk/Amir/Zeller get shoved around so much the past couple of seasons, his aggressiveness is refreshing

Now that looked smooth. Way to go Jayson! He is reminding me of James Worthy.
Tatum is a rich man's Crowder, Fultz looked like a 6'5" IT.

Its like everyone in the media just does not want Hayward in Boston.
Are these guys the Jazz announcers??
Its like everyone in the media just does not want Hayward in Boston.

Yes, yes they are.
For this season at least, a more nimble perk would be welcome. Beats zeller already. If we're depending on Zizic to be our low post star this year we're going to be sadly disappointed. He has no vertical and is slow footed. That may fly in Europe, but not here. Not even in summer league.
We just need him to rebound, screen, and pass.

I really think Jaylen can earn starters minutes next year.I'd be disappointed if he's not starting over Crowder
Ha, ha, ha...and a tp for you sir.Its like everyone in the media just does not want Hayward in Boston.

Yes, yes they are.
Well then...they suck

Am I the only one who thinks Fultz's shot looks different?
I had the same exact thought. Looks less smooth.
HI JASON!
Tatum! Love the explosiveness of Tatum & Jaylen in this game. So much better to watch than Big Baby Davis, Crowder, etc.
Jackson...man..he is not very good. I cannot see him making this roster with the guards ahead of him.
Am I the only one who thinks Fultz's shot looks different?
I had the same exact thought. Looks less smooth.
Looks like he's dipping it and bringing it out in front of him more. It's not near as smooth or fluid as it was in college. Extra movement on it.
TATUM is built strange his lower body just looks strange but [dang] he's a good player...hes already develop on offense.
Sherrod is so annoying... god.
Deion Waters signing with the Knicks...Heat might lose him and still not get GHOh good, he might have helped the Lakers.

Not sure why he, of all people, would radically change his form before playing a single NBA game.
Deion Waters signing with the Knicks...Heat might lose him and still not get GHGood, better them than the lakers. And the knicks still suck.
Tatum is gonna be a good one.....im hoping for Tayshaun Prince ...type game ....smart and smooth

He has tremendous pressure on him now, and I don't think he's up for the task. He will be a good scorer in this league, that's about it.Am I the only one who thinks Fultz's shot looks different?

Could have played a part in his lackluster pre-draft workouts. Whatever the case, something has changed with his shot.
I was a bit underwhelmed by him. I thought he'd be a bit more dominant, but I'll hold off on my judgment about him until I see him play a bit more. I still do think his mentality might be an issue with him not being fully committed and aggressive all of the time.

Fake account.

that is actually a pretty decent comparison
i like Zizic better than Zeller already .....he is not scared of contact .
Was it just me or did Brown lose his focus towards the end of the half?
After that stretch of awesome plays in the 2nd it seemed like he became self-aware of how well he was playing and started overthinking/forcing things instead of breaking down the defense the way he had been. The charge and the turnover with the pass to the corner are 2 examples.
He still has a ways to go mentally, but we're seeing flashes of the player he could become.

Tatum will be a good player..but Fultz has a huge upside to stardom
Holy ****. Brown has 22 points and 8 rebounds?? :o
Big and strong rebounder, some nice low post moves, but slow, deliberate and can't run back on defense. No outside shot.C's have the next Steven Adams. How so? I can't watch so,please give details. Thanks.
Tatum will be a good player..but Fultz has a huge upside to stardom
I'd actually argue the opposite. Fultz is supremely skilled, but I haven't been wowed by his athleticism. To me, that communicates a limited ceiling. I could see a Tyreke Evans situation this season, where he puts up huge numbers on his way to ROY but never does much better.

Wasn't Prince a defensive-first forward who could hit open shots and Tatum touted as a really gifted offensive player with defensive question marks? I don't get the comparison, tbh.
So far Danny's summer is looking rough...passing on Fultz, not getting George...might not get Hayward...
I sure hope it all works out
Brown looks tired. Elevation plus being out of shape in the summer.
I was so excited for Tatum over Fultz. Danny and I are bad scouts. Sorry guys!
So far Danny's summer is looking rough...passing on Fultz, not getting George...might not get Hayward...It's one game...and a summer league game to boot. You judge this draft 3 years from now, not a week after the draft.

Let's be honest guys. It's clear as day Fultz has superstar potential.
I don't know what happened in the workout, but is it possible he dogged it a little so he could go to either LA or PHI? Both are better situations for a rookie PG then Boston. I know he said all the right things in the media but after the Josh Jackson chicanery I wouldn't be shocked.

You've gotta be joking right?
Brown has done heaps of work on adding more muscle to his frame this offseason. There are very few guys in better shape.

It's the summer league his shots are gonna get blocked and he's gonna get **** down a lot because he's a bit too slow on decisions

It is a summer league game.
Nader getting that really bad charge called against him...
I can't see the game, how's Tatum playing?Still tight. Missed a FT, did have a good steal but called for a foul.
Nader getting that really bad charge called against him...
Not his finest moment
I knew we were going to have a problem. We have no PGs here.

He blows hot and cold, great play followed by a bonehead one. He's 24. I had high hopes that are fading.Nader getting that really bad charge called against him...

This is sad. No defense and movement. Ugly.
I knew we were going to have a problem. We have no PGs here.
Jackson has been atrocious.
What about Fultz looks so good?
I'm not watching the game so I can't see how he's playing, but he's not looking any better then Tatum to me based on box score alone:
Fultz:
11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 turnovers, 5/10 FG, -7
Tatum:
9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 4/10 FG, -5
Who cares? It's summer league.I knew we were going to have a problem. We have no PGs here.
Jackson has been atrocious.
Seems year after year we have crappy PGs in summer league
Does Tatum really have four steals?
Fultz' reads, ball handing and defensive instincts are elite

Its clear he needs to work in the gym after a tough year in europe and well lots of adjustment too ^^ its ok, he will slowly get it
Fultz' reads, ball handing and defensive instincts are elite
Defensive instincts? He had that one nice block, but he looks as bad as advertised defensively. Pretty sure Brown made him look silly in the first half.
He has defensive potential with his length, but he's pretty bad as it is now.

But the things he doesn't need to learn: being huge, playing hard, getting boards, catching the ball. Finally nice to have a guy like that.

How does Ojeleye look so far?
Wow, that was a PRO move by Tatum there. He has SCORER written all over him! What did he do?
Fultz is a man amongst boys.
Anybody watching the game? I can't quite get a read on whether or not David Locke likes Fultz ::)
Fultz is a man amongst boys.
Jaylen is the Man among boys!!!
Tatum is money!
did yall see that move by Tatum. He is reminding me of a young Paul Pierce but is smoother like James Worthy.
If Boston had a point guard tonight...they would be cruising
Hayward's gonna look good coming off the bench to relieve Jaylen/Tatum 8)
Brown is balling don't get me wrong. But dang how many turnovers does he have?
Tatum looks great. Did mark spears say Hayward to Boston?
The Celtics have quit running any form of offense.
Anyone catch Spears talking like he thought Hayward was coming here?

HAHAHAHAHA Tatum has not disappointed me. He is everything I thought he would be and then some.

Demetrius Jackson is really bad.
Demetrius Jackson is really bad.
Demetrius Jackson is really bad.
Jackson is terrible.
What a great confidence booster for Tatum! He's got plenty of confidence.
I'm embarrassed for Jackson. He should quit sports all together.
Seriously...Tatum has been open on the pick and pop and Jackson goes to the rim. No awareness
HA HA FULTZ BLOWS IT AT THE END.
I believe the word you are looking for is ... sucky. If Boston had a point guard tonight...they would be cruising
this is true
Kadeem Allen and JAckson are both .... not sure what they are
My stream quit at the end. How did they end up losing?Fultz beat his man baseline and tried to come to the opposite side for the reverse and JB got a piece of the ball.
Tatum=clutch
Fultz=choker
SL means nothing, but that game winning jumper was Paul Pierce reincarnated.
And Paul pierce is still alive so that's some crazy ****.

Brown & Tatum go for 50/20 in the win, with the game winning jumper and blocked shot.
Fultz goes for 17 points (6-16), 2 boards, 1 assist, 4 turnovers and gets rejected by Brown to lose the game, in a game where our PG was the worst player on the court.
Somehow this thread is full of "Fultz is a superstar" posts. Ya'll must be fun at parties.

He's a great scorer, real smooth. Excellent moves, got the full arsenal on offense, but not a winner.Brown & Tatum go for 50/20 in the win, with the game winning jumper and blocked shot.If you can't see the kid is brilliant, you're blind.
Couldn't agree more. Markelles already used to losing!SL means nothing, but that game winning jumper was Paul Pierce reincarnated.
And Paul pierce is still alive so that's some crazy ****.
Meaningless yes but they want to win and having a dude who hits winners is always fun.
Tho another loss for Markelle Fultz. Get used to them.

If you think that's the takeaway from this game, like I said, you must be fun at parties.
We all know Fultz is talented, but he was the 3rd best player in a summer league game. Nobody can "see" how great he is based on that. Wow, what a Jordan-esque 6 for 16.
THAT'S why we drafted him! Someone who can create their own shot and get a bucket when we need it....19 yrs old!
What I took from the C's this game.
Rozier's spot is pretty secure. Jackson and Allen were bad.
Nader can't hang with NBA guards. He also probably won't make the roster if his shooting isn't lights out.
Zizic needs more conditioning. But he should be okay off the bench as the 5th big. His defense and offense needs a lot of work again no way near being a starter for an NBA team. C's may be trouble depth wise.
Tatum needs to watch all the reaching in. But flashed tons of good offense.
Brown shouldn't play any more games unless he simply wants to build chemistry with Tatum. He has nothing to prove.
Semi was active but was not given enough touches to form an opinion.
Bird looked like a guy just looking to shoot and nothing else.

Bird looked horrible
Danny messed up the 56th pick badly

now there should not be any questions if Tatum was the right choice or not

It's a summer league game.
But you saw what Danny sees in this kid. That stuff isn't teachable/coachable.

If Fultz has a better year than Tatum (and he likely will), we will be self-inundated with 'what a huge mistake' posts. I am ALREADY tired of them. Does no good. Deal is done.
We have Jayson Tatum and a future draft pick. I can't wait to know what that pick gets us -- whether it's a top 5 '18, part of a package that gets a star, or a lottery selection in '19. This is the focus -- who we have; not who we don't have.
7-11!!!!
First game impressions:
I get people hating on D Jackson's offense... His defense however is pretty solid. I can see him filling a Phil Pressey role where he's just out there to setup the half-court offense and play D.
Semi physically looks like a power forward (if you haven't seen him on the court you'll get what this means when you do) he's just built a lot bigger than everyone else around him. Some very nice things from him including one made 3 pointer from WAY back. I hope they don't send him to Maine.
It looks like Nader spent an entire season working on all the wrong things in the D-League. He looked like a potential 3-D NBA wing last year in summer league. Now he's looking for his offense every time he touches the ball but doesn't have the skill to score reliably in isolation against bigger faster more determined athletes... He looks like he's going to go down swinging however... He DOES play the same speed all game and had some solid takes and timely rebounds.
Kadeem Allen looks like an NBA player to me. Actually... he looks like 1 player specifically. Marcus Smart.
Tatum - Wow... patient, deliberate, fearless a lot better on D than advertised. Also, if you haven't heard, he took over the game in the 4th quarter and capped it off by hitting a shot to take the lead over 2 players with 5 seconds left. If he were white I bet he'd have drawn a lot more comparisons to a young Dirk before the draft...
Fultz was absolutely electric. I can't take anything away from him except his atrocious free throw shooting.
Jaylen Brown... Great progress, if his offense doesn't click this year in the NBA it will next year I think. I wouldn't be surprised to see him dominate Summer league. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him plagued by silly young player mistakes (he made a couple over-ambitious drives that turned into turnovers already).
Zizic... Ran out of steam after the first half (about ten minutes of playing) and staggered around the court for the second half. I think people imagining the next Jokic or Nurkic are going to be sorely disappointed. Those hoping for a Zaza Pachulia with less motor might be getting exactly what they're looking for.
THAT'S why we drafted him! Someone who can create their own shot and get a bucket when we need it....19 yrs old!
This is why I don't get all the hate on Tatum.
People say that defense wins games, but that's not entirely true. Defense keeps you in games - clutch scorers win games.
* Ray Allen's dagger three lifting Miami over San Antonio for the title
* Durant's pull up jumper eliminating Lebron and the Cavs
* Countless Lakers and Celtics games won at the hands of Paul Pierce / Kobe Bryant daggers
The general consensus out there is that ISO ball is bad because basketball is a team game, yadda yadda yadda. But for a pure team offense to work, you have to rely on every day guys to hit huge clutch shots - and not a lot of guys have that in them.
More often then not, it's great ISO scorers who end up winning you games - especially in the playoffs.
For similar reasons, I hate the fact that people are so obsessed with three point shots and are so against the midrange game.
Everybody raves about how midrange jumpers are the worst shot in the game, etc. But how many games have the Bulls, Celtics, Mavs, Lakers, Cavs and Heat won off midrange jumpers from guy like Paul Pierce, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzski, Lebron James and Dwyane Wade?
When you're in a tied game or 1 point game and everything's on the line, then two points makes the difference between winning or going home. And in that scenario I'd put my money on a midrange jumper over a three any day of the week.

Yep. Elite O beats Elite D.
Been trying to find this for a while. Thanks to the dude on reddit.
Danny Ainge in 2015:
"We often talk about transcendent players and stars, but I think the hardest skill to find in our league is guys that can score in the fourth quarter, the last six minutes of the game type of scorers. Usually the offensive patterns don't score baskets at that time, usually it's the individuals and the talent and I think that's always a priority, regardless of need by position. But those kinds of players are hard to find and I think that Isaiah is our best at that right now, so it'd be nice to have one or two more of those before the season starts next year, and ideally at other positions
Try ESPN3 for the NBATV games.Does anyone know if they'll be doing a NBA League Pass for Summer League again this year? I haven't been able to find anything about it yet.
I don't think so. I'm pretty sure all of the games are televised on one of ESPN's channels or NBA TV.

Zizic was a man among boys in the 1st 10 minutes, as you said. However, he clearly is slow, deliberate and lacks conditioning. That said, he should be able to make the roster, but certainly won't be a starter on this team as some have projected. Ainge needs to go get a starting center and I sincerely hope he makes a move now.

I've been a Noel fan for a while, but it seems Ainge is not. He could have gotten him earlier given how little Dallas gave up to get him. Ainge/Stevens want a big man who can shoot from the outside and hit free throws. They want no weak positions on the offensive end.First game impressions:

Call me crazy, but I'm still pretty OK about us going after Nerlens Noel - especially if Hayward goes to Utah / Miami.
By missing out on George and Butler we've been kind of forced to lean more away from the "win now" mentality and more in the direction of the "keep developing/building" mentality. We will still be a very good team and should win a lot of games, but we have no hope of beating Golden State and little hope of beating Cleveland (even if we do add Hayward).
As such, I'm ok with us continuing on as a top 2-4 team in the East, while focusing more of our attention on building our core so we can compete for a title 2-3 years from now.
Noel isn't a guy who likely puts us over the edge right now, but as a 23 year old guy with truly elite physicals (7'0" height, 7'4" wingspan, 9'2" standing reach, extremely athletic) who can already rebound and defend at a very high level, I would be ok with overpaying a little on the hope he can flourish in Boston.
I feel like a youth group of Rozier, Smart, Brown, Tatum, Noel would fit together perfectly with a very nice balance between scoring, rebounding defense and ball handling.
Tatum is a rich man's Crowder, Fultz looked like a 6'5" IT.
Yes, Tatum's lefty finish and dirk fade reminded me of Jae, too.
Jackson...man..he is not very good. I cannot see him making this roster with the guards ahead of him.
I watched him play a lot in Maine and I can confirm that he sucks. He just doesn't stand out and isn't great at any one thing, even at the D-league level.
Nader has potential though, he's long, fairly athletic, and very well-rounded.
I've been a Noel fan for a while, but it seems Ainge is not. He could have gotten him earlier given how little Dallas gave up to get him. Ainge/Stevens want a big man who can shoot from the outside and hit free throws. They want no weak positions on the offensive end.First game impressions:

Jackson and Nader should have been better. Both have had a full year in D-league so their performances, while ok, was disappointing given where they are at. I thought Nader especially should have been MUCH better. He has length, can go with his left hand and is a decent shooter, but he also still makes mistakes that will be unacceptable at the NBA level, like turnovers.

Like Vox_Populi said, we didn't see enough of Semi to form an opinion, but he has range.
Brown - Did what he needed to do, which was simply to be the best player on the floor.
Tatum - Seems a bit 'tight' at times, maybe 1st game jitters, but clearly settled down. Has some decent defensive plays. I am so glad he played better than Fultz in the 4th quarter. That will do wonder for his confidence.
Fultz - A truly dynamic scorer with a great feel for the game. Not bad on defense either. Poor FT shooting, as advertised. Questionable shot selection at times, seemed to be trying too hard. I predict he will be ROY, but it's not clear what his long-term upside his. Let's say, much better than Jamal Crawford.
