I hope they agree to trade him. He deserves to be on a team with a chance to win. Hopefully they can work out. A deal with Houston for example. He’d be a good fit there.

Agree.

Horford is a good fit for Houston.

In fact, Houston was close to signing with Houston in 2016.
It was down to Boston or Houston and Horford chose Boston.

Houston was going to sign with Houston? They certainly deserve each other

My bad.

Horford was close to signing with Houston back in 2016.

There were a few teams. OKC, Houston, Atlanta and I think Washington.

But Atlanta became a no-go after they signed Dwight Howard. If I recall, Horford didn't want to play with him.

To all those who want to keep Horford....that makes no sense to me. He is about to turn 33, a full decade older then the guys we are building around. Hes at an age were every season you expect him to get about 5-10% worse. He isnt gonna be part of the next celtics championship, in my opinion you have to try and use him to gain assets that fit the timeline better. That could be a opt in and trade, a sign and trade, whatever. Capela makes a lot of sense.

In any event is isnt completely up to us, he can opt out and choose were he goes. Plenty of teams can offer him max or near max money and probably would, but if he wants to go to a true competitor we should help facilitate that.
There would certainly be interest in Horford but no team is going to offer him Max or near Max.

the following is not an opinion, it is a fact. You are wrong. There are several teams who might, or would get close. What is LAC gets Kawhi but not a second guy? Give Horford the max. What if LAL strike out? Give Horford the max. Teams will pay him 30+ million easily, probably not for four years, but he will get paid if he wants.

Al Horford has 10+ years in the league, so his max starts at $38 million next year. There is a 0% chance that ANYONE offers him that kind of money. The most I could possibly see him getting is 2/$50 million (more years would mean less $/year)
I'm bitter.

It is an opinion and a poor one at that.  As BitterJim points outs Horford's Max is over 38M.  He's certainly not getting that and he's not getting 30M from anyone unless he opts into his final year with us.  Horford is a very good 33 year old role player.  3yr/60M is what I'd expect him to get if he doesn't opt in.

The thread title should read, "What is Al Horford going to do with us?" because this is all really his decision. I am not sure how close he was to Kyrie, but watching him walk in FA and missing out on AD probably has him questioning the future of this team.

It would be very much appreciated if he would let us trade him to the destination of his choosing. Luckily he doesn't seem like the type to be swayed by the glamour markets that all have cap space right now. Of course I would love him back, but he would have to be playing for the love of the city over winning a championship at this point...and that doesn't seem reasonable given the media and unappreciative fans in Boston.

what?? lol

when did he promise you anything

come on man

In regards to Horford, I think he waits and sees what the Celts do.  then ponders some more

Could be 50/50 he stays vs tags on somewhere else in hopes to win his first championship
