The Lakers are trading Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones to Wizards as part of the Anthony Davis deal with New Orleans, league sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me. Deal clears contracts and creates more cap space for free agency.

Anthony Davis is waiving his $4M trade kicker, league sources tell ESPN.

The Lakers will start free agency with $32M in salary cap space. The Lakers have the ability to sign a max player now.

Yup, I assume this means that they have someone lined up.

Lakers GM Rob Pelinka has found a way to complete the Anthony Davis trade on July 6 with max space to spend on a single free agent -- or divide the money among multiple players.

The Wizards had previous draft interest in Mo Wagner, who was a Lakers first-round pick out of Michigan in 2018. Wagner will get an opportunity with Washington.

Wondering how the Lakers build any kind of bench if they use this max slot on one player

Here is hoping they sign either Butler or Cousins and have it blow up.

They won't have much of one. Very shallow team if they get another max player, they'll likely be better next year than this year if that's the case.

Bet they try to get Russell and still have money left over

They'll probably fall into a serviceable bench by breaking up the cap space after they strike out on all the major FAs.

I don't think the Lakers would be wise to use it all on one player. Even the top heavy Heats teams had a few players like Mike Miller, Haslem, Ray Allen, Battier on non minimum contracts. I don't think you can win with 9 min players. On top of that, Lebron is going to be 35, Davis has a history of nagging injuries and Butler (or Irving) would both have injury concerns.

Note If the Rockets do also end up losing all of capela, gordon and tucker for Butler I would have the same concern.

Simply amazing.

There is always a team willing to help out the Lakers for no apparent reason, and yet still keep Kuzma.

Should be interesting to see how they fill out roster with only the Room Exception and vet min contracts to hand out and just 4 players under contract (assuming they use all their space on one player).
