I think it was the TPE or trade for Brogdon.

I don't believe they are willing to spend the money required of them to use the TPE. It was one or the other.

So I am only hoping for good minimum contract end of bench guys at this point.

Use that TPE to get Al's replacement if you can.   But I agree we may not use it.

Agreed. Luckily, our biggest area of need (3rd-string traditional bigs) are a dime a dozen at the vet minimum.

I honestly wouldn't hold your breath for any big time wing or center, though. We're at the point where there is no playing time to go around, and I doubt many players who are rotation level will be willing to relegate themselves to an "in a pinch" player. Additionally, the C's are super close to the $3.75 per $1 luxury tax, meaning a $10 million addition would cost about $50 million. I'm not sure there's a 10th (if better than a Pritchard) or 11th man in the league I'd blame Wyc and Co. not wanting to pay an additional $50 million for.

I’d love another big and another wing who shoots 38+ and gives energy/toughness.  JRich sounds good to me. And/or Robin Lopez-ish.   Wouldn’t shake a stick at Luke Kennard.  Of course the aforementioned may all be unattainable. 

Would really want James Posey - tough, high energy team guy with clutch gene.

I'd like to add a decent backup wing and another mobile big man if possible.  can never have enough bodies on the roster that are capable of contributing

In the Brogdon trade we sent five(!) players and took only one back. We’re required to sign a few more to fill out the roster. I would expect vet min players.

I tend to think they won’t be using the TPE. Question for you capologists: Is there any way to preserve the TPE through creative maneuvers? Eg 3 team deal or anything?

It would be refreshing to see them spend like a Russian oligarch owning an EPL team but I can’t speak bad about ownership so far. They said they would spend and they have so far.

I would feel more comfortable with another solid veteran big man and a 3&D wing for the bench.

It’s early. Have to wait for the money to dry up with other teams and then players will be signing for the vet minimum, which is where the C’a budget is after the Brogdon trade.


I’m hoping the C’s can get one of the following centers: Thomas Bryant, Lamarcus Aldridge, Ibaka and one of the following SF: TJ Warren, Kent Bazemore, Kessler Edwards.

Himmelsbach said there's no longer any talk of the Celtics using the big TPE.

Brogdon was probably our big move. And a team that gets within 2 games of a title probably shouldn't be making a ton of moves.
