Weird for Atlanta. Both Trae and DeJounte are at their best with ball in hand. Both terrific playmakers. Curious to see how they try and get that to work.

Spurs clearly pushing for Wembenyama, who is a freak prospect. But Scoot Henderson, Whitehead and Nick Smith are all good prospects in their own right.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Felt like Gallo dropped off quite a bit last year. Age catching up to him. No longer as quick or as able to take his defender off the dribble. Doesn't get to the FT line like he used to. More vulnerable on D than he used to be.

Gallo of 2-3 years ago would've been great for this team. Not sure Gallo of today would contribute that much.

This. I hope we're showing early interest to help with a vet min offer

Very disappointing. We should have got him. Perfect for the TPE. Darn shame.

3 picks and a pick swap for which ESPN gave ATL a "C" grade because Murray can't take the Hawks up to contender status. It is a pretty stupid deal for Atlanta and it could easily turn into a disaster.

I don't think the Spurs (who got an "A" from ESPN) would do the same deal with us because our picks aren't likely to be as valuable. so there's no use crying over it.

It probably would have cost us another first. we also would have had to figure out how to move Smart or white to a third team because there's no way you can keep all 3 in the same backcourt.

Feels like a major overpay by the Hawks. They basically just went "all in" for a fringe all-star who can't shoot 3s.

I just don't see the Trae/Collins/Murray trio being good enough to win a title.

So do people hate the Derrick White deal more or the Dejounte Murray deal more.

Hate the white deal even more as those assets could have gone towards Murray or a better player. White himself is a negative asset right now. But who knows if Spurs feel the same way about Murray if White is still there.

Weird fit for Atlanta with Trae there but if it works, they be dangerous
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

The picks are

23 - Charlotte 1st
25 - Atlanta 1st
27 - Atlanta 1st

and swap rights in 26.

So the picks all could be solid picks, but could also all not be very good as the Hawks are a pretty young team.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

It’s not like the Hawks were oozing with talent. The cost was steep but this made their team better. Trae definitely will need to change his game up to accommodate Murray but I think it’ll be good for him.

Still, they mortgaged their future for a not-that-good core. Terrific trade for the spurs imo

Hawks have some extra unnecessary players now (like Huerter who wouldn't be bad here if they wanted to send him off in a TPE).

That said, I wonder if they will go hard after Gobert now.

Something like

Conley, Gobert

for

Collins, Hunter, Capela

I can see something like that working for both teams.

At first I thought Murray was the last kind of player the Hawks should target, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.  Tre Young was a zero in this years playoffs.  I think they want to get the ball out of his hands a lot more of the time and have others create for him for a change.  At first I was thinking that Brunson would be a better fit because of his shooting, but Murray's defense is more necessary to offset Young's lack of defense.  I like it for Atlanta.

I wish we could have gotten in on a Murray deal.  It may have been the perfect time to move on from Smart's offensive limitations, if we are ever going to do that.  Now I'll be rooting for John Collins.  Imagine having both he and Timelord available for lobs at the same time?  That thought makes me excited to think about.  Plus Collins spaces the court and has shown that he makes quick decisions.

Why they want Conley since they just acquire Murray..plus too much for Hawks to give up
