I believe that the 85/86 team may have been the best Celtics team ever.  The current team still has a way to go to reach that level.  However, this team's run could be anywhere from 5-10 years depending on injuries.  Thought I would compare ages of each team's top 9 players by minutes.

Brown -   25       Ainge -     26
Tatum -   24       Bird -       29
Smart -   28       DJ -         31
Big Al -   35       Mchale -   28
Rob -      24       Chief -      32
White -   27       Sichting -  29
G Will -   23       Walton -   33
Payton -  24       Wedman- 33
Theis -    30       Carlisle -  26

I hope this team doesn't peak for at least 5 years.  However they will need a replacement for Al.

A young big would be a good get. Al is probably not replaceable...

I like him too but Al is a really special player in the way he can defend.

I always thought Wendell Carter Jr could be a replacement for Al. He guy just needs to be coached hard I think.

Smart and D-White are at their peak, Al is on the tail-end, and our trio of the Jays + Rob are probably 2-3 years away from peaking. If Grant, PP and some others (picks, free agents or trades) can offset the eventual decline of our older guys we could have a seriously big window.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Hopefully they are more like the 80-81 Celtics

Sorted by playoff minutes with their age
Bird 24
Tiny 32
Cedric 25
Ford 32
Parish 27
McHale 23
Carr 30
Robey 25
Henderson 25

Those ages/roles are more in line with the current team and that was the real start of 7 or 8 years of true contention.  Horford is obviously older than Tiny (and there isn't really a Ford on this team), but that team ended up replacing Tiny with other vets (like Walton) as Tiny aged himself out, but the true core of Bird/McHale/Parish in 81 are much closer in age to Tatum/Brown/Smart so that to me is the better comparison and the real best case for the C's i.e. several title winning seasons and close to a decade of elite level play.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

How about the 2008 squad.

Rondo-22
Ray-32
Pierce-30
KG-31
Perk-23

Tony Allen-26
Big Baby-23
Sam Cassell-38
PJ Brown-38
Eddie House-29
James Posey-31
Leon Powe-24
Scal-30

Man, I loved that team…
