A change was needed but Guardians seems pretty bland to me.

I was hoping they'd go with "Spiders" or "Paladins"

"Spiders" would've been cool, and a good reference to the team's history. "Guardians" is ... well, I guess I'll say "meh" like some others here. It doesn't strike me as terrible, but neither does it strike me as solid. In fact, the "G with wings" logo looks minor-leaguish to me. And even though Cleveland has its "guardians" statues, that's not broadly known, and I feel like if a team is going to pick a name based on an aspect of its city/state, it should be something that doesn't make people have to go do research. A good example is the Colorado Rockies, which everyone understands right away.

And then there's Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers.

Oh, I know. I've ranted about those two before, LOL.

I jokingly said they should be the Cleveland Schott's.  You know since the Cleveland football team is named for the owner of the Bengals, the baseball team should be named for an owner of the Reds (well at least the most famous owner of the Reds, Bob Castellini is the current owner of the Reds).  My co-workers didn't think that was as funny as I did.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Sounds like the name of an XFL team.  The logo is awful, this is already more cringe worthy than the Wizards here in DC

Something themed around the rock and roll hall of fame would’ve made a lot more sense.  Like the Rockers or something

Washington Football Team still a better team than the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Wonder if the Chicago Blackhawks are going to have to change their name and/or logo.
Quoting Nick from the now locked Ime thread:

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Two problems with that name. 1) the Colorado Rockies and 2) John Rocker

Saw pics of some of their newly drafted players in the new hats, unis and stuff:

Looks like some real good prospects 😁

TP, Nick. I'd thought of making a Guardians of the Galaxy reference too.

i lived near cleveland for years. locally, the name spiders was a popular choice since it has history tied to an earlier baseball team. plus, it sounds cool.

guardians is bland as a name. but i like the logo. nice wings on it patterned after the figures on the bridge.

but it beats the snot out of the previous name and set of logos.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I was hoping they went with the Steamers.

Don’t like the name or the logo, but whatever.

Spiders would have been very cool!

Guardians is as bland as it gets.

Yeah I don't get it at all.  Pick something from the area or history or something that is just different and cool.  Guardians doesn't fit either of those.

They actually chose the guardians because the name actually has meaning and ties to the history of Cleveland.
