I just added EJ Onu a 21 year old Center from NAIA Shawnee St who could be a really interesting prospect.

He is reported to be 6'11 240lbs with a massive 7'6ws. This past season he 40% from 3 on 4 attempts and shot 75% from FT. His over all stats where 16.9pts 8rb and 4.55blks in 29.6mpg.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gPQKP4g7Xo

He clearly looks the part of the prototypical NBA big with his length and vertical pop. He would be an interesting gamble in the 2nd round if he is open to accepting a 2-way deal.

This is the type of player the C’s should be taking on as a project player. Someone with upside. Not a Tacko, Waters, Green, Edwards, Grant...

Looks like a fantastic prospect. Is there anything keeping him from being selected in the first round and getting a guaranteed contract besides his age?
I'd imagine its age and a lack of competition. I'm no expert on that level, but from the video, nobody can even get near him in the air. He looks enormous compared to everyone.

Agree competition level will be a big knock, also while his numbers are solid they are not dominate. Given the level of competition I would expect a player of his physical profile to average twice the rebounds.

For perspective, most of the players who come in for workouts prior to the combine are looking for summer league and training camp invites, as the bulk of workouts after the combine are devoted to higher tier prospects looking to be drafted.
That won't stop anyone from proclaiming that camp body x is the second coming. Me included!

AJ Lawson

https://twitter.com/Eshakah/status/1402004039538257921

Good find

Lawson is another guy who I wouldn’t be shocked to see go mid 2nd round. He is listed between 6’6 and 6’8 with at least a 6’10 ws and is an NBA level wing athlete. He shot 35% from 3 on 8 attempts per game and averaged 1.5stl per game in 31mpg. This archetype of wing is the type of player who is drafted in the 2nd round and carved out an NBA role.

I also like the fact he has been a very effective player for Canada’s FIBA teams including a 18pt 12rb championship game in a loosing effort vs team USA in the 2018 U18.

each and every guy you list above had upside....until they didnt.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

A 7’6” C who moves like they are walking in mud does not have upside. 5’10” guards do not have upside, A 6’5” PF/C that is slow laterally and lack athleticism does not have upside. Green probably had the highest ceiling, which is just sad.

To be fair he's pinning everything at the top of the box in those videos - this should translate to the NBA

That was the one reason I hesitated responding with the "he's more athletic than his competition criticism" haha. I more was trying to say even though hes more athletic than everyone, it will be nice to see if he can optimize it against players who are in his ballpark athletically.

Kid has pop though, I will give him that. Definitely worth a flyer anywhere in the second.

How much do you guys know about Shawnee State where he played?   It is a pretty small institution its in the NAIA, not  the NCAA.

he is a player who I actually forgot about in my personal rankings. He has solid SG size at 6'5 209 with a 6'7.75 ws, shot 40% from 3 on 8 attempts this past season. He played his freshman year at Kansas and was the 13th ranked player in his class according to ESPN. After not living up to expectations as a Freshman he transferred and thrived at Houston. I also like the fact that he was team USAs 2nd leading scorer in the U 18 FIBA just behind Coby White.

To me he clearly is an NBA role player and I suspect he goes in the 25-35 range. When compared to other 1st round SGs like Bouknight or Duarte its hard to justify ranking them much ahead of Grimes.

This guy is a first round talent. I’d love to see the C’s take a chance on him. TP for the breakdown.

Genuine shooter. 3PT attempt rate of 58% and he was hitting a lot of them. Not sure what his D is like

From what I’ve seen and read he should at least be an average NBA wing defender
