I know a team in a different sport owns this name but the Cleveland Lakers makes sense. Right?!?!

LOL. Yup, as much sense as "Los Angeles Lakers."

Nice to see that Cleveland's in no rush to change this "offensive" name, so they can make as much money as possible from it before ditching it.

I understand the context of ditching "Indians," and how the cartoonish Chief Wahoo is offensive, but I'm not convinced that "Indians" is offensive. Yes, it was an inaccurate name for Native Americans based on the geographic confusion of certain European explorers, but offensive? Or is it offensive simply because it's inaccurate?

Edit: Perhaps they should go back to being the Cleveland Naps, in honor of (perhaps) the greatest player in team history.

I think all sports teams should follow the Washington Football Team model, so that absolutely no one gets offended by anything.
George Washington was a slave owner. So it’s only a matter of time until they’re offended by the name “Washington football team”

The slippery slope was created by the perpetually offended, and it was enabled by the people who give them legitimacy by granting their wishes

Can’t even go with the District of Columbia Football Team.  Columbus was a genocidal maniac under today’s norms.

And Washington owned slaves, so there's that.

My thinking exactly. I hated going to college in Cleveland. Those years sucked. The city was a pit. But that was the mid 80's. Haven't ever gone back.

What is Cleveland know for besides it sports team?   All I can think of is Drew Carey.

I thought of synergy with the other sports teams but when I googled Brown Cavalier, all I found was King Charles spaniel.   Maybe that works.   In football, they have the dog point and in basketball, they only have success with king James.

I vote Cleveland Calvary. I mean if you're going to pick a mascot at least pick the winning side.

The CLEVELAND INDIANS baseball team, a charter member of the American League, founded in 1901, was originally named the Blues, then the Broncos, and from 1903-11 was known as the Naps, in honor of player-manager NAPOLEON LAJOIE. From 1912-14 the team was officially named the Molly McGuires but popularly was still called the Naps. In 1915 Lajoie was traded and, based on sportswriters' suggestions, the team became permanently known as the Indians, a nickname used in the 1890s when the Amerindian LOUIS "CHIEF" SOCKALEXIS played for the old National League CLEVELAND SPIDERS.

I'm really trying to come up with a good name, but I'm having a very hard time thinking of anything. Maybe Cleveland is just destined to be the most boring place on earth.
