Huge Sopranos fan here. I was really disappointed by this prequel. I just don’t see how Tony projected out to be this great talent that Sal was relaying to Dicky at the end of the movie, like what evidence was there? D+ student, robbing ice cream trucks, elementary school gambling ring? We should have seen more of Tony the leader, more focus on his character at that stage.

I have a few more nitpicks. The actor that played young Sal really dialed it up The mannerisms, it was too much. James Gandolfini‘s son who played a young Tony, I thought he did a pretty decent job with the mannerisms but I just wasn’t convinced that that was a young Tony soprano, there was a certain arrogance missing I think.

Definitely only saw one side of Tony (the side that resembled Anthony Jr., but much more competent). But this was really the story of the Moltisantis with the Sopranos as adjacents. Probably should have been a two part movie to put more Tony in there.
