Patty Mills just cooking Durant was not something I expected. Lol.

The USA has all those scorers and can't score more than 83 points?

It's a different game almost entirely.

Way fewer fouls called. Way rougher defence.

Think 80's or 90's ball.

Granted but they have some of the best shooters in the world. 83 points is weak for those guys.

That's fair.

To be honest, I think the USA will round into shape just fine. This early losing is just going to make them all play harder.

And also, let's not forget the gruelling season all of them just had. And the fact that they've hardly played together. And again, have to get used to these rules and not getting calls.

USA will be fine I reckon.

Right now they are out of sync and are over passing a lot.

Australia is really good. Not surprised by result. Tatum really struggled.

USA were doing ok for the first 3 quarters then they fell apart in the 4th. Defense was average throughout though. Mills had a great game.

One thing's for sure, they have a lot of work to do to figure out how to play together, and only two weeks to do it. I think they will start to gel as time goes on, hopefully before they meet some really good teams.

Patty Mills is a free agent this offseason...any chance we can do a sign and trade with SA for him using what's left of the Hayward trade exception?

I don't think we need a true big.  International teams are always smaller and softer down low, so we've been able to gamble by loading up on speed and athleticism.  It's ridiculous that we're losing these games.  I doubt their an indicator of how we'll finish the tournament, but as a country, I think we've all been distracted and distressed this year (and last).  No surprise that this year's Finals are wonky and our Olympic team is off to a slow start.

I don't think there is enough left over.  He just came off a contract earning $13M a year.  Seems I recall that the exception only has about 11 left in it due to Fournier's $17M.

Doubt he'll be in line for much money. Basically gives a team 10PPG and little else

Trae Young / Marcus Smart
Donovan Mitchell / Jrue Holiday
Jimmy Butler / Jae Crowder
Julius Randle / Marcus Morris
Bam Adebayo / Draymond Green

That’s my best shot at creating a USA team with some toughness and grit (not many American players that came through AAU culture  to choose from with any real toughness). Would that team do better in FIBA competition than the current star collection strategy?

Not to take anything away from the opponents, they've been tough and overall the international teams have improved tremendously across the board, but, I think a major factor in team USA's struggles is that these guys were already worn out from the short turnaround after the bubble and the condensed season this year. It's been a factor all through the NBA season and playoffs. Most of team USA's roster played major NBA minutes this season. On top of  that they've have virtually no time to train together. These things are not major factors for the other teams in the tournament. At least not nearly to the same extent of team USA.

My Mom!

Badly constructed roster. They allow defense so maybe send some guard defenders.

Who's the best guard defender on this USA roster?

It's going to be Jrue Holiday once the Finals wrap up.
