Slovenia just made the Olympics for the first time in their history. They beat Lithuania 96-85. Luka finished the game with 31 points (on 56.5% from the floor), 11 rebounds, 13 assists and only 2 t/o. Valanciunas and Sabonis scored 14 and 9 points respectively for Lithuania and grabbed 6 rebounds each. This is the first time that Lithuania will miss the Olympics since they broke away from the USSR.

Three more places are up for grabs:

Brazil is facing Germany as we speak. It's a 2 point game at halftime.
Serbia is facing Italy. The game is about to begin in a few minutes.
Greece faces Czech Republic. The game starts at 19:05 EST.

Biggest surprise thus far is probably Czech Republic's win over Canada. The canadians had a strong team with multiple NBA players such as Andrew Wiggins, RJ Barrrett, Luguentz Dort, Trey Lyles, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Dwight Powell. Czech Republic is mostly relying on Thomas Satoransky (of the Bulls) who scored 18 points including the game winning shot.

Luka dropping a 30 point triple double in FIBA play is absurd!

Once again,  Ben Simmons has spurned playing for his country to have another off-season where he doesn't work on his game.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

What are the FIBA rules in regards to hack-a-Simmons?  A Olympic repeat of his NBA playoffs would be really embarrassing and hurt his trade value further.

At some point this offseason, there will be a video released showing Simmons practicing free throws and making 3 pointers.  And some Sixers fans will fall for the fools gold again.

They have 'unsportsmanlike fouls' that can be called, whereby:

Quote
An Unsportsmanlike Foul will now be called when it is deemed that no legitimate play on the ball was evident, including late game fouling situations to stop the clock and fouls to intentionally prevent a fast break. An unsportsmanlike foul will also be assessed in a situation where a referee deems that unnecessary force or a ‘un-basketball’ action has caused a foul.

That would definitely remove the off-ball fouling that could occur, especially as a player is ejected after two unsportsmanlike fouls.

He has always seemed more interested in being a celebrity than into basketball to me.

If I recall correctly, the US got assessed intentional fouls in 2019 even when fouling the ball handler in a late game situation to stop the clock, because they were ruled to have not been making a play on the ball.  It would definitely be more difficult to employ a hack strategy against Simmons in the Olympics.

I really don't think he has the drive to be the best he can be...he's happy being decent or good enough to get by and he just wants to party with the hotties. And he's got $200m reasons to party. I guess I can't blame him, when I was 24 the last thing I was thinking about was becoming a CEO, I just wanted to party too  Unfortunately he's got a short life span as an athlete, by the time he realizes he's not maximizing his potential it might be too late.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Team USA up 43-41 at the half against Nigeria in their first exhibition game,  Tatum with a couple of threes and an And-1.  Durant got blocked at the rim on a dunk.  Games on NBCSports if anyone wants to watch.
