I’ve seen PJ play few times. he’s ok. Oddly Projected mid 2nd round pick in 2019 draft according to nbadraft.net
Measured 6'7 without shoes, 6'8 with shoes, 237 lbs, with a 7'3 wingspan and 8'9 standing reach at the June 2017 USA U19 tryouts
Highlights: https://youtu.be/-yUH9FgiJzM

I would really like us to pick PJ Washington. In this years draft he's anywhere between late first and mid second. Just like Diallo.
But I think if he stays another year he will be for sure a first round pick.

* Bowen would be an interesting gamble at #27 he has nice size on the wing and is suppose to be an elite shooting prospect and was the ESPN 14th ranked recruit in a stacked class

Added Dakota Mathias he is actually a really intersting late late 2nd to undrafted 2way contract player. Elite college shooter and solid perimeter defender

Omari Spellman seems like a real possibility at #27. The Cs have been trying to develop a back up who can play a similar role as Al. First it was Mickey who had potential on D but never developed on the perimeter and didn't seem strong enough. Now its Yabu who has a chance but needs to show that he can be consistent on D.
Spellman is an interesting fit. He already played the role at Villinova and is already a very good 3pt shooter.
His measurements are similar to Al's
Spellman
6'8 W/O shoes 253lbs and a 7'2 wingspan with 13.75% BF
Horford
6'8 W/O shoes 246lbs and a 7'.075" wingspan @ 9% BF
If Spellman can continue to trim down and plays in the 240s he might add enough lateral quickness to excel in Al's role down the road.
I also have to point out that DiVincenzo could be an interesting pick

I know micheal Porter Jr had an interview with us
The Cs and other teams try to meet with a range of players at the combine in order to establish relationships in case or trades or future free agency.
-
updated 5/22
to date I would rank the workout prospects as follows
1. Okogie
2. DiVincenzo
3. Spellman
4. Washington
5. Huerter
6. Ponds
7. Bowen
not counting Brown or Martin yet because I haven't been able to confirm.
Those 7 are players I could see the Cs taking at #27.
The rest of the workout prospects are likely 2 way contract later 2nd round guys who the Cs could either trade to get a late 2nd or wait to see who goes undrafted.

Good point. I think there is a good chance that Rodriguez goes undrafted. There also might be some good draft and stash players in the 2nd round of this draft: Kurucs, Bonga, Kulboka,Tryggvi Hlinason...

How about Jontay Porter? Micheal Porter Jr.'s brother.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that there are some mock drafts projecting him going late in the 1st round, or in the 2nd round.

Nah, not comparable speed wise. Jontay hasn’t lost his puppy fat, mainly because he’s still really young. Sorta like Smart when he entered the league.
Jontay can hit the 3 though, which makes him a lot more useful in our offence

Was he projected to be a good rim-protector? I don't really follow players in the draft that often, I only know of him because somebody mentioned him as a possible Celtic's prospect.

No, defense is away behind offense.
Tryggvi Hlinason however is huge and a shot blocker. It's very hard to tell his foot speed due to competition.

The list is getting long so I went back and put in bolt the players who have a shot at going 1st round. Ponds isn't typically viewed as a 1st round pick but my opinion is that he could be a surprise pick. Maybe not for the Cs but a team in need of PG depth could take a shot at him given his scoring and ability to run the P&R.
-
EC Matthews
https://hoopshype.com/storyline/draft-workouts/
interesting.
he was projected as a second rounder coming into this season and he had an underwhelming senior year. as a local guy, I hope he does well representing URI in the draft but I suspect if he makes a team it'll be as a training camp invitee (and not necessarily the C's)
-
Either DiVincenzo, Spellman, or even Porter Jr., I would be thrilled with. I really wouldn't be pleased if we drafted Grayson Allen.

The Cs are rumored to be interested in getting a 2nd round pick. Matthews, Pinson and Barnett are prime candidate to be drafted late in the 2nd with a predetermined agreement to sign with the Cs on a 2-way deal.

just curious - where did you here that?
If Mathews had played up to his projections, I could see the C's looking at him as an option in the second round.
-
How about Jontay Porter? Micheal Porter Jr.'s brother.
Haven’t seen anything about Jontay working out for the Cs.
And it's weird. Maybe they think he's a bad fit on defense, or maybe they don't want to work him out now to show interest? Because he can hit the 3, pass about as well as any big man in the country, is a legit 6'11", and got like 7 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots in 25 mpg.
He seems like as decent a mini-Al as you could hope to find at #27. Maybe we think there is a lot of depth at SG though, and we can find a 6th-man caliber SG at #27. Certainly possible.

I like Spellman but I don't think he's shown any ability as a facilitator, the way Jontay Porter has. Not sure he can play Al's role without this skill. That said, he was a great 3 point shooter this year, and a good rebounder, and he has the potential to play competent D.

I can see this kid coming off the bench being that Smart type player. Maybe not as good on D, but hustle, gets his hands in their to knock out loose balls. Kinda like Smart, not as good on D, but has a really good out side shot.
If Smart bounces, this kid could be his replacement, if Smart stays, Smart and DiVincenzo will be a good back up back court.
DA may need to trade up though. Had a good Combine. He's already moves up in a couple mocks.

I think Shamorie Ponds just said that he's staying in school. I was hoping to draft a combo guard to replace smart or TRoz eventually. I wanted Troy Brown who is good sized playmaker but he's been projected to go earlier. How about De'Anthony Melton or Shake Milton???

Someone good will fall. This draft looks a little top heavy but seems to have value all the way in to the middle of the 2nd round...

I love Shake Milton. On offence he reminds me a lot of D'Angelo Russell. Size, smooth, can shoot and is a decent passer.
Obviously, I don't think he's as good as Russell offensively, but similar games.
Don't know much about Melton, except that he's a good defender, if I remember right

Have to think they're looking at other guys like Jerome Robinson (BC) and Khyri Thomas (Big East) too. Maybe they've seen enough of them, but they're going in our vicinity and are SGs having different skillsets with Thomas being a 2-time DPOY in the Big East with his freakish wingspan and Robinson being the 2nd leading scorer in the ACC.
Sounds like they're looking at more 2nd rounders than guys in the 20-30 range. Wouldn't be shocked if they trade down myself.
-
Of these guys that are working out, Okogie, DiVincenzo, and Allen seem most intriguing to me. I could also see Brown out of Miami being a DA type of player.

This is a really interesting group as all 5 would make sense on this roster. Allen is the only one who has any first round buzz but the rest could fit if the Cs add a 2nd round pick.
Billy Preston is the dark horse of the group. He was highly ranked out of high school but was never eligible to play for KU. He has great size and a diverse skill set. He could be a surprise option at #27. Ill start a separate post to talk about him

TP for the article :). This part was quite revealing, to say the least -
“In 2008, we were unprepared for how we’d handle a deep playoff run [scouting-wise],” Celtics assistant general manager Mike Zarren said. “We got through it, but we just hadn’t planned out what was going to happen.
“We didn’t have as big of a group then as we have now in terms of scouts and data people. There’s just a lot of stuff to do, and if you don’t plan it well, it’s very hard to get everything done.”
There it is ::). WOW :o. *facepalm*

I liked Trier last year as a prospect we could maybe snag via buying a 2nd round pick (we ended up doing that with Semi). In this year's draft I am not as familiar with the players as last year, but it seems like there is tons of competition at SG, and Trier doesn't stand out to me as much.

Haha. Our team is pretty mentally tough and accountable, so I'd rate this the #2 "passing the buck" quote of our season, behind only Tatum blaming a few poor games on sleep deprivation due to his newborn son... But I love Tatum, so I only mention that in jest.

update,
noticed that Hamidou Diallo worked out for the Cs last year before going back to school.
I know from articles and threads in the past that DA is very familiar with this kid.
I have never been a big Diallo fan but I could see DA taking a shot on him in the late first. He was the rank 11th in his class by ESPN and twice participated in the FIBA U18. This is a good indicator of the level of pure talent he possess.

I agree he is an exciting addition to the workout list. Just listened to an interview he gave after Kings workout. Really seems like an intelligent kid who understand what he needs to do early in in the league.
He's my guy, this year, and I hope that we take him at 27, even though I seriously doubt it, unfortunately :-\. Sigh.

Interesting that Okogie might be getting a second Celtics workout

He’s definitely on my list of players I’d like at #27, and when Ainge takes a second look that often winds up as good news.

* Bowen would be an interesting gamble at #27 he has nice size on the wing and is suppose to be an elite shooting prospect and was the ESPN 14th ranked recruit in a stacked class
Great work on this list man, TP. I have an annoying request for another TP:
Can you take the guys who went back to school, who I think are in italics, and put them in a separate section at the end like you did with Bowen and Diallo? I think it would make the list easier to digest and I’m happy to help confirm that players are still in the draft pool tomorrow if you PM me.
Thanks again, this is a great thread.

much like last season the Cs workouts have gone silent as the draft approaches.

Really like the way Spellman played in the tourney - good shooter from 3 too. Wouldn't be a bad pick.
I thought Horford is 6'10?

He's been listed at 6'10, but I believe he's honestly and realistically 6'9. NBA drafts had him at 6'8 without shoes. Which is a terrible analysis to make, because when do NBA players ever play barefoot?
His standing reach is 8'11, but he has one step vertical of 35.5.

update,
noticed that Hamidou Diallo worked out for the Cs last year before going back to school.
Diallo reminds me of a Kent Bazemore type of player..im a UK fan and watch him..he no doubt has the talent..if they draft him, i would send him to Maine all season

It's the same argument that people have been making of Kevin Love.
People have argued that Love is maybe 6'6 or 6'7. So with shoes, he would be about 6'8.5.
Love is maybe 3-4 inches taller max than Rondo in the picture.
JJ Barrea has also been criticized for being '6 feet tall,' when he's always been known as 5'8 or 5'9.
Isaiah has also said, he's a 'little guy.'
In discussing the fans’ relationships with Celtics players, Thomas — one of a handful of NBA All-Stars in history under 6 feet — admits he’s even shorter than his listing lets on:
I’m a little guy — I’m only five-foot-eight — so unless you’re a huge basketball fan, you’re probably not going to recognize me around town. I’m not like Jared Sullinger ducking into the doorway of a restaurant. I blend in.
My thinking is that the NBA doesn't want people to think really short players can somehow make it into the NBA, lol.
They seem to go overboard giving players like CP3, 6 feet tall, when he has admitted that he's also 5'10.

He was 6’8 without shoes with shoes he measured 8’9.75”. Most players get around 1.5” from shoes. Teams usually seem to take the combine measure and round up for roster listings.

Really, it is more than that, I would say five inches at the least and I am six eight and half in shoes so I know something about height and looking down on folks.

Anyone else? I know your post is partly in jest, but at #27 it seems like there are definitely some other people to consider, especially at guard considering the depth there and the current soon to be RFA/UFA statuses of Smart and Rozier in the next 1-2 years.

is alkins going to be there at 27? if he is we should draft him. he can play in the nba.
-
This got posted in the draft workouts thread that was stickied from 2016. Relatedly, we might want to unsticky that thread and sticky this one. (Also, I’ve never typed the verb form of “sticky” so many times).
As draft week commences, former Cincinnati star Jacob Evans will have workouts with The Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors, League sources tell The Salt Lake Tribune. For Evans, it will be his second workout for both franchises.

Ooh, they worked out Tryggvi?? He’s one of my top targets for a draft and stash with a late 2nd, should we buy one.
I really don’t think Mo can handle the NBA. His defense is flat-out unplayable at the NBA level right now. He doesn’t have enough lateral mobility to handle perimeter switches well, and his post technique is quite poor also. He can’t help but commit reach in fouls.
If we traded out of the first, say with Philly for multiple of their seconds, I’d be okay with it, as his offensive talent is worth a gamble at some point. Just not in the 1st round. That pick needs to at least be able to fit into the end of the rotation as a rookie.

YASSSSSS!
Tryggvi, a tantalizing Icelandic prospect that I've been following ever since he got drafted to Valenica.
TP, saltlover, I hope we pick him up. Plus it would be fun to see Scal, Gorman or Tommy pronounce his name ;)
This guy has some raw, but high skill set. Very mobile, agile, and great hands.
He is certainly worth buying a 2nd rounder, as he can be immediately drafted/stashed elsewhere, and can develop quickly. He isn't like Iverson, or Perkins where he is just a lumbering big. He has very high IQ, and soft touch.
He led the tournament in blocks and efficiency, while coming in third in rebounds and seventh in scoring. Tryggvi became only the third 7-footer in the 21st century to average at least 14 points, 3 blocks, and 2 assists per 40 minutes at the European U-20s, after former NBA player Andris Biedriņš and 2017 NBA draft pick Anžejs Pasečņiks.

I like Bonga, but I don't like Tryggvi. He doesn't seem to have the reach to be a solid rim protector or having skills to make up for that.
The youtube-highlights from Bonga are very interesting. Especially his passing ability would make him an instant upgrade over Nader I would assume (I know he'll probably be stashed).
I would be pleased with the 27th pick to take Mitchell Robinson or Isaac Bonga. I doubt DiVincenzo will be available at that point.
Also I was bored, so I tried to look for correlation between physical profiles from previous NBA combines and relative draft success. According to my little analysis there's a very good chance that Bates Diop and Okogie will outperform their draft position. However I don't really see a role on this Celtics' team for either player.
On a side note, if the Lakers don't pick up his team option and we don't get a big man in the draft, we should try to sign Thomas Bryant. My model suggests he's a capable NBA player.

I've been listening to a bunch of draft class podcasts recently. Can't recall who said it but they said Bamba looks like a combination of Gobert and Myles Turner. Unfortunately, it was Gobert's offense and Turner's defense.
-
Well, I looked at the list....22 guys, one center and Bamba who's lottery....three or four small forwards and every low cost SG/PG you can dream of.
This process has Danny Ainge's fingers all over it...18 guards and he'll probably trade out of 27.
All I can say is it's lucky he's one of the better sports executives of all time or I'd be livid.

It's hard to tell with Tryggvi due to competition. He looks like he can pass and has soft hands and runs the floor pretty well for a guy that big. He has tree trunk legs and he's only 20. There are some teams that we could use size against but he is a project. I would like to see what he could do against the Tristan Thompson's of the league.

If we traded out of the first, say with Philly for multiple of their seconds, I’d be okay with it, as his offensive talent is worth a gamble at some point. Just not in the 1st round. That pick needs to at least be able to fit into the end of the rotation as a rookie.
Watching more film of each and Tryggvi Hlinason looks way more mobil than Moritz Wagner. Tryggvi can also block some shots. Also Mo is a year older that Tryggvi and hearing Tommy try to make something out of Tryggvi or Hlinason would be loads of fun.

He looks to go undrafted, so it would be fine to bring in for a look during the summer.

There will be some talent that falls out of the back end of this draft.

Looking at this group and the player who where not drafted I would love to see Allins and or Coulson brought into camp/summer league as potential 2 way guys.
