I sometimes post on SoSH, and saw this post a day or so ago. Scroll down to post #158 (past the funny honeynut Cheerios pix) :)
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/topic/75025-2012-general-celtics-notes/page__st__150
It is only a report from a "kid" who managed to talk with ainge for 45 minutes, but it has interesting points. The one about KG and rondo was especially interesting for me.
What ainge supposedly had to say about sully, gay, and others should make CB folks rethink some of their trade ideas.
I dont know how reliable the post is, but having dealt with SOSH for a few years, I know they are down right ruthless with anything they consider BS. If nothing else, it is a fun read and the entire thread has some good discussion.
I hope mentioning SoSH doesn't violate a CB rule/code. :-X
Enjoy...

I'm always pretty skeptical of stuff like this. Danny has pretty loose lips if he's telling a group of random fans that there was a mutual dislike between Doc and Ray, or that most of Perk's teammates didn't like him (which contradicts everything we've ever heard). Danny is also an idiot if he thinks "Varejao stinks" or "Rudy Gay sucks", and I'm extraordinarily skeptical that he'd call the Jeff Green situation a "debacle". Also, the thought that there's "antipathy" between KG and Rondo seems counter to anything we've heard
Maybe this guy's son ran into an Ainge lookalike, or more likely, he's making it up.
-
Would a GM be so straight-shooting? As in straight up say something like "Varejao sucks"?
That said, the only thing I really cannot believe is KG-Rondo. They are seriously such bros. You know KG isn't afraid to show what he feels about people (and neither is Rondo).
Maybe Ainge and the management don't like Rondo.
-
I'll add my two cents on the side of skepticism. I highly doubt Danny answers questions like that even in a non-public setting.
Not to mention specific answers that don't fit what we've seen. (Perkins disliked by team, KG/Rondo having issues, etc.)
-
No. I don't think it's possible that Danny Ainge is being that forthcoming about stuff that he certainly would never say to the media to a couple of random fans.
I do not believe it one bit.

Yeah, SoSH being mostly reliable notwithstanding, this seems a bit too much of a "scoop." Hard to believe Danny would just go off like this.

Yeah I dont see him telling all his management secrets to a group of kids just to "be nice". Especially in the days of twitter and facebook.
-
wow. so KG and Rondo have problems? That really does not surprise me if true from that link. I said it before. You move the ball as a team like we did with rondo out and you do not need a great PG. Just a guy who can score and dish. he does not need to be a great facilitator. It would not surprise me to see rondo traded by Danny for a big man.
and yes, i agree most of it sounds like hogwash.....but the part about possible problems could be true and rondo could be up for a trade. who knows? ;D

... which is why they're hanging out together outside of the team.
Here's how CSN described the relationship between KG and Rondo:
Second, it's fantastic to see KG and Rondo hanging out together. Not that it's any surprise. I think it's fair to say the relationship between these two goes deeper than any inter-athlete relationship in town. Deeper than Brady and Welker. Deeper than Lackey and Beckett. The KG/Rondo dynamic is a complicated mix of father/son, big brother/little brother, Master Po/Grasshopper and buddy/buddy. There are all sorts of ins and outs and what-have-yous. Just know that it's unbelievably special, and there's no relationship more integral to the Celtics success this season. So it's good to see them out having fun, continuing to build on their already rock solid foundation.
-
pretty sure that Rondo and KG might be the closest friends on the team based on reports

hard to read rajon at times. you could easily make out he and KG have issues on the floor. But not at that time off the floor clearly in your pic. DOes not mean there could not be problems we do not know about. again, who knows? ;)

Not sure what concerns me more, the article or the fact Rondo is pictured next to Snoop Dogg with a shirt that reads "High" lol
-
I'm sure Rondo would shove guys twice his size for fouling KG when he dislikes him
I'm sure Rondo would stand between KG and Melo at the bus if he dislikes him
...said no one
-
Maybe Danny was just being tongue in cheek the whole time.
Sure, Perk's teammates hated him.
Sure, KG and Rondo are at each others throats.
Sure, Varejao and Rudy Gay suck.
The only way those sentences would ever come out of Danny's mouth was if he was clowning.
-
I only believe this "chat" if Ainge was drunk, and as far as I know, Danny doesn't drink.
-

He wouldn't make comments like those even in jest to complete strangers.

Haha I had the same thought.
Where can I find that picture however? I would love to frame that!

While I am not sure I buy that any of this is legit, most of that goes directly in line with what I think Danny thinks (although I question whether he would be that open about all of it).
The only thing I am not sure of is the Rondo/KG thing. I always thought those two got along decently, and it was Pierce/Rondo and certainly Ray/Rondo where the real problems were. Although I also wouldn't be that surprised, if they didn't like each other.

You think Danny believes Jeff Green has been a "debacle"?
You think Danny believes that Perk was hated by his teammates?
You think Danny believes that Anderson Varejao "stinks", or that Rudy Gay "sucks"?

And those.
Except maybe the last bit.
The last bit and the Rondo-KG bits were the bits that stood out so I kind of overlooked everything else.
Gay's contract and the price tag on Varejao might make it so.

His effort to lower their trade values?
Yeah, this smells of something...
It is why I refuse to give the article another hit.

well, at least the source is reliable
...oh wait
-
Gay's contract and the price tag on Varejao might make it so.
I can buy Danny not wanting to take on Gay's contract, or not wanting to meet the Cavs' asking price for a banged up player.
I can't accept Danny thinking that Varejao "stinks", or that Rudy Gay "sucks". Both players are in the top quintile of all NBA players.

Well, I think the "debacle" may not have been a direct quote, since it was going through two people before being posted...but even so, he may call losing him for a year a "debacle". And based on the context, that could have been what he meant, not his recent play.
Yeah, I absolutely can believe Perk wasn't nearly as well liked as people want to think. I think he was best freinds with Rondo. But I also think there was a pretty strong divide between the young guys and old guys at the time Perk was traded. While KG may have loved him, I could see Pierce, Allen, and some of the other veterans, being sick of his antics.
Oh, absolutely (although again, not sure we can assume those were exact quotes, or just translations from the kids). I would not doubt that anyone thinks Rudy Gay stinks (or at least is highly overrated), and Varajao is basically an all defense, no offense guy (never something Danny loved), who is always injured, and despite gaudy numbers, hasn't done much to make his team better. So, its very believable.
-
I think the story was crafted to be "believable" to some though. Along with pushing a POV on the forums, plus general trolling.
The Tony Allen thing in the 07-08 playoffs also popped out to me, because Tony didn't even get in the game for Game 4 for more than a token appearance.

If Danny thinks Rudy Gay and/or Varejao "stink" or "suck", he doesn't deserve a job in the NBA.
As for Perk, all we have to go on is what's reported in the media, but here's what he said:
"Going back for the first time, I don't know what to expect. My approach is I want to win the game, but at the same time it is kind of hard with so many friends on the other side. Can I really be Perk out there? Can I really play my style? [Kevin Garnett] is my mentor. Ray [Allen] and Paul [Pierce] are my friends. Doc, we have a father-son relationship. [Rajon] Rondo, we talk every day. It's going to be hard."

Gay, though, has disappointed me so far (and a few others I'm sure).

While I think you need to take the actual words with a grain of salt, since even if this is true, it went through a couple people, and at best could be a game of telephone, I also think you can't make assumptions on Danny liking guys, just because they are in the "top quintile of all NBA players".
Danny has always had his binkies, and I think along with that comes guys he hates, not matter what others think.
I am not sure if those guys fall in that category, but I also don't think we can rule it out...for Gay in particular.
I think with Gay, its important to remember the past. When he was drafted, Danny wanted no part of him. When Randy Foye was off the board, Danny decided to trade out of the draft rather than take Gay or Roy, and I think that is telling. Maybe his success has changed things, or maybe not. In the past Danny has taken chances on old binkies who never panned out, but he thought he could save. It may work the other way as well.

Good call on that. In the one game where Tony did see moderate minutes -- 11 minutes played in Game 5 -- the Celtics lost.
-
I'm not buying this story as written. However, the guy on SoSH who posted it is a respected poster, so maybe it's a case of the person translating Ainge's thoughts skewering them.

This. I mean, has anybody ever had an opportunity to talk with Danny on this board? I have once, and I can tell you he is not exactly warm and fuzzy, or particularly talkative. Count me as skeptical.
-
I don't believe it. That's all. Nice try though.
-
I doubt this report highly. No NBA GM would be this open in today's social media world.
-
Seems pretty legit to me. I know Perk is one of the most widely disliked players in the league. I mean the NBA players voted him the top player " who thinks he's good but really sucks". And Ray and Doc's comments were after Ray left were pretty in line with this poster.
I think this is relatively legit
