Wow, we are 4 wins in a row on road in playoffs going for four in a row to win this series. We face their best tomorrow in Verlander and we most likely see Price although not sure as he was throwing a ton of pitches in bullpen as our heart attack closer got six outs......
Best case scenario, we play next game in Fenway in Series, worst, we go back to Fenway for game six and Sale....
Lets do this!
-
Hopefully Jonathan Papelbon will close tomorrow night.

Hopefully Jonathan Papelbon will close tomorrow night.
Unretire Beckett for an inning.
-
This should've been a swept had the Astros not cheated in Game 1 with their "Spygate" crap amiright ???

Please no. It's an even-numbered year, he always sucker during those
-
Well, Price is getting the start. They said the bullpen warmup last night was actually planned to help him get loosened up better the night before he pitches. He said it is a new thing and they are testing. I say, Whatever works....Come on Price....Shock the World tonight and out pitch Verlander!
-
For those that missed last night's fireworks...great summary with video clips of ten plays that made the game so special.

Rather see Byung Yung Kim or Eric Gagne at this point!
-
So who’s actually available in the bullpen for game 5?
-
This should've been a swept had the Astros not cheated in Game 1 with their "Spygate" crap amiright ???
Nah. The media narrative is that the umpires/league are giving the series to Boston. Despite the cheating and the fact that the Umps blew a call in game 3 that cost Boston 2 runs. The media conveniently ignored the video evidence on that one.

Yeah, that is obnoxious. Both were huge plays that could have been called either way both on the field and instant replay, but the media only focuses on the one that benefited Boston. There were so many great plays by both teams yesterday and so much drama, yet 90% of the coverage is on that one first inning play.

It’s their fault ($) for putting seats so close to the fence
-
Bases loaded and Betts coming to the playe. Let's make some noise here!
-
Price is doing an excellent job so far tonight
-
JD with the homer to put us on the board! There we go!
-
Martinez!!
-
Sox strike first. JD took what should have been strike 3 but missed by the ump, and then went yard. Thank you umpire... and JD.
-
Price is finally doing it tonight!

Price is finally doing it tonight!
He's looking like a true ace. Hopefully, he can give us a few more innings like this.
-
I'd be great to get a couple of more runs here, we've missed a few opportunities.

i have lost 2 dogs of old age in the past couple years, and just recently spent a day/night in ER for internal bleeding of my puppy, she made it even though they told me to say goodbye just in case...just heart wrenching, i hope he/she will overcome this :(

Price is the boss tonight!

Price is finally doing it tonight!
I think he may have forgotten that this is the post-season.
Nobody remind him!
-
Price is the boss tonight!
The Price is RIGHT!
-
So impressed with Price right now. Bring him out for the 7th
-
Price is the boss tonight!
Apparently the key was having him throw a bunch last night. My working theory: it tired him out, which cancelled out some of the adrenaline.
Or, he just developed a clutch gene overnight. 0 ER, 9 Ks
-
Winning tonight would be huge just for the sake of giving Sale plenty of rest.

I think you're probably right on that
-
Price looks relaxed, perhaps even sad. Maybe he finally found his calm by mentally motivating himself with something other than pressure.
-
Please don't take out Price yet.
-
Too bad, Cora took him out

I guess we'll never know, but I disagree with the call, too. Price was still sharp.

That is a beautiful stache. :)
-

All i can figure is that, given Price's history, Cora just wanted to preserve an essentially perfect performance for Price and not risk any hiccups. This is a HUGE moment for Price. If he can continue this the Sox are near unbeatable. IMO Cora was more worried about that than one inning, which might have done more harm than help.

Barnes was one strike away from a clean inning... so hard to trust this pen
-
Good move bringing in Eovaldi. Barnes was in self-destruct mode.
-
GREAT outing for Price! I've been hard on him, but tonight he earned his pay.
-
Missed opportunity there with Kinsler on 3rd.
-
Nice play by Gurriel. The Astros' defense is great.
-
Great job by Eovaldi. Who pitches the 9th? Please not Kimbrel. I'd have more faith in ERod.

The dumbest stat in baseball is the "save".
In the postseason, Kimbrel has pitched in 4 games. He's given up at least one earned run every game, with an ERA of 8.44.
Yet, he's 4 for 4 in saves, despite not doing his job in any of the 4 games.

One down.

Ok, feeling more confident.

Now, less confident

Tying run on deck.

It's actually been a Dodgers town post-Kobe and before the arrival of LeBron. Now, it's like 40/40, and the other 20 belongs to the Rams.
-
Dombrowski deserves big props for his in-season moves. Pearce, Kinsler and Eovaldi, and dumping Hanley.

During this run:
3 different GMs
3 different Managers
Pretty remarkable
-
That was incredible. Huge shot by Devers. Price played well. Kimbrel didn't blow it. And I'm on the Eovaldi train.

I didn't like dumping Hanley at the time, but Pearce fit so well. Could have used another reliever though.

Man, this could actually be the year where all four major Boston-sports teams bring home respective championships.
I'm happy with one or two, but four? Imagine that!

Just another Price comment here, but just wow. When he has that changeup going he is really hard reaaally hard to hit.
Awesome story. Good guy with a nice chip on his shoulder. Fairytale stuff if he can pull that off again in Game 2 of the WS.

I've been making this case on Over the Monster (SBNation's Sox blog), and a couple people there keep insisting that "it doesn't matter as long as he doesn't blow the save." To which I respond along the lines of: "Really? It doesn't matter that he's given up a run in every appearance? Or that he's issued tons of walks? Or that it took defensive miracles like Benintendi's catch to escape?"
That said, congratulations to the Red Sox on a well-deserved trip to the World Series!!!
Edit: I forgot to mention: I've been hard on Price, but he pitched GREAT last night. And other than a walk, Kimbrel looked a lot better than he has recently. It was also great to see JD go YAHD again.

What a game. You could sense the anxiety in the crowd, as they were desperately waiting/hoping for any reason to get into the game. David Price was virtually unhittable and completely took away any hope/fight from the Astros players and fans. I was so happy for him last night to finally get that weight off his shoulders.
I don’t agree with the narrative that there was no pressure on Price because his team was up 3-1. I think there was a lot of pressure to finish off the series last night, as there is a lot of doubt surrounding Sale’s health and anything can happen in a game 7. I like Lou Merloni’s theory that with only 3 days off, Price didn’t have to worry about overthrowing and effecting accuracy. From warming up in the bullpen in game 4, to him being the starter in game 5, he looked like he wanted to be out there, wasn’t afraid of the moment, and was confident. I could not have been happier for the guy. BTW, it was great after the game to see him in the hallway looking to find his family. Slowly, the crowd of team friends/family members parted ways to make room for Price’s wife and son.
It was also nice to see Jackie Bradley Jr get the ALCS MVP. I understand he only had 3 hits, but they were all devastating blows that also seemed to take away some of the Astros morale. He was struggling to hit for most of the first half of the season, but he stuck with it, and boy did it pay off.

Only a VERY few but I still think they should go back to San Diego. Man, during that Chiefs-Chargers game early this season, I just saw a sea of red in the stadium. And every Chargers home game is literally home-field advantage for the away team it's sad :-[ Hate to say it, they look like the Clippers of football.

Dang, Brewers with the rout tonight to force Game 7.
Maybe I may have spoken too soon about a Boston-LA World Series :o
-
Apparently Kimbrell was tipping his pitches all offseason until game 5 of the ALDS (with Eric Gagne of all people being the one that told Cora). That certainly explains why both the Yankees and Astros were teeing off on him, and why he did better in game 5
Figuring that out doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, though, since he could have been tipping pitches in multiple ways and we just caught the one

Maybe he was just overthrowing and ended up losing control on his pitches, because he was overcompensating over the fact that the batters were so locked in on him. He could have just been a head case too over the fact that he and the coaching staff were so concerned about reasons 2-10 (between mechanics, arm angles, pitch selection, etc) that they totally glossed over reason #1 of tipping his pitches. Kimbrell pretty much mowed everyone down in game 5 after figuring out he was tipping his pitches.

Yeh. That was my thought when I heard this explanation.

I would think that hitters being locked in more made him try to work more on the corners (which led to more balls), and possibly overthrowing a bit to try to make up for everyone teeing off on him for seemingly no reason
I agree that it doesn't make me hugely confident though, he looked much better in game 5 but starting to tip your pitches is not something you can just write off. On th bright side, though, the Red Sox should be watching closely to see if any of our other pitchers are/start tipping pitches
