Let's build this up!

Bill Russell is arguably the best basketball player of all time. He also is highly supported for his public service, standing up for civil rights and recently receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In addition to winning 11 NBA titles with the Boston Celtics, Mr. Russell also won two NCAA Championships for the University of San Francisco. Recently, the Boston Celtics announced that they will build a statue in his honor. USF should do the same and build Mr. Russell a statue at USF's War Memorial Gymnasium. By signing this petition, you are showing your support for such an initiative.

Do they have other statues of secular figures there?  I can understand if a Catholic / Jesuit university didn't want to build a statue for a non-religious figure, as great as his accomplishments were.

Bill Russell definitely seems to be their most recognizable alumnus, but if they have a policy against statues, I respect that.

There is a sculpture of a non religious person at their law school. Also, USF's head basketball coach and an employee at their athletics department have already signed the petition.
