It's funny just how varied the opinion is of Simmons just in this thread. I agree that Philly would and should consider a Simmons for Kemba trade if the possibility ever came up. They need a star PG who can shoot - Kyrie, Kemba, Curry, Harden, Lillard, Young, Murray, etc. Let's be clear - Simmons is a star in the making - and the Sixers should only take back a star (in his prime) if one is offered.

They could always bank on Simmons' talent and attempt to trade Embiid for someone like KAT instead. In terms of health and spreading the floor, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea, but it's hard to see PHI going that route.

I’d be all o er that if I was Philly. I just find it hard to imagine Embiid at age 29 how he’ll be moving if he’s playing at all.

The salaries are tough to balance with Simmons' extension (PPP), but I think he can only go to a team that believes he is a "fit".

PHI: Simmons, Horford, Zhaire Smith
HOU: Westbrook, PJ Tucker, McLemore

Now you have

Westbrook/Richardson/Tucker/Harris/Embiid
Harden/Gordon/Simmons/Horford/Capela

Video game trade for sure, but Philly punts on a lot of future money to Simmons and Horford to roll with a Westbrook + Embiid monster. Houston puts two high-talent, good passing, low shooting volume guys around Harden.
There is no way Philadelphia would consider any sort of deal built around Westbrook. Not with how much he's clearly declining year to year.

How much better than Horford is Westbrook? I'm not sure its by much if at all.

I still like Lillard for Simmons for both teams.

Sadly Lillard went on a full media blitz declaring he's never leaving Portland.

Probably not going to be true forever, but it will mean I think he spends another two seasons there at least.

Didn't he sign max already? Does he get no trade clause? If not, this is a great trade idea.

Sixers should keep Simmons for now in case Giannis refuses to sign the super max extension in the summer

I was kicking around this trade idea in the machine last week when the Embiid quotes came out, really like the concept.

It give the Rockets a much more balanced squad to put around Harden and still keeps them looking forward with the upside that Simmons brings.

Embiid just implied that guys need to take the shot if they have the ball. Cant think of a much better player for that than Westbrook.

Not sure if either side would consider it. I probably favor it more for Houston but IMO Westbrook is the best player in the trade. Westbrook's deal is brutal but then so is Horford's. It really could be win win for both sides.

You would get quite a haul four a young all star.

When he first played as a rookie, that's the comparison that came to mind (Magic Lite).  took Magic a number of years to develop an outside shot but he was much better at every aspect of the game than Simmons has been.  of course Magic is an all-time great (though a much despised Laker) while Simmons is star prospect losing the shiny appeal of being new with anticipated upside

I know if won’t happen but I’d love to see Lebron get traded for Simmons.
2019 Historical Draft - Golden State

C - Bill Russell/Joel Embiid
PF - Giannis Antetokounmpo/Tommy Heinsohn
SF - Kevin Durant/Billy Cunningham
SG - Bruce Bowen/David Thompson
PG - Isiah Thomas/James Harden

I agree they are unlikely to want Westbrook, but my point is more the structure- getting an All-Star point guard in return and cutting salary.

Despite Westbrook’s insane salary this saves them about $70M in future dollars.

I think you could also argue that of the 3 big names in this deal, Horford is the one in decline. He’s 2 years older than Westbrook, averaging 12/6. Westbrook is coming off 3 straight years of averaging a triple double, and is still giving 25/8/7 as a second option.

Personally I think Philly is stuck either way because all of their money is locked up. $130M/year for their starting 5.
