This article details the raptors' season but also talks about some characteristics that championship caliber teams share.  It also gives some good insight into the impact a true superstar has on a team.

A thing to remember when trying to guess the value of what a davis deal will cost.

Demar Derozan
Jakob Poeltl
Raptor 1st rounder

For

Kawhi
Green

Remember that....

Davis is NOT going to cost 4 picks, Smart, Tatum Brown and Williams.

Kawhi also demanded to be traded without playing and sitting out the season, which definitely hurt his trade value.

Davis pretty much did the same thing.

Kawhi has been incredible on both sides of the ball. He switched onto Giannis and really bothers him, in addition to running the offense on the other end and routinely converting the most difficult shots. Can't say enough about how he's carrying that team.

31.4 ppg on .631 true shooting.
8.4 rpg, 3.6 apg.

We ultimately don't know what Kawhi will do, so there's that, just like a Davis signing would present the same doubts.

What's different is Kawhi had also just come off a lost year with a very mysterious injury. For him to come back like he has and take his game to another level like this is more than anyone had a right to expect from him. He still has to stay, but they rolled the dice and appear to have won. Physically, Davis presents a much lower perceived risk.

Also, while both players have had uncomfortable meltdowns with their current team, the Davis situation seems more transparent. It seemed a lot harder to figure out what Kawhi Leonard was doing at the time, and that may have rattled teams who would have been interested

Sure, in a similar sense. But they are both different situations. Leonard demanded a trade in the off-season on a championship caliber kind of team, Davis tried to get traded before the trade deadline, based on his affiliations with Klutch Sports.

That's not how the market place works.  Supply and demand will dictate what the final trade package is. There are several very motivated buyers in the Davis trade market: Boston, Knicks, and Lakers, all three with good, superfluous assets to offer up.  The buyer's market for Kawhi was not nearly as strong last summer.

Yes, but the most incredible thing is that he is doing this while clearly with a hurt knee or thigh, which has significantly impacted his ability to cut and jump.  I have come to admire his mental strength and toughness .  Really negates all the criticism he received last season for not playing hurt.  This guy is incredible.

Buyers dictate the price.

And there was just as many buyers for Kahwi last season.

Obviously I love Larry Legend, but you could make a case that all 3 of the top SFs ever (when they hang it up) are either in their prime (Kawhi, Durant) or just exiting it (Lebron, maybe Durant?) right now.  Kawhi might just be my favorite non-Celtic, having passed young gun Devin Booker.

Really?

When he went down due to that dirty player Zaza, Spurs never looked the same again

The only one who people can rightfully argue ahead of Bird is LBJ. I'd disagree, but that's the only guy who I'd listen to an argument for.
