Seems to be trending around 14 so not too unrealistic.  IMO he would be the most talented guy at that point.  Suffered a lot by having a bad team around him but he's an NBA player and athlete.

The biggest issue with his game, and it's an important one, is his defense.  He was downright awful at keeping his guy in front of him.  Kind of ironic since Greg Anthony was such a tough defender.

I hope not

He reminds me too much of Kyme Irving.    Especially at defense

He is also 6'1 and not that athletic

I rather wait until the 20s and draft Devon Dotson.  Or  Ty Shon Alexandre  in the 2nd round

I wouldn't take Cole.  Poor freshman season.  I agree re the Kyrie Irving comparison. No thank you.

Kyrie is a hall of famer and you wouldn’t take him?  Ok.

Want to see him go to the Knicks. If Anthony would have had a great year he would be too high to get. If Knicks won the lottery it would too much a reach given his freshmen performance. But at 8 it's not a huge reach with most the PGs bunched together.

There are a couple of things that I think need to be factored into Cole going #14 to the Cs.

1. His athleticism is a question mark. He looked much more explosive in high school and recorded a camp best (tied Jalen Lecque) 43" max vertical at the 2018 U18 USA Training Camp. His medicals will be critical for a team to determine what happened physically to him this past year.

2. Joining a team where he will be humbled by his teammates could go either way. Joining the Celtics where he will not start and will be behind multple stars on the offensice pecking order will force Anthony to play a complementary role he not used to. Romeo had the same thing happen this season and embraced it and has surprised everyone with his play as a defender. Cole would have to either except his role or fail as a celtic. This is where interviews in the predraft process are so important.

3. If he excepts his role the spacing, coaching, and player mentoring he will receive in Boston could be the perfect combination to help him reach his potential. Projecting long term a lineup of Anthony, Smart, Brown, and Tatum could work really well with Anthony as the  secondary creator to Tatum.

As I previously mentioned (in the "who you got with 14th pick", I think) Cole Anthony is exactly the type DA could nab, as he was a top 5 recruit coming out of HS.
As for people questioning his athleticism: While I myself didn't see any great athleticism, you have to take into account that he came back from an injury when everyone thought he'd just sit out and work on getting ready for the draft. Wrong! This guy loves to compete and his overall explosiveness was likely hindered by him not being 100% healthy. He will live at the FT line. He's a very good rebounder. He is sometimes turnover prone but that might have had something to do with his surrounding cast. He's not a terrible defender, as some have stated.
I would be OK with this pick, depending on who else is available (I really like Patrick Williams & Nesmith) . It would be very similar to the Langford pick.

He’s a very slightly taller Carson Edwards. Would be a poor choice for us.

Hard pass.

I'm in on Anthony. Here are my reasons why:

1. Only two other players played more than 5 games for UNC and shot over 30% from three on his team. UNC ranked 307th in 3 point attempts per game. That means that the floor was congested for him and explains some of his poor efficiency. This wreaks of another Jaylen Brown situation, where the individual stats may tells us more about the team than the player's ability.

2. Anthony demonstrated the ability to score in many different ways, which is one reason why the comparison to Carson Edwards doesn't stick well. He did step-back threes, pull-up threes, spot ups threes, step-back twos, floaters, up-and-unders, eurosteps, and much more. He has abilities that many guards take years to develop.

3. I like that Anthony helps out on the boards, and I think it reflects well on him that he got rebounds even though his team played two-big lineups a lot. It shows heart and hustle.

4. His movement is smooth and quick. He reminds me a lot of Mike Conley in the way he plays on offense. I think he has similar court vision but his assists were lower in college compared to Conley due to the congested court and poor shooting by his teammates.

5. I think he demonstrated a good ability to draw fouls and get to the free throw line. His feel for that is excellent, which projects well for his scoring in the NBA.

Overall, I think Anthony has a legit opportunity to become a high-level starting point guard/fringe all-star in the NBA (CJ McCullom, Kemba Walker, Fred Van Fleet range of player). I think his pedigree will likely lead to him working hard, especially with the infrastructure in Boston, which means I think its likely he reaches his potential.

maybe.  He did shoot 38 percent on a decent UNC team.  That is pretty bad

defensively his effort was in and out.

Also some post injury questions

I would be surprised if Danny takes him at 14

Sure. That's another way to look at it. There are definite reasons why he's not going to go in the top 10. Efficiency on a poor offensive team, defensive effort, and some injury concerns (probably not big concerns, but they are still there) are all reasons why he will likely drop.

There is some talent there though.

My hope is the trade up scenario. Something like 7 for 14, 26, 30, and I think that no other player in this draft would fill a bigger hole for us than Onyeka Okongwu.

Couldn't be more happy with our roster construction but my main question with this team is are just going to continue to play Center by committee or could we lock in a true undisputed starter at the 5 to grow with Tatum and Brown. Theis is not a true starter, Kanter is a specialist, and personally I don't view Robert Williams as our future starter.

Here we have a kid who when asked about his role on his high school team he claims "veteran scorer". He seems to have a good read on himself and his abilities. I see a physically gifted prospect with a mature feel for the game and that is rare as a big man prospect toward the top of the draft.

Haven't seen him discussed here much. What do you all think of Okongwu?

So a less efficient Dennis Smith Jr is what I'm getting from him
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The Center question is probably worthy of its own thread...

I personally do not have a problem with Center by committee but it has to be built the right way and that may prove to be difficult. Theis is super valuable because he is a rare big who can play what I see as the 3 types of P&R coverage. 1. Switch 2. Hedge and recover 3. Drop. Drop bigs are the easiest to find (ex Kanter, Porier, and Taco). I consider a hedging big to be one who can jump out in a smaller player then quickly move back into the paint be lacks the ability to drop his hips and really stay with a smaller guy. (R Williams). Switch bigs are very rare and are mostly bigger wings playing up (G Williams types). Theis is rare in much like Horford before him he can do a little of everything vs P&R.

In this draft I see possibly three bigs with the potential to play this 3 tierd D. Okongwu, Achiuwa and Tillman.

In the free agent market these types of bigs including Theis are likely to get PAID. This is where the committee worries me as the Cs can’t afford to bury a lot of cap into centers. Getting by with exception guys like Kanter seems more realistic.

Hitting on a draft pick or further developing R Williams may prove very important to the future roster construction. For this reason I also think it could work out nicely to use a first to unload Porier and pick up an early 2nd to take a shot on a big project like Nnaji, Stewart, or Azubuike

The mock drafts I'm reading have Okongwu going top 5.

Just curious, because I don't know the answer to this. Why is Okongwu considered such a better big prospect than Precious?  They have similar size, length, and motor. Neither is particularly adept outside shooter.  Yet every mock draft has Okongwu going 5-10 spots higher than Precious.  Why is that?
