I hope so, with Pierce, Daniels, Bowen, Walker thats some SF rotation.

I agree, this really would be a great signing, of course, health will be the wildcard

Theres no question he can still defend, and anything after that would be gravy

There's definitely a question as to whether he can still defend. Them legs are gettin' real old...

Bowen is still a very good defender, he simply can't keep up that well any longer with the very good players of the league.

With that said, I'd be happy signing Bowen, but I hope he's simply a player we can stash in the bench, and we allow either Walker and Giddens (hopefully) to get some quality playing time. If they don't cut it, you can default to Bowen then.

I'd think Bowen is still a better defender than Daniels.  He's not as athletic, or as big of a scorer, but at least he can throw a 3 pointer up there.

Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Assuming that Daniels would get the Bulk of the wing minutes, Bowen would make an excellent 4th wing. It's like you said he's no longer a shutdown defender, but he's still a solid one. As long as he can play solid defense and nail the corner three he'd definitely be an asset to this team. He's also a player who probably won't mind riding the pine for a bit, if Walker or Giddens steps up and earns some minutes.

...again I don't like Bowen, but he makes a lot of sense for us.

The advantage with Bowen (for a minimum contract) is that we don't have to play him every game. We can use him when it makes sense, like San Antonio did at the end.

I sorta like the idea of Bowen in a trade and taking his 4 million salary because if we trade out the same amount, we end up with a bigger expiring to use as a trade piece at the deadline. That 4 million could net us a 5+ million dollar player in return by itself, combined with Scalabrine's 3.5 million it could bring us an 8-10 million dollar player. Players in that price/skill range are certainly big difference makers when added for the playoffs.

This is surely a risk but if the Bucks like a couple of our players as short term roster filler (Tony Allen and Gabe Pruitt for example) then who knows? We may be able to squeeze a 2nd rounder out of them as well.

I wouldnt care if Bowen was in a Sam Cassell role this year either. Playing just once in a while, being a practice body, Teacher for young players, locker room guy, and finally used as trade value or to free up cap space.

I'm likewise told that there have not been any trade discussions between the Bucks and Boston that would put Bowen back in Celtics green, even though the 38-year-old seemingly would appeal to the Celts to plug into the role -- perimeter defensive specialist who can drain 3s, guard certain power forwards and provide some championship know-how -- that they never filled last season after James Posey left.

I read the same thing you did and read it the exact opposite way. The title should read "just saw this... Celtics not interested in Bowen??" Stein is just speculating that the Celtics would be interested in him to fill the Posey role from two years ago, but haven't shown signs of it.

I for one would like to see him on the roster, if he would accept the minimum. The last two or three spots on the roster should go to specialists. Players that do one thing really well and won't kill you in other areas (such as defense, three point shooting, ball pressure, etc.) Guys like Bowen, Lindsey Hunter, and Quinton Ross would fill those types of roles.

For people that wouldn't want him on the roster, think of it this way... If Ray Allen went down for the year and we had to start Daniels every game, who do you want as his backup playing 20mins a game? Tony Allen or Bowen? Who is more valuable to your team... Projects and stiffs like O'Bryant, Swift, and Pollard? Or a guy like Bowen?

If we could get him at the minimum, it's a no brainer, but I doubt that would happen.
