When Rondo wants to play, it's a decent matchup with Rose - although Rose is clearly the superior player in all phases of the game right now.

Problem is, I've seen only brief flashes of the kind of effort - attacking the rim with the basketball, actually staying in front of the man he's guarding, etc - from Rondo since his binky got traded.

At the level Rondo's competing now, there won't be anything left but bones when Rose gets through with him.

You think Rose is a better passer and defender than Rondo?

Rose isn't a better passer, better defender or a better rebounder. Rondo's got more rebounds, more assists and a much better assist/turnover ratio for the month of March alone, when this month has been the worst he's played in at least 2 years. "All phases of the game" generally isn't synonymous with "scoring".

  • Rondo = Good
We're not getting Chris Paul, whether we want him or not.

End of story.

Posts like this accomplish only one thing; they embarrass Celtic nation. Fans come over from rival point-guard teams(who feel quite insecure about Rondo's success, in case some do not know)and read these posts...then make endless fun of Rondo's "little value" when compared to own Rose or Paul. Well, that must be true, they say, if Rondo's own fans want to "trade his ass" and constantly "embarrass him themselves". Go over to the Bulls blog and harvest the results of your light hand, OP.

In my book that's plain betrayal...
Want to constructively critique Rondo's play? Do it. As for threads that call for "Rondo for Paul", they are plain embarrassing, disrespectful to our team. Like Chris Paul? Watch the Hornets...very simple.

Ps. To all the "trade specialists" out there....leave the trades to the GM's. Fans don't do trade, fans root. Thats all they can, anyways.

you art indeed holier than the rest of us posters *bows*

seriously though, i don't think there's anything wrong with trade scenarios. we're fans and we have differing opinions, especially with regards to how good certain players are. At the end of the day, i would think that we all want the Celtics to win.

PS: Fans don't trade, but fans talk. they criticize players, coaches, GM's etc, and they're free to wish for things, whether it's rescinding the Perk trade or luring a big-name FA in 2012 or in this case, trading Rondo for CP3.

I agree with the poster in that 'the grass is always greener' scenario, but do disagree that if we want a player (like Chris Paul), then we have to root for the Hornets. Fans are fans of laundry first and then players (guys like Perk and AJ, we will always root for, but we want the Celtics to succeed first).

Besides, calling for no more trade scenarios would cut out like half of the forum topics...

How can we make work a trade Rondo for Chris Paul work?  Can't get it to work on trade checker.  Paul is likely going to leave NO.  Would NO take a Rondo for Paul swap?

Would be great to have a point guard that can run the team AND shoot!  Chris Paul would look really good next to the Big 3.  Team wouldn't be able to double off of anyone.

Always been a Rondo fan, but I am fed up with his inability to shoot.  He's becoming a huge liability, especially down the stretch of games.  After 4 years of very little improvement in that area, I'm not sure he's ever going to learn.
All sounds nice and looks good to have CP3 play alongside the Big Three but he is the NO Hornets at the moment marketing wise.

Right now - note the use of that phrase - there is nothing Rondo does better than Derrick Rose. Nothing. Rose is keynoting a winning team. Rondo is keynoting a losing streak. Case closed.

Coach, the use of the phrase "right now" doesn't change things. Even "right now" Rose isn't a better passer/rebounder than Rondo. If you can show some evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears. "Because I say so" or "The Bulls are winning while the Celtics are losing" isn't really good enough.

So if the Celts start winning and the Bulls start losing does that make Rondo better than Rose in all phases of the game? Or if Rondo scores more points that Rose over the next week does that make Rondo a better scorer "right now"?

I hate to admit it, but the bloom is off the Rondo for me.

Ha!  You sent me to the Oxford English Dictionary to find the first reported use in this sense (James Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson, back in the 18th century), but the usual phrase is that the 'bloom is off the rose'.

I meant it as a bit of a pun, since it means something that once had appeal has now  lost its allure, and that would apply now to Rondo, rather than Rose.
