That kind of sucks for Jefferson. He was seemingly willed away from retirement by his teammates only to be dumped

hmm...I hope its not to clear space for a bigger deal.

Sounds like Jefferson is getting waived by the Hawks, and he does not plan to to retire. Would we have any use for him? He looked pretty good in short stints in the playoffs last season.

Nope, just getting down to 15 guaranteed salaries and reducing luxury tax burden.  No more, no less.

Well he can retire now if he likes, with his full salary.  Or he can sign on elesewhere, which would indicate he wasn’t ready to retire anyway.

Really never understood why people feel bad when players get waived or traded to save cap space. Yes, it sucks to change zip codes, but... Josh Smith is still getting the money from Pistons, just like KG is still getting paid from us for the next four years lol.

I would take that as a blessing, and find another team where Jefferson can lead the youngsters, or another contender that could use his floor spacing small ball abilities.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to send forward Richard Jefferson, guard Kay Felder, two second-round draft picks and $3 million to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told ESPN.

Cleveland and Atlanta are planning a trade call to finalize the agreement with the league office Friday night or Saturday morning, league sources said.

Atlanta intends to waive Jefferson and Felder, sources said, and they would become free agents after clearing waivers. Jefferson was set to earn $2.5 million this season and Felder $1.3 million.

The Cavaliers will send the lesser of second-round picks owed to them from the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019 and a 2020 second-round pick via Portland, league sources said.

The Hawks will send back the draft rights to Dimitrios Agravanis and Sergii Gladyr, according to a source.

Cleveland will create two trade exceptions ($2.6 million and $1.4 million) with the trade. The Cavaliers will have one year to use them.

The trade gets the Cavaliers' roster to 15 ahead of the start of the regular season. The Cavaliers will save $12.8 million in luxury tax by unloading the two contracts.

I get why the Hawks would waive Jefferson but I have no idea why they would waive Felder.

Me neither. I thought he was decent in the limited minutes I saw of him

Can only have so many ball handlers on roster. He'll end up somewhere else quickly for a look.

Several "non-contending" teams interested in Richard Jefferson, would like to get him in before season. #Celtics another possibility. He wants to keep playing.
