For those of you watching this Patriots/49ers game, does anyone else think that Matt Cassell is reminding them of Drew Bledsoe?

Cassell seems very imobile in the pocket today.  He's been sacked what...5 or 6 times?  He needs to learn to not hang out in the pocket and needs to learn to get rid of the ball.

Looking a lot like Bledsoe today in my eyes.

I dont think so.

I think Bledsoe stood around for hours, trying to find someone deep.  But he was still ok at awareness and avoiding guys, he just waited too long.

Cassell has no awareness in the pocket at all.  yea, he has no internal clock about when to get rid of the ball, but he also hasnt shown the ability to take those little steps around the pocket to shift away from the defense (something Brady is amazing at)

No.

Pocket awareness is something that takes a long time to develop.  Cassel is obviously more mobile than Bledsoe, but he hasn't developed the ability to create time in the pocket.

This is something that Bledsoe even learned to do (he had really bad lines if you don't remember).

Overall, I think Cassel will continue to get better at avoiding rushers.  He obviously won't ever have the pocket awareness of Brady, but because of his running ability, you have to think he will improve.

I don't think a Cassel comparison to Bledsoe is fair- you're comparing a 26 year old in his third start to a potential Hall of Famer (who is obviously underappreciated).

I really like Cassel - but I don't think the comparison is accurate, unless you're just counting sacks.

So does Kevin O'Connell start by sometime in the 2nd half of the season?

not unless Cassell gets hurt.

Remember, the 'plan' was to have O'connell as the third QB this season (which means never play).  The injury to Brady changes that, but they dont want him playing this year.  He doesnt know the system.  Anyone grimacing watching Cassell would probably cry when watching O'Connell, he would be lost.

Well then, let's hope that Matt Cassel stays healthy and proves serviceable.  Looks like they've reining in this game now at least.  He and Moss did connect and the Pats rang up some points.

I would be impressed if Cassell can become anywhere near the QB Bledsoe was.

RE: The OP's initial question:

"Maybe, he's sure not turning into Tom Brady!"

Sorry just thought about the season where Bledsoe...and then Brady...ah sorry. I like the Lions. They're worse.

Agreed.  Bledsoe was the first pick in the draft, led his team to the Superbowl (twice, if you count when he filled in for Brady against Pittsburgh in the AFC title game), and was given a $100 million contract.  He was a very good player in his prime.

Completely agree.  If he is close to Bledsoe, then we are a lock to make it to the playoffs.  He had a great arm and could be very effective as long as our line holds up.

Turning into Drew Bledsoe? ****. We will be lucky if he turns into Ray Lucas at this point.. I would say Rohan Davey the likely career path for him. I personally feel that BB knew that losing Brady would be a lost season for the team so he didn't bother with a competent backup. And no I kinda doubt O'Connell is the answer....

Bledsoe!  I'd settle for Zolak, at this point.
Yup

I was always a huge Bledsoe fan, and Cassell is nothing like Bledsoe.  Bledsoe held the ball too long because he kept going through his reads, looking for an open man, rather than throw the ball away...Cassell is freezing.  Cassell also doesn't have any pocket presense, and rarely stands in their to make the pass when the pressure is coming (something Bledsoe did to a fault).
