Looks very much like he fits the recent mold of NCAA power-forwards that transition to NBA playmakers.

If I recall there was some concern that his ceiling was merely a gifted college level post-player.  Certainly looks like he has the basketball skillset to grow into a Star.

I'm sure the Celtics will identify and snag one of these unicorns eventually.

Edit:

Adding his highlights from Japan vs. Argentina and Gonzaga vs Zion Williamson's undefeated Duke team (Gonzaga Wins)

8mura (8 in Japanese is pronounced as hachi as well) was one of my binkies aside from Goga. I thought he would've developed a corner three irrespective of the improvement of his isolation/creation skills, and would've at least been an interesting high energy combo forward who can stretch the floor from the corner and provide some toughness.

Yeah, I don't see the athletic profile to make him a unicorn. He is nice, but a unicorn like KP or Giannis? Nah

Just wanted to post an update on his FIBA play.

He's currently averaging 21 points, 6 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.8 steals, 1 block, shooting 57.6% FG and  76% FT, in 30 minutes per game.

His physical profile and game look a lot like a young Kawhi.

The unicorn looked more like a giraffe today against Team USA.

Against everyday NBA talent, Hachimura might turn out to be pretty good, but I do not see star potential there at all.

It's really hard to determine when the remaining Japanese players look more like a YMCA team. Even Giannis who is playing with much better talent is not dominating in FIBA since all the attention goes to him. He did have a pretty awesome dunk and does seem to be athletic enough to make some noise.

He looked young and inexperienced against experienced NBA players, but you could see the potential. High end, I could see a Danny Granger type player, but I doubt he gets that good.

The dunk was nice. Most dunks are. It's the other stuff I judge him and all players on. And don't get me wrong, I like the kid and think he could be pretty good eventually. It's just I see him as being Trevor Ariza good, not Giannis or Paul George good.

Thanks for the laugh that was too funny.

He was absent in some of the NCAA games while Brandon Clarke's back was sore from carrying him.  A lot of mock had us taking him was relieved when we did not.
