Plan B or C

That 2017-2018 team was close but no cigar.  It showed promise, making it all the way to the ECF, game 7....

Kyrie likely is out unless Danny does some drastic lineup changes, trades/overpays for AD and even boots CBS.  So unlikely he chooses this path

Trading for Beal could be a possibility but could be tricky...depending on what the Wizards are looking for in return

So basically, this would mean to continue with what you have and at least move forward with that 2017-2018 playoff squad with hopefully Horford staying and Hayward inching closer back to his all star form.... such unit can try to make it back to the ECF

Resign Rozier to a similar deal Smart received ...pencil him as starter and send Smart back to coming off the bench

Starting lineup

Horford
Tatum
Brown
Hayward
Rozier

Bench
Williams
Baynes
Semi
Smart
FA singing
2-3 draft picks

* Theis, Wannamaker, Morris contracts not renewed
* Yabusele traded

Rozier plays a similar offensive game to Kyrie, except he's worst at scoring, passing and shooting.  His defense is theoretically better, but he rarely shows it any more.

The East has improved dramatically since 2017-2018.

Off the bench his defense is just average

As a starter his defense is better

I don't want to pay him what he's demanded/expected as a contract. Though if he signs an offer sheet I guess I can see matching it.

Sometimes this can backfire

What if the Magic offer him 15 million per year?

I wouldnt want to pay Rozier more than what Smart received

I will be happy to root for Terry Rozier, starting point guard, provided he's on some team other than the Celtics.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Yes.  Rebuild his value...to either keep or trade.  He's a good teammate...only one way to find out if he can get back to last year's form with this team.  Play him.  He's a billion dollars less expensive than Kyrie.

The East has improved dramatically since 2017-2018.

This keeps getting ignored. The East grew up.

Let's assume Toronto and Philly run it back with their squads, they should be considered favorites to be in the Top 4. Milwaukee should be a favorite to win the Conference again.

I don't believe that reverting back to the 17/18 squad would be putting this team in the best position to move forward.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

If they're gonna roll with Brad, the first thing this team needs is a defensive guru on the staff, a guy that developes big men skills like rebounding and post moves, and then a shooting guru.

Marcus should be the starting point, and if Rozier stays should back him up and never as an undersized wing.

Use those picks on bigs and stop trying to be clever gambling all the time.

Let Brown and Tatum know the 2 and 3 spots are theirs and show faith.

One of the 4 picks and/or Williams should be beside Al from day one, and let him show that guy or guys what he needs on the floor beside him every game, and stick with that all year long.

Don't know about Hayward yet. Let him come off the bench with Morris until he's consistent. If not...that's his spot.

No more chemistry problems, and a team that will work hard for Brad.

Obviously to me young guys that grow in Brad's system and appreciate the faith he shows in them always seem to overachieve. I would cool the jets trying to get vets stuck in their ways to play for Brad.

Eh. Gambles way too much on steals, and for a guy as quick as he is it's amazing how much trouble he has staying in front of his man.

Also, he has a *lot* of trouble handling picks.

even with the gambling

he is a much better defender than Irving. Better rebounder, at steals that lead to transition buckets

If we get the number 9 pick from Memphis this year, we could get a solid prospect

Coby White might be available

No, thank you. I'd rather the Cs get an established vet who's a solid, consistent player, like D.J. Augustin.
