Wiley, when I titled this thread I wasn't thinking polically, and the double meaning never occurred to me, but I think you are right...it is confusing.  I am glad you found us, though...and thanks for contributing.  I have a voracious sweet tooth.  Cinnamon sugar on popcorn appeals to me, too.   ;D

Ha ha...Yeah.  When I opened the thread and started reading posts on page 2, the next thought I had was that political tea party members had started a non-political thread about back to salt of the earth kinds of things, then I had a pang of jealousy that I wouldn't be involved!  Anyway, it very quickly became clear it was a literal tea party.  Thanks for the thread!

I can go sweet, but in fact I tend to be a de-sweetener.  For Nestle toll house cookies I use about half the sugar called for and double the salt!  I will also eat a hunk of baker's chocolate between two animal cracker type cookies.  And I love to cook down some rhubarb with very little sugar (certainly I add some type of sweetener, but I'm mad if I overdo it) and then dump ladle fulls of hot sour rhubarb onto vanilla ice cream.

Another thing I do to ice cream, which you will have to do alone as no one will ever join you in this, is the following:

To a bowl of vanilla ice cream add a ton of cinnamon, a healthy amount of nutmeg, more clove powder than usual, Cardomon powder if you want, ginger powder if you want (the last two are optional), squeezed lemon juice from a quarter of a lemon, and salt.  Wait for it to melt enough so that you can stir it up into one of those ice cream mountains (not yet liquid), and eat.  You'll never go back!

(I was very proud of myself when I learned that Italians have a salted caramel ice cream....re-inforcing my salt on ice cream idea).

  • No contaban con mi astucia !!!
Squeeze 3slices of pinaple
with one mashed garlic slice and onion two slices of a gentle one
if you can make it even juicer with a tanguerine, do it
some mint leaves will do wonders

add salt and pepper just because

sink pork  chops into it a day before and use as marinade

by the time you make the barbecue use the slices as plate
and cook them with 2 very thin pineapple slices as cover
if you can add honey and a closing barbecue

as usual try not to use gas do it on a charcoil barbecue
gas barbacue are for the unlikebles

Thanks.  I agree about the charcoal vs gas, but no charcoal allowed here...fire hazard, I guess...so gas is better than none, although I always used charcoal when I had my own house.  I promise, if you ever drop in for dinner, I will not cook it on the gas grill.   Still friends?   :-[  ;D

Gluten free (no bread,  ;) )Canapes:

Mix 1/2 pagkage of cream cheese with 2 - 3 tbls. (or to taste) blue cheese, then use as a filling spread between two pecan halves.

Doesn't get any easier than that!

Boy oh boy!!! I just heard a hint on the news I wish I had heard years ago!  If you use Silverware as opposed to stainless (I do for big gatherings) don't dump the water after you boil potatoes.  Put your silver in it and leave it aside until it cools (or a couple hours)  then wash!  It polishes the silver for you!  I haven't tried it yet myself (just heard it) but I HATE polishing silver!   I am going to try it before my next party!  If you or someone you know tries it and it works, let me know.   :)  If this works, and you want to earn points with someone who uses silver...pass it along!  If it is that easy to polish, I might use it more often...

Oh, and I wouldn't have thought of it because...if you are polishing silver, the silver shouldn't touch steel during the process  or it will discolor.  Evidently, with the potato water that is not the case...

With the Super Bowl fast approaching, does any one have any favorite recipes that they serve for that occasion?   We usually go to the Varsity Club (Sports Bar) for a Super Bowl party, but this year I thought I might throw one myself (if I get some good recipes... hint, hint, hint  ;) .  If I do, it will probably only be for about 6 - 8 people  (small condo).

Has anyone used one of those hanging upside down tomato planter thingy's and were you happy with the results? ???

We've been intrigued by them.  I was at a friend's parents place last weekend and they used a few.  Seemed to work well enough.

I've done them the last two years.  Had moderate luck...About a third of what a ground plant would produce.  Planted jalapenos in a few of them last year and they produced actually more than my jalapeno ground plants.  They need lots of water and a lot more watching than ground plants.

WOW, Finkelskyhook, so many burger ideas, and they sound great!  When it comes to hamburgers, it is so easy to fall into a rut.

If you like peanut butter, try  Peanut butter Icing. (Especially good on chocolate cake, IMO.

           1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
           l lb. confectioners sugar
           l tsp. vanilla

           Mix until smooth.
(add up to 2 or 3 tblsp. milk if
           necessary for spreading consistency)

P.S.  My philosophy in cooking is try everything, then adjust for taste!
