Injury Updates: Hayward, Embiid, George, Anderson
April 17th 2018 at 2:00pm CST by Arthur Hill
Celtics forward Gordon Hayward is ready for the next step in his rehab process, writes Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston.

President of basketball operations Danny Ainge announced this morning that Hayward is going to Indianapolis to work with a top specialist in running mechanics. The goal of the visit is to help him improve his form as he continues to recover from a fractured left ankle. The Celtics and Hayward both have prior experience with the specialist.

Ainge added that Hayward continues to make encouraging progress from the brutal opening-night injury that wiped out his first season in Boston. Hayward was shown jogging on the court with Celtics trainer Jason Smeathers in a recent video.

Any chance of Hayward returning was finished when Kyrie got the surgery.

2019 champs boys.

I agree. I don't think he was ever going to come back this season. After an injury like that it makes no sense to bring him back before his 100% and not in the playoffs.

If he is medically cleared and in basketball shape before the finals, and we are lucky enough to get that far, why wouldn’t he return?

he would return. People online get too scared having flashbacks of the injury that happened a long time ago

Smart money is to shut him down for maximum recovery.....both mentally and physically.

Of course he would return, but its not going to happen. Its already the playoffs and they are sending him to a specialist to teach him how to run forward.

That doesn't even include running and jumping. Moving sideways. Making cuts. Running backwards. And then doing all that at NBA basketball speed.

He isn't coming back this year. There is just no chance he will be ready

Beat me to it. There's no way - given where he is now - that he'll be medically cleared this season. I never understood why people thought he was coming back in March. That would've been a miracle recovery.

Yeah. The guy can't even properly run yet. He had a setback not too long ago doing safe 'low gravity' running. He will not be playing in these playoffs. Hopefully he will be ready to go by training camp, but even that is unsure at this point imo.

Smart will be back if we survive long enough in this round, Theis even may have a small chance of returning if we make it far enough, but there is no way Hayward or Kyrie play in these playoffs. What we got now is basically all we are going to have the rest of the way for this run.

I would love to get Smart back though. He's made for the playoffs, and a lineup of Smart with Morris and Jaylen out there together would be totally bad-ass.

Dang, I hadn't seen the news about the setback. I knew he wasn't coming back this year, but setbacks are never good for long term health.

Can't we just stop all of these crazy 'Hayward might be back if we make the finals' kind of thoughts?  He isn't even close.  Hopefully after a full summer of rehab / conditioning / recovery he can be fully ready for training camp.
