If we were Boston Nets some 6 years ago this deal gets done.

Kyrie is a expiring contract so I don't see why they trade for him

they would have his rights, which would allow them to sign free agents up to their cap, then go over it to sign Kyrie.

Would allow them 3 max free agents and go into the tax.

That's not how that works. He'd have a cap hold which would take up space until he's resigned.

yup, but his caphold is much much less than what his salary will be.

I havent looked at the numbers, but i AM pretty certain it will allow for 2 max free agents, then resign Kyrie afterwards.
His cap hold will be 150% of his previous salary. So it will be approximately 30 million dollars. Which is about 2 million less than what his max contract will.

They would not have space for 2 max FAs if they retain Kyrie's bird rights.

I run the calculations on Knicks salary page.if they trade for kyrie and trade their picks and young players for AD. They will have around $36 M to offer Durant in free agency. Not bad for them if it happnes

With the recent comments from Kyrie, do you think NY would go for a trade of:

New York Knicks
Kyrie Irving (He agrees long-term)

Boston Celtics
NYK Lotto Pick (Unprotected)

Thoughts?

I would have done it yesterday

Knicks wont do that ... when they can sign him for free this coming offseason

Makes no sense.

Boston knows if they trade for AD they're keeping Kyrie.

NYK knows Kyrie only joins them if Boston strikes out on AD and they're able to entice another big name as well.

NYK knows that enticing another big name probably requires getting an exciting player in the draft or using that pick to trade for somebody exciting.

I don't see it for either side.

Well reasoned. TP.

If AD is traded before the deadline, have to think long and hard about trading Kyrie.

I'd hate to trade Kyrie, but if Ainge knows he's leaving, send him to BKN for Russell.

BKN in: Irving, Morris, Bird

BOS in
: Russell, Crabbe, Musa

BKN can then re-sign Irving and chase Durant or Butler. We build around Russel, Tatum, Smart and Brown
This post made me ill.

Lol yeah I was going to say, D'Angelo Russell may be talented but since his antics in LA, I think there's a negative stigma about him. Also, in that Brooklyn game last Monday, the game was relatively close in the 4th quarter and Kenny Atkinson didn't even bring Russell into the game.

Assuming Danny believes Kyrie is about to leave, I'd try to make a deal with the Clips.

Celtics in: Tobias Harris + SGA + Jerome Robinson (#13 last June) + renounce protections to their pick this year
Clips in: Kyrie + Theis + Bird

The Clips would then go after a second star via free agency (Kawhi/KD/Butler etc.)

First, let me preface by saying this probably would never happen in a million years

But just for fun, how about this?

Knicks get-
Kyrie, Marcus Morris and our 4 first rounders this summer (including the Memphis pick, whenever it conveys to the other team)

Celtics get-
Enes Kanter, Kevin Knox, Emanuel Mudiay and their no 1 pick this summer (unprotected.)

Would never happen however this would have the NBA and fans talking for MONTHS!

Yes. The Celtics would never do that.

Again, LA will have cap space. Why give away assets for a guy you can sign without giving up anything? LA would be better served signing Kyrie outright and using those assets to acquire another player via trade that's under contract for a year or two.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

No, I don't think either team would do this.

This idea isn't fun at all. Kyrie is a top 10 player and the best closer in the league. He's untradeable.

The Knicks are not spending a single asset for KI. He is either signing with them in the offseason or he's not.
