Basically scoring 20 ppg with 6 apg and 5.5 rpg.  Though not a good shooting efficiency at just 53.7 TS% (in part because he doesn't get to the line all that well).
Smart is at 53.5% TS%. Think about the amount of frustration and anger Smart gets for shooting too much. He only takes 10 shots per game. D Murray takes 18 shots per game!

It is not only how inefficient a scorer D Murray is but also how shot happy he is.

He wrecks his own value by how much he hurts his own team with his bad shooting & inefficient scoring.

What I mean is, he makes a lot of positive things happen for his team but he also makes a huge number of bad plays ... the net of positive minus the negatives just isn't that great.
That is fair.  I just think he'd be unlocked some here and he has improved his 2PT% every year in the league and is upping his 3PT% up the last several (as he has taken more shot).  Perhaps he needs the ball a bit too much to work with Tatum, but I do think he'd improve here and his passing would be a big help on the team.  But maybe not.  There is always a risk.  Some of this is my frustration with Smart and my concern he is basically done as an impactful player.  I just don't see him coming back to what he was last year and that is about the only version of Smart I can truly take.

John Collins definitely is someone we want to avoid and definitely has much lower value than smart. The hawks would be driving to Collins to the airport if we offered smart for him. His contract came up as one of worst in nba on the recent podcast and a large part of it is because he can’t shoot anymore since his hand is completely mangled (seems like it will be a chronic condition). Warning, this is not for the faint of heart. But here is a picture of his hand.

I was not aware of the Hand/Finger injury.  That could explain a lot.  Reading up on this, he injured the finger in March 2022 (last season) and played through it in the playoffs.  The picture in the Tweet is from March 2022.  There was a further report from the summer that it was still bothering him and still grossly swollen.  I have also seen reference to a "foot injury" but also from last season.

In 2029/20 season, Collins was 20 pts/10 rebs on 40% 3P% but declined every season since.  This season he is 13 pts/6 rebs on 27% 3P%.  He has fallen off a cliff.  He is still only 25 years old so ample time to turn things back around but there is a ton of risk and uncertainty if you trade for him hoping you are getting the 20/10/40% player and not the 13/6/27% player.  I have no idea what kind of player he really is or could be.

If Boston can't resign him trade him to Atlanta for Young and some extra pieces.

Listening to friends and family in GA and more specifically the ATL, I don't want anything to do with Young!  I'd rather have the Collins/Murray one mentioned earlier, and I don't want that either.

Yeah I wouldn't want Young at all.  Thinking creatively what about something like this

Boston - Lillard, Nurkic, Griffin
Atlanta - Brown, Smart, Sharpe
Portland - Young, Collins, Bey/Okongwu

Something in that general framework.  Obviously Portland would have to be ready to move on from Lillard, but they'd get their new Lillard in Young.  Boston goes for it big time over the next couple of years with Lillard, though obviously would affect the long term.

So Post Trade for Boston next year (without adding a free agent - 1 open spot in that scenario after bring back Grant)

Starters - Lillard, White, Tatum, Al, Rob
Playoff Rotation - Brogdon, Hauser, Grant, Nurkic
Deeper rotation - Pritchard, Griffin, Muscala, Gallinari, Kornet

Team really leans into size and adds a mega scorer next to Tatum to really help him take the load off.  Lillard finally has a real shot at a title.  Lillard obviously has a massive contract, but this gives Boston a real and legit 2 year window and still a good shot at winning for the life of Lillard's contract.

I don’t particularly want to trade Jaylen, but if our hands were forced, I’d love Trae. We have the defense to make up for his deficiencies in that area and he is an incredible scorer. I get it, we would then essentially have 4 PGs (plus Payton), but all of them except Trae are extremely versatile.

At least with Trae, you are getting a true All-Star. Trading for Murray and Collins (with Smart apparently going out as well, which is nuts) lowers our team ceiling. We have enough very good players already.

They had said on one of the podcasts that his hand is still really. Othering him this season for whatever that is worth.

JKJB.

Energy spent thinking about trades would be better spent thinking about how to keep him here.

First of all, I have always wanted to keep both superstars together.

But, I know he is gone after this year. Feeling I am out of here  vibes and we will have no choice.

Tatum needs a strong, reliable big like Kobe always had. Dont settle for less.

In the meantime, lets win one title together and dont be the Thunder.

*this is not a serious post because I want to JKJB

I don’t want Trae, but I would love the guy he was traded for, Luka. Dallas is in a nose dive since adding Kyrie. Luka might not have wanted out before, but he’s probably more willing now to ask for a trade.

Kyrie would have to want to stay in Dallas for this to work, but JB and whatever for Luka. JB gets reunited with his buddy, and Celtics get a star that can take the pressure off Tatum.

The first caveat is the same with Trae, the defense has to step up to cover for Luka, but at least Luka is physically bigger than Trae. The second caveat is whether the problem in Dallas is Luka? Is he so ball dominant that he can’t play with Tatum, or does he open up both his and Tatum’s games? It would be nice to have someone besides Tatum taking last second desperation shots trying to win a championship game.

I've kind of soured on Luka over the past few months. He can score a ton, but he also isn't a good defender at all. And the Mavs are below .500, though they weren't exactly firing on all cylinders even before the Kyrie trade either. His lack of defense also hurts Dallas in close games. It's nice when he's making clutch shots, but Dallas has also lost a ton of close games due to their inability to get stops as well.

As for potential fit here, I mean yeah he's better than Jaylen, but by how much? He's a better scorer, but a worse defender. And yes, he'll require the ball a lot. Not sure how that'll work with Tatum. I think Jaylen at times does defer to Tatum or others when they are hot. Doncic I doubt would.

But anyways, I'm in the #JKJB camp. I do think what makes us lethal and better than a lot of teams is that we have one of the best duos in the league, right there with the likes of Steph-Klay. Even when comparing teams like MIL who have the best overall player, the C's arguably have the best duo which can make up for it a bit. They need to do everything they can to extend Jaylen and make him happy here.
