Yeah, that's one of the drawbacks of having a low post number.  Just keep posting, I guess, and remember to delete your messages when you're done with a post.

The Clippers are proud to announce the signing of Jeff Van Gundy as their new head coach.
Van Gundy signed a multi year deal.

While not officially a member of the coaching staff Mark Jackson was present at the press conference. Jackson told 4 members of the media, 2 caterers and a janitor that "You're better than that." before being escorted away by security.

The Orlando Magic, continuing their tradition of losing out on coachess they really wanted, had hoped to hire Jeff Van Gundy to make the first Brother co-coach duo in NBA history with his brother Stan who was resigned for 5 years. The contract included a clause that voids it if Stan Van Gundy does not stop wearing (a) long sleeve t-shirts w/ no ties under his sportscoat and (b) sportscoats that are too small:

Having lost out on Stan's brother to the Clippers, the Magic turned their sights on bringing back assistant coach Clifford Ray as big man coach, and luring Tommy Heinsohn out of retirement to serve as Fast Break Coach/Ref Heckler. Signing both to multi-year deals.

The Magic are also in negotiations with Florida resident Bob Cousy to be the new PA announcer. "This may or may not affect our drafting strategy," said GM Mark P.

Finally, the Magic have stuffed Stuff as their mascot and has hired Gob Bluth, founding member of the Magicians Alliance, to be our mascot.

  • The good ole days.
Can you explain in more detail 'draft takes place Monday - Friday, 1:30-4".  First, is that Eastern Time?  Also, from what I gather, the draft takes place in the Draft Board thread?  How much time does each GM have to make their selection after the previous pick is posted?

Also want to make sure this is a draft for this year's purposes only.  (i.e. KG is still very valuable, as compared to less valuable if it was a keeper-type draft where age was a factor).

Thanks!

Look here for actual draft schedule.

We do one round a day.  You pick is due by the time next to your name.  If everyone took all the time they needed, it would be 5 minutes between every pick.

So next week, we will do rounds 1 through 5.
The following week, rounds 6 through 10
and finally, 11 through 15.

Age can be a factor based on your team.  If it is a win this year team, then the age is a small factor.  If the team is a contender the next couple of year, age is a larger factor.  If the team is a young, good in the future team, then age is a major factor.

Thanks... so I guess my next questions - how do you win?  (Mainly, what is the benefit of building a team for the future?)  And this is Eastern Time?  (I ask because I'm a West Coaster).

The most important thing to remember about this is it's one of those "it's not about the final destination, it's about the journey to get there" type of things.  There isn't really a "winner", so much.  The real purpose of this is to have fun and to distract ourselves for a few weeks.

That being said, the plan as I understand it from wdleehi is to have votes for things like "best team for now", "best team for the future", perhaps something along the lines of "GM of the year", etc.

And yes, all times are EST.

Does the whole drafting schedule change if someone takes 30 seconds to make a pick, instead of 5 minutes, or are the time slots cast in stone?

- the list of players is for information purposes only, and that people shouldn't rely upon it.  Also, players not under contract to NBA teams can be drafted.

So hypothetical situation here.  If players not under contract can be drafted, could I hypothetically draft say Michael Jordan?  When you get into the later rounds, I'm sure retired superstars would add more to a team than Scal would.

Also, for the first round, draft starts at 1:30pm, I pick 5th at 1:50pm.  If the first first 4 guys only need a minute each to post their picks, and so we're only at 1:34pm now, do I still have till 1:50pm to make my pick?

Edit - ah I see Redz beat me to my last question.  Should I be concerned that me and you are thinking the same thing.  I have nightmares just thinking about what goes on inside your head  :o ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I think I remember someone posting to volunteer an overwhelming amount of free time to plug in the rosters in NBA 2Ksomething and simulate a season.

We will keep the schedule as is.  I know last year there were posters that could only log on for a short time so would come on at their schedule time and make the pick.

No if within a round, the person in front of you makes their pick, you do not have to wait to make your pick.

Roy I think you forgot part of the names of these awards, they're missing "2nd" at the front (i.e. 2nd Best Team for Now....) since the Orlando Magic plan on duplicating the Celtics/Celtics/Ainge trifecta from this past real NBA season!
