I am of mixed race and I disagree.

Suggesting to hire based on race is not something anyone wants to see...from either side of the spectrum.

Steven A., suggested that KD and Kyrie should have demanded hire the next Nets coach based on race (all things being equal with no previous coaching experience)....at least that’s the way it came across.

Race is a touchy subject so I’ll leave it like that...

What say you?

No, it's not.

It's an idiotic, not well thought through (Doc, Kidd, Mark Jackson, etc...) , hot take by Screamin' A.

A bit to unpack here...

Would Mark Jackson, Lue or any other minority candidate actually be a GOOD FIT for the BKN job?

I know I'd probably get some eye rolls from Kyrie and Durant but did THEY sign off on Steve Nash? We ALL know how this stuff works......

Will Steve Nash be a good coach? I believe he will be. I'd guess that OFFENSIVELY BKN will be fun to watch but unless Steve brings in some defensive gurus BKN could be Phoenix (mid 2004-2008) East.

In summary I believe there are other undercurrents involved here other than White Privilege. The NBA seems to be The Gold Standard for Minority hires or at least leading the way. I'd say give Steve a chance....contracts mean nothing nowadays. If things go south then he won't last the full term.

Yeh.  If anything the guys who have spent years cutting their chops as assistants in the NBA should be bent out of shape - regardless of color.  But Nash has nothing to prove to anyone of any color in terms of hoops acumen.  Sheesh.
Yup

I'm assuming Durant gave the OK on Nash being that they formed a close relationship over the past few years in the Warriors organization. I don't know how Kyrie feels about the signing but with Nash being a former PG I'm sure he is fine with it. I think the rumors earlier in the season linked Jason Kidd as a favorite target of Kyrie as Nets HC so it will be interesting to see where Kidd will end up now.

I'm the one guy who said yes only because Nash hasn't been on the radar of trying to get a coach job. It's like they sought him out.

They sought him out because Durant and Kyrie wanted him to be their coach. Are they the ones perpetuating "white privilege", by that logic?

They did seek him out. Pursued him aggressively

Chuck speaking straight truth. Was it Black privilege when Kidd, Doc, Isiah, and other black players got hired with no head coaching experience? Or, do owners and GMs recognize high BBIQ in former players and think it translates into those players being able to be head coaches, regardless of the color of their skin?
