I Love Kate Bush. And the song Black Star coming out right before Bowie's death was hauntingly beautiful. In the world of music, Bowie is God.

Some essential albums for me:

War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding

Kamasi Washington - The Epic

Kurt Vile - Waking on a Pretty Daze

Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Father John Misty - I Love You, Honey bear

The Decemberists - The King is Dead

Sharon Van Etten - Comeback Kid

Camp Cope - How to Socialize and Make Friends

Anderson .Paak - Malibu

Tyler the Creator - Igor

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity

Many others but that's some of those that come first to mind.

Kendrick Lamar killed it this decade with several amazing albums, but I figure people have heard of him plenty.

All the 80's songs I listened during the 2010's.

Lol, I don't mean to hijack the thread but seeing how a few of us are living in the 80s, I can't live without:

Def Leppard
Journey
Van Halen
Prince
Michael Jackson
The Outfield
The Romantics
Tears for Fears
The Scorpions
Whitesnake (and that's just the tip of the iceberg)

But I digress.....and wear my sunglasses at night.

Agree about David Bowie. Blackstar is a tremendous album, but, not my favorite Bowie album. That goes to Let's Dance.

Yeah, the timing of Blackstar definitely changes how I listen to it.

Always hard to choose a favourite of Bowie's for me! Seems to flip flop a lot. Guess I can blame almost 5 decades of output

Speaking of albums for which the timing of the release affects how you listen ...

Purple Mountains, anyone?

Devastatingly sad record from the Silver Jews frontman, David Berman.  He writes with awful beauty about losing his wife and struggling with depression.

Not long after the album released earlier this year, Berman died.

It's an amazing album.  Heart wrenching and beautiful.

Punk rock in 90s, 00s, and 10s, so pretty much any band that I loved in the 90s that is still putting out relevant music today. Some more recent albums from bands that are my favorites:

Bad Religion - Age of Unreason / True North
Alkaline Trio - This Addiction
Sum 41 - Screaming Bloody Murder
Anti-Flag - American Fall
Pennywise - All or Nothing
NOFX - Self Entitled
Matt Skiba - Babylon
The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute

Probably not everybody's cup of tea, but I've always thought that people missing out on Bad Religion/Greg Graffin were really doing themselves a disservice. However, I do realize that music provides different things for different people (love, politics, feeling, being cool, jesus, whatever).

I am an old soul when it comes to music, but the 2010’s did have some pretty good albums, a few that stick out off the top of my head...

Kayne - MBDTF
Lorde - Melodrama
Kendrick Lamar - To pimp a butterfly
Adele - 21
Lady Gaga - Born this way
Lana del Rey - Born to Die
Royal Blood - Royal Blood
Mumford & Sons - Sigh no more
Joyner Lucas - ADHD
Tool - Fear Inoculum
Ed Sheehan - X
NF - The search

The 90s are easily my favorite decade for music. Though in my 40s I'm not a big fan of the 80s outside of maybe the nostalgia aspect of hearing music from that time period. I didn't truly start getting into music until the grunge rock bands started getting big.

From the 2010s though. The Black Keys, Foster the People, the Struts maybe, Modest Mouse, Slowdive.

My favorite song of the decade is Star Roving by Slowdive.

My favorite music of the 2010s? Listening to 80s music. Let’s face it, the 2010s was the worst decade for music ever.  Pathetic.

Yup
