With Barbosa possibly gone for a while A.I. is definitely a great pickup right now. We also still need a Big.
-
I've always been against signing Allen Iverson.
And I always will be.
-
Talk about a player that would not fit into a share the ball team.
-
No no no
-
For goodness sake, will you people PLEASE stop bringing up the idea of signing AI - it's an absolutely rediculous idea and I'd rather sign a D leaguer than even consider signing that arrogant, self-obsessed cancer.
Why do people not understand - AI relied ENTIRELY on his athleticism to be effective offensively. The guy is now nearly 40 years old.
A 40 year old AI is about as useful as 6'2" 160lb Shaq.
-
Poor Leandro. Hope he's not gone for the year!!
A.I. is too selfish and delusional. If he got a full attitude adjustment, there's a slim chance he could help physically on the court. Problem is, it's always gonna be about A.I.
-
I say give him a tryout.
-
if we want a guard with an attitude problem I would much rather have delonte west...probably a much better player at this point in time.
and already knows our system offensively/defensively
-
If Iverson needs a job, tell him to get a job as a garbage man. That is where his game is at these days.
-
I would take Iverson if there was a specific clause in his contract... ;)
-

Ditto. Pass on AI
-
or we could just sign jordan.... ::)
-
AI"s job should be at Applebee's because he is not a NBA level player anymore.
-
Iverson needs a job? McDonalds is hiring. send him an application
-
Sounds like an AI problem, not a Celtics problem.
-
I would take AI over Delonte. But since Delonte is the last person I want to sign that isnt saying much.
-
It's time for the C's to sign Iverson,AI want to return and with Doc Kg Pp, Iverson has a great respect for them.
Celtics need as priority a big man and a point guard.
Danny Ainge bring back AI.
AI/Bradley
Courtney/Terry
Pierce/Green
Bass/Wilcox/Kenyon?
KG/Collins/Blatche?
With this roster we are champions.

So now ai is starting over Bradley?
LOL
What are these delusions that this guy who's been out of the league for years and only had offers from the d league can even play, is even in shape and would start over our best perimeter defender when Iverson couldn't even defend in his prime?
absolutely no ..adding 2 guys out of the league, champs!

My freaking God.....champs!
Haha yeah I was amused by this as well. If AI makes us instant champs why havent we (or any other team for the matter) signed him in like 3 years. lol.

ha ha ha...somewhere, in some nightmare, I started to buy into this...(I went from NO NO NO...to hmmmm, maybe? But AI would have to be off the bench, and that woke me up.)
-
OH MY GOD ARE THE IVERSON THREADS EVER GOING TO END!!!!!
I thought the "bring back Antoine" threads were annoying as Toine had clearly lost it all but he was a Celtic for a long time and a certain group of teenagers couldn't let go of the fact that Toine wasn't here during the good times and so always started another "Bring back Antoine" thread.
BUT IVERSON WASN'T EVER A CELTIC. HE WAS A DESPISED RIVAL!!!!
WHY DO THESE THREADS KEEP APPEARING? IVERSON WILL NEVER PLAY BASKETBALL FOR THE BOSTON CELTICS.
I mean isn't fairly obvious Doc and Danny don't like the guy or his game because they have had every opportunity to bring him here since 2009 and hasn't. Not even for a workout.
IVERSON IN GREEN ISN'T HAPPENING.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP WITH THESE THREADS!!!
-
McDonalds might be hiring.
-
AI over Bradley I did't want to say this, AI off the bench, I I'm sure Iverson still can to contribute, naturally he would need a time to be in the correct shape, but right now AI is a great fit, as said Rip Hamilton, at this point 37 years, AI is better than 80% of guards in the league.
-
PG - Iverson / Bradley
SG - Arenas / Terry / Lee
SF - Pierce / Green
PF - Antoine Walker / Karl Malone
C - KG / Wilcox / Bill Russell
DNP (INJ) - Rondo, Sullinger
INACTIVE - Melo
12 man playoff rotation. Banner 18. Guaranteed. Maybe add Tracy McGrady if he can get out of his contract overseas.
Trade Brandon Bass for multiple lottery picks. Buy out Barbosa and Collins.

Pretty sure Hamilton is dead wrong...if he even said that
-
I'm at a loss of words & Celtics bodies. At this point I think I would check in on Allen Iverson & see what his mindset is & how active hes been in the gym. He's still full of pride & feels he's above the D-League & he's a better natural playmaker than Barbosa was so would you guys do it? I'm sure he could score 15-17 in his sleep & if he could dish out 4-5 ast. & get 2 stl. he could be worth the so called trouble. I'm sure he would respect KG & Pierce & they would give it back in return. Plus believe it or not I think it would be good for the league to have Iverson in it good or bad as he is a lightning rod!
-
How much does he has left? Guy is 37. I would bring him in for a tryout
-
he's completely washed up isn't he? I think we'd get more from some random d-leaguer. It's a bummer we lost Barbosa. We were playing great with him.
Even in Iverson's prime he was pretty overrated... very inefficient scorer. He shot like 40% for most of his career. Total ballhog chucker. Never liked him.
-
Now I would give it a try. Didn't like him before when we had a healthy guard squad. Now with just Bradley, Lee, and Terry, it'd be worth examining.
-
Jordan mentioned coming back and playing at 50, should we sign him too?
Enough with the A.I. threads, i loved watching him play 10 yrs ago too, but the guy is done and won't help anything.
-
He's still full of pride & feels he's above the D-League
I don't want to go after anyone who feels this way.

BRING BACK ALLEN IVERSON,Iverson overrated in his prime, please, AI=LEGEND=FUTURE HALL OF FAME.
-
He was pretty bad in his final two seasons, even setting aside his reputation (his season in Detroit and his season between Philadelphia and Memphis.
He's also been out of the league for the last 2 years.
I wouldn't be interested in anybody who hasn't played quality basketball in four years.
-

I'd much rather give a 50 year old Jordan a try than Iverson at 37. AI's game was all based on speed and athleticism, it's all been gone long ago. He's too small, and suffered too many beatings going to the hoop in his time in the NBA to have anything left now.
-

Allen Iverson is a future HOFer.
Not many 6'0" PGs can single-handedly lead his team to the Finals.
As for whether or not to give him a call?
I'd say NO...ONLY BECAUSE - doing such a thing and then..."Gasp", lol...Danny Ainge signing Allen Iverson - would cause CelticsBlog to implode upon itself.
;D
He is, IMO, a divisive character on here.
-
No, just plain no!
-
Can Doc suite up as a player/coach?
In all honesty, I see the reverend finally deciding to come back after Barbosa's injury. He almost came back after the Rondo injury.
-
Iverson was a supreme athlete so I think he could contribute something more than a average D-Leaguer! Look at Terrell Owens, GM's hate on him & don't give him another shot because he's near 40. But he still can't be stopped by 90% of the corners in the league. Should T.O. go to the CFL & waste his body there when he could be getting 900-1100 yards in the NFL? Iverson could score 13pts a game with us off the bench with no problems.

From National Football Post's Dan Pompei:
A front office man points out that one of the reasons Terrell Owens will be moving on to his fourth team in four years this year is he doesn’t always run his route the way he is supposed to and he leaves a lot of gray area for the quarterback. Last year, he led the NFL in most interceptions as a targeted receiver with 12, according to Stats, Inc. What’s more, he has led the league in the category with 43 interceptions over the last five years. And another issue with T.O? He was third in the league in drops last year with 11.
Owens is out of the league because he drops passes and runs bad routes. He is also over the hill.

They guy had close to 100 yds his last full season with then Bengals. Make all the stats up you want about T.O. but how good has the Eagles been after he left I think they were 14-2 & a "superbowl" appearance. What about the Cowboys 13-3 & a Patrick Crayton dropped wide open T.D. that helped the Giants steal that game & eventually beat the Pats in the S.B. the 1st time. SF is barely getting back to prominence years after he left & Dallas still hasn't recovered! look at all the turmoil there they tried to place on T.O., I guess he wasn't the problem huh? But all his teams seems to be in contention I wonder why!

You're talking about games from a long time ago. I said Owens is washed up now, he wasn't washed up in 2004. It's the year 2013. The Bengals, his most recent team, are MUCH better without him. You seem to have trouble understanding that player skills can diminish with age. What Owens did in 2004 with the Eagles has no ability at all on what he can do now. Ditto for Iverson in 2001. We are in 2013. Both guys are out of their respective leagues because they aren't good enough anymore.
Iverson is a Hall of Famer. Owens is a potential Hall of Famer. So are Michael Jordan and Jerry Rice. It's over for all four of them.

This may be true but he definitely wasn't the problem that season. He was probably their lone bright spot being Carson Palmer stunk up the joint & they got a better QB to replace him in Dalton. Put T.O. last year with A.J. Green & they may go to the Super Bowl. They definitely most likely beats Houston in that 1st round.

Not a chance. We're in 2013, not 2004.
Maybe I'm wrong and you're just a better talent evaluator than every NFL and NBA front office, who have access to even more stats and film than you and I.

Your kidding aren't you? T.O. on that Bengals team as 2nd or 3rd receiver wouldn't have propelled them a little higher than they went is crazy thinking. Off the head you probably can't name their 2nd & 3rd WR which is exactly what i'm talking about. It was Green or Bust!

They would've been worse with Owens. He would've dropped passes and caused Dalton's INTs to rise and caused locker room turmoil.
There are 30 NBA front offices. None of them deemed signing Allen Iverson a worthwhile investment.
There are 32 NFL front offices. None of them deemed signing Terrell Owens a worthwhile investment.
What information do you have that these 62 front offices don't have?

And many of us knowledgeable fans who's seen basketball since Bird's rookie year who's over 35+ years of age is happy none of you guys aren't GM's either! If you think Iverson wasn't a great player is asinine. And you should be stripped of your talking basketball card! I've probably forgot more basketball than you'll ever know.

The only information I ever go by is what I see on the field in production! I don't need anything else. Numbers don't lie people do! People do get black balled I hope you do know this.

He's still full of pride & feels he's above the D-League
I don't want to go after anyone who feels this way.
That is the best post I have ever read on these forums, which are filled with lunacy and lack of rationality. So glad none of these ridiculous CB posters are the Celtic's GM
Iverson was a great player. Bird was a great player. Keyword there = "was".
Agreed. An old, retired Iverson or Bird, or Magic, or Sir Charles isn't going to help any NBA team on the court nowadays no matter how great they were.
I'd still give a 50 year old MJ a shot though.

Hell yeah to an AI workout!!!

And the Bengals, his most recent team, are MUCH better without him.
Your kidding aren't you? T.O. on that Bengals team as 2nd or 3rd receiver wouldn't have propelled them a little higher than they went is crazy thinking. Off the head you probably can't name tehir 2nd & 3rd WR which is exactly what im talking about. It was Green or Bust!
They would've been worse with Owens. He would've dropped passes and caused Dalton's INTs to rise and caused locker room turmoil.

I just had to add this! maybe I do know more than most NBA execs. Because I know Jason Collins has no business running up & down a NBA court in uniform for anyone! I do know that!

If Iverson were "black balled", why would an NBA D-League team, owned and operated by the NBA, offer him a job? Offering someone a job is a strange way to black ball them. Millions of unemployed Americans would love to be "black balled" the same way Iverson is.

To insult & Embarrass him! Some people just don't get it. They wanna have him bust his azz only to never ever get another chance no matter how good he does. Just ask Rashard McCants!

Absolutley not. He's widely rumored to be an alcoholic.
-
Cool. Sign him
-
Worst comes to worst, try to bargain a $8 million deal with only $1000 guaranteed and a team option to waive him if we don't win the championship.

We're over the salary cap. We're not signing anyone to a $8 million deal. And why is that a bargain? Why would you outbid his next highest offer by $8 million? That's just poor negotiating.

Sarcasm... maybe a ten-day or two? If he fits, keep 'im

And Barkley during his playing days was rumored to be the meanest guy in the NBA. As you clearly see now its so far from the truth. Don't believe in rumors! Because someone see's a guy in a club having drinks doesn't mean anything unless you go home & live with that person & see for yourself.

He's not signing a 10 day contract. Unless that was sarcasm too.

Is this a joke post?

I think he would sign a 10 day because he has enough belief in himself to make that 10 day permanent! Plus its not the DL & he would be proving himself amongst other NBA players as in the shot he is looking for. PTI Wilbon was talking about Iverson earlier as he just wants a shot.
-
Not just NO but HECK NO!
Older than dirt and can't even make a DL team, he is shot and done.
-
I hear Bob Cousy is a free agent.
-
I absolutely would sign AI for the rest of the season. Not that he and Barbosa are identical players, but they both provide that energy off the bench and AI knows what it takes to succeed.
There is no guarantee that he will be amazing, but why not give him a shot. When he was terrible during his last stint in the NBA, he wasn't playing for a top-flight franchise like the Celtics. I think he would take his opportunity with us very seriously.
And I couldn't care less that he wouldn't play in the D-League. Frankly, he is above it and he shouldn't waste his body playing there when he doesn't need to.

Ainge brought him in last week through the good word & graces of Tom Heinsohn, but he couldn't pass the physical so Ainge had to look elsewhere. lol

Gave you a TP because it is exactly what I said! It is beneath him to rot out there & he is above it due to his former accomplishments as a ELITE NBA player.

Too small for our needs.

TP to you, too. I guess the end of my post does resemble yours quite a bit...hopefully AI gets one more chance, either with us or someone else.

I guess it's been a while since we've had an Allen Iverson thread ::)

The problem with Cooz is that he's a ball hog who is always looking to pad his assist stats, and he can't shoot from the perimeter. Plus, he's arrogant, surly, and cocky.

I say we bring in Michael Jordan. Antawn Jamison just said he thinks he could still play so lets just bring him in for a workout.
