I can’t see a reason why C’s won’t sign him. The dude will easily earn back his paycheck from fan interest alone. He doesn’t need to play a single minute, he’s a revenue generating asset

Not true. The initial fan response and subsequent jersey sales will end once Tacko isn't being seen on the team. Spending all his time in Maine and getting no playing time on the big league team will plummet those sales to nothing. No player seen, no jersey sales for him.

The kid has to earn his way on the team with his talent, not because he can sell a small bit of merch.

Tacko should make the Celtics roster.

He should also get meaningful minutes.  Kanter is a liability on defense, is slow and brings some baggage.  Poirer and Theis are journeymen.  Tacko is already better than Time Lord.

Tacko already has star power.

Tacko is one of the few reasons I will watch the Celtics at all this year.

The game is getting stale with its 3 point shooting.

How can they not keep him? They had him making appearances all summer long.

I saw footage on TV & the Celtics site where he:

- Was at Canobie Lake Park with a foster kids at summer camp
- Opening ceremonies & playing with kids at a Celtics court
- At a Patriots game on the sidelines before a game, press pics snapping

Would be bad form to use him as the posterboy of your team for 3 months and then cut him

Good form or not, I doubt he makes the roster.  He doesn't have very good basketball skills and his motor is suspect.  After all this time, his best asset is still his height.  That can be game-planned against by matching him up with an outside shooting big to bring him out of the paint.

How do you gameplan against that on the offensive end?

I mean with his height he doesn't need to be very skilled to survive in the NBA. There's a bit of value as a ~10 minute change of pace C, and the Celtics would do well to stash one if he impresses in preseason.

As much as Taco is a good person, and is certainly a freak of nature being 7 foot 7 and all, strength has a part in every sport. I was shocked to hear that Taco couldn't even bench press the bar in workouts. I understand that having arms that long presents a disadvantage. But still, how he'll move a Lebron and other more balanced bigs around in the paint in an NBA game is a mystery.

I think a lot of posters, especially those that feel the only reason to watch the Celtics will be Tacko, are going to be extremely disappointed when he either:

1. Doesn't make the team.
2. Doesn't make the team but ends up in Maine where he plays all year under Celtic supervision
3. Makes the team but spends the entire year in Maine and never or almost never gets minutes on the big club.

The coaches and front office have already said he is a massive project. Massive projects don't get much if any playing time in their first year on a club and Tacko hasn't even secured a roster spot yet.

My suggestion is to temper expectations. This team might be rebuilding, but they aren't tanking and this team would need to be tanking hard to give Tacko any meaningful time this year.

I rather see him play in Maine all season to develop his game more than just sitting on the end of the bench for Boston
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Right or wrong, this article states the the Lakers would grab Tacko if he went to the G league.

https://lasportshub.com/2019/08/21/los-angeles-lakers-tacko-fall-la/

If he does go to the G league and stay with the Celtics, Maine might be more fun to watch than Boston.

Per Nicole Yang, “Tacko’s a force of nature,” [Pagliuca] said. “He’s a very gentle soul. He’s had a great team effect already. Everybody’s rooting for Tacko. It’s going to be great to see him play.”

A gentle soul....that sounds better than a political activist like Kanter.

Agreed. I do think that he's worth holding on to though, whether it's stashing him in G-League or keeping him on the roster.
