Jojo White last year and now Hondo. Rest in Peace

Yeah, this was my childhood.   Jojo and Hondo, 2 huge pieces of C’s championships during my high school years. Havlicek was such a great all-around player. Best sixth man with Russell but then the Paul Pierce of the great 70’s teams.  Also seemed to be a good guy.  Sad to hear this news.

My childhood idol. Loved him, Cowens and Jo Jo. They were the players I wanted to be when playing ball before Bird showed up.

Hondo is one of the best of all time. He will be sorely missed.

RIP Hondo.

Double whammy...a former Buckeye great and a Celtic. Sad day.

To quote Red Auerbach - “Many know John just as a basketball player, I’m lucky to know him as a human being. If I had a son and he was like John, I’d be the happiest man in the world.”

The scoring record will stand for a long long time, but the impact he had on this franchise is eternal. RIP John.

RIP.  It'd be cool if the C's did a tribute video.  Maybe next home game?

Havlichek was a perpetual motion machine. He was always moving on the court, I have never seen anyone like him.
Maybe the best ever at moving without the ball - the guy never got tired.  He wasn't flashy but he had all the tools.  Red and Tommy built a really nice team in the early 70's with him, Cowens and Jo Jo as the cornerstones.  And as Tommy has preached on air for years - they ran - and (again as Tommy always talks about) they went petal to the metal in the 4Q and blew out a lot of teams.  It's a lot easier to do that when your star player seemingly can run all day.

Havlicek gets overlooked by many - probably because he was a low key guy and his game never made you say 'wow' but he was a terrific all around player - and one of the all time greats.  I'm not sure where I'd put him in Celtics history but if you put an all time C's team together he'd be getting lots of minutes.

I  remember an opponent commenting that he had to have three lungs to run as much as he did

The Havlicek moment I remember the most was attending the famous 1976 finals game with Phoenix when he banked in a shot supposedly to win the game and had to be called back when it was determined there was still time left....Garfield Heard then nailed a 40 footer to tie the game (thank goodness there was no three point rule then)...the C's won in 3 ot's, but the image of Havlicek "winning" the game and running to the locker is forever etched in my mind

I can't imagine how they couldn't.  He won the Finals MVP against Milwaukee.
