Title: CelticsStrong fundraiser (new CelticsBlog Forum): Please Help!
Post by: byennie on September 17, 2018, 04:47:34 AM
UPDATES

Original Post

Official campaign is here:
https://www.gofundme.com/keep-celticsblog-forum-alive

Many thanks to everyone that has helped make this almost a reality. By the end of the month, these forums will be moving to a new site, CelticsStrong.com.

It will be operated by Fanstreme, a partnership between myself and my business partner Earl Cole. Earl is a huge NBA fan from Kansas City who recently worked for the LA Clippers. If you're a Survivor fan, the name may sound familiar. Most importantly he's passionate about basketball and will be helping take the site to the next level.

Me, I'm a lifelong Boston sports fan and forum member here. I grew up watching the Sox on TV 38, saw potential in Marcus Banks and Kedrick Brown for WAYYY too long, and consider this "little" forum one of the best corners of the Internet, bar none.

Our top priority is to keep the forums alive for the 2018-19 season and beyond, but, we're starting with $0 budget and some work to do. We're working hard to fix problems like the email system and site reliability while also bringing some nice additions. Server expenses don't look tooo huge, but short term they are coming out of our own pockets in addition to the work involved.

All that said: we could use your support making the move.

Please feel free to ask me anything here. There are a few more details on the GoFundMe page and I aim to be as transparent as possible during the transition.

Every little bit helps. The forums will remain free for everyone, but if it's something you feel you'd pay to use/ keep alive, this is the time!

THANK YOU CBloggers,
Brian Yennie / @yennieb

Massive thanks to you and the others who have put in so much work for the transition! If I could give 1000 TP's I would ;D

I'll try and get around to donating shortly, and I have no doubt the generosity of CelticsBlog will shine through!

p.s. picking Kedrick Brown ahead of Richard Jefferson and Troy Murphy still infuriates me

Awesome! Thanks for all of your guys’ work on keeping this community alive. I wish I could’ve helped with the process, but my skillset is limited in the technical/business domains.

Will do what I can with a donation. I know watching the C’s wouldn’t be the same without our robust game threads!

Someone may want to permanently pin a message for this funding campaign.

Seems like you can't enter your username twice as I did and have it come up, so I'm showing up as having donated as Anonymous at GoFundMe.

Unfortunately, Greek cards are often treated with suspicion abroad, for obv reasons.

The $33 and $34 are a nice touch too, let's just stay away from the Robert Parish =)??

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Inspiring beyond the dollars!

A follow-up announcement: we're going live on https://celticsstrong.com this Friday the 21st.

Downtime should be minimal, maybe a couple hours (I know, withdrawal, I'll try to work fast!). All of your accounts will work on the new site and there will be a redirect from here for as long as possible. We'll pick up some new discussions on the other side about the future of the site, but in general it will be the same forum you knew and loved before the change.

Cheers and TPs all around.

Hah, yeah I would have but I had to move back to Boston to take care of my very ill parents. But if we are going to have a Xmas party in Florida on a beach in a tiki bar, I know a fantastic spot on St. Pete Beach.

My fiance asked me one time, "How do you know so much about everything?"  First, she's far from correct on that assessment of me, but by "everything", she was referring to Israel/Palestine history and relations, SCOTUS cases and judges, net neutrality, 2nd amendment/guns perspectives, foreign affairs, US federal taxation, etc.

My response to her was: "Celticsblog"

You can maybe imagine her reaction was laughing in disbelief.  I told her I was serious and I had to physically show her the threads of in-depth, intelligent, (mostly) respectful discussion on these topics to prove this to her.  She was pretty shocked to see it.

This site community is a true gem.  For somebody like me who is a die-hard basketball fan, loves the Celtics, and loves to hear perspectives from all sides of arguments on current events, this place has been a blessing for me.  Makes me really appreciate what a gift the internet is and appreciate even more all the hard work that so many people have put in to build up and maintain this wonderful community.

I'm stoked that this community is not going to disappear and am happy to contribute an Eddie House to its continuation.  I'd be missing a lot without it.

Don't worry about us meeting the goal. If we go over, the money will all be reinvested into the site and help us keep the site up until it becomes self reliant.

I am guessing at some point we might have to look at advertising but that will be up to others to decide.

I'm leaving this one for Redz.

33 + 18 + 14 + 6 = 71, so it's not numbers of Celtics league MVPs.

I'm stumped, too.

74 regular season wins this year, beating the Warriors record, on route to banner 18?

Like some others have said, long time lurker here (since the C's drafted Ryan Gomes the same year I graduated from Providence College).  Thanks to all who've had a hand in keeping this community alive.

It's not much, but I was happy to do my part and donate a Rondo.

The season wouldn't be the same without the forums to read through, and it's gonna be a great season to be a Celtics fan!

I cheated and asked!

You’re on the right track.

I told him he should have multiplied instead of added, but 74 beans is still a nice chunk of change for the CelticsStrong kitty.

The name is growing on me btw.

Just visited my bank. Unfortunately, I can't donate and there is nothing I can do about it.

After capital controls were imposed on Greece, there is a number of sites that won't accept any Greek card for payments. Gofundme is one of them.

Very disappointed.

I've always said that people would donate (those able) in this current forum as is for better performance, looks like this is proving that idea right.

What's left to see is how recurrent funds like that can become (or monetized through ads) to have a good performing forum.

But looking good so far. =)

Day 2 Update

Thanks to all our generous donors, we've passed our original goal of $1500. In light of the great support, we're thinking big! By this time Friday, we'll be about to go live on the new site.

1. If we reach $2500, we will be raffling off Celtics tickets. Approximate value $200. 1 entry for every dollar donated! If you're out of the country or can't attend, we'll supply a comparable prize.

2. The wheels are churning on new features. Currently we're talking with potential partners for live scores and widgets to take our game threads and discussions to the next level! Also forum mods to support things like Facebook login, new editing capabilities and other enhancements to modernize the site.

3. Think Community! CelticsStrong will be more than just a forum, it's a tight knit community of Boston fans who talk everything from Celtics to Sox to politics. Keep an eye out for new community meetups, member profiles and other ways to engage with the group.

THANK YOU THANK YOU to all of our supporters and let's keep it rolling. Spread the word and stay Celtics Strong!

Just made a donation...glad to see the efforts being made here.

I've, for the most part, been a lurker around the forums; it's always been good to read others' thoughts about the game, random topics, anything really. I've been here since 2007; I still remember where I was when I first registered...It was my senior year of undergrad and I was sitting in the university library...time flies. Let's keep it moving.

Happy to donate to the cause and get us closer to the ticket raffle.

Love the ideas for imrovements. Cant wait to see the new site.

Gonna want some T-Shirt options with super cool designs. Maybe we can run a contest for best tshirt designs.

I am a profesional musician and artist and would be honored to provide some original music if ever needed for the site.

Go Celtics! Its gonna be an amazing ride...

I feel like I should have pointed this out earlier, but the 15% tip to gofundme is entirely optional. If you choose "other" you can set it to zero. Not that there is anything wrong with tipping gofundme, but something useful to know in case you want the full donation to go to CelticsStrong.

I have to say that this thread has made me incredibly happy and proud.  It’s been a stressful time and I’ve been powering through with positivity. This thread and the motivation to keep something we love alive is some crazy positive stuff.

I think the idea of forbidding profanity is to make the blog accessible to all ages.

This might seem awkward at a time when 12yos can read and write the most vulgar things on reddit, and get access to ****hub with their mobiles, but it's I kind of awkwardness I can stand behind.

To add to that, FLCF still posts every game thread on celticsgreen, a small Celtics message board that a handful of us have been using for the last 15+ years.  She's an icon in the Celtics online community.  Three cheers for FLCF!

I happily chipped in and would like to thank all of those who have spent so much time and effort to set up the new site.  I will miss CelticsBlog but am thrilled that we can keep this amazing community together.  Thank you to all of the posters for the entertainment, discussion and knowledge over the years!

If rhee was a one-time option to change user name on the new site that would be pretty great. Some of us chose a name we might regret now...

My sign in name is still: redzdeadbabyredzdead

Which was intended to be a take on a Pulp Fiction line about Zed's Dead, but then I realized it looked like dead babies and no one probably got the reference to Pulp Fiction.

Is there a way I can donate through PayPal?  I want to contribute, but that is my preferred method.

Hey Wil!

If you want to send me PayPal I can do it for you.  Henways38@gmail.com

There is no option for using it directly though

Done!  Thanks, Redz!  And I always wondered if that was a Pulp Fiction reference.

Man, try to catch a few hours of sleep over here and y'all go and push it over $2500!

Amazing. Very grateful and inspired.

Shooting for 3PM changeover today. Please pray to the software gods and bear with us as we work out any kinks, but so far so good with our tests. Even received a working email notification on the other side =).

Note that today will be bare bones/ keep things running but we plan some updates over the coming week(s) to the new website.

so, when the change over happens, we link to the new site from here?

next, do we simply log in as we would here?

this is exciting, many thanks to you byennie and everyone else.

I think it might have been a little too subtle  ;)
Back when I started with that name my attitude about blogs was pretty much that I wanted to stay anonymous and maybe not let much of my true personality show through, so having a potentially insulting name was no biggy.  As I got more involved with CB I realized I was indeed developing a distinct personality on here that was true to who I am.  When they asked me to be a Mod we decided it was best to shorten the name to Redz, but I still have to log in under the old name.

Anyhow...Donation on your behalf is all set.

I made it a "Jae Crowder" donation so I could throw a buck at GoFundMe...Or a "Triple Larry" if you prefer.

avatars never really went away.  They just need to be certain dimensions... like 65x65 pixels... and then just upload it to somewhere like Imgur.  Just go into your settings, select "specify avatar by URL" and plug in http://i.imgur.com/SPGKYBD.jpg

You can also try this one which is 57x80 dimensions (the same size bdm860 is using for his avatar):  http://i.imgur.com/qYisapC.jpg

Yeah, I could have done all that a while ago but was just too lazy. But thanks LB. Really appreciate it. I think byennie said currently he is working on the avatar, you tube embedding a couple of other issues so when he is done, my girl is going back up.

I can definitely fit those adjectives.  Though I’m not down with the murder and torcher as much as the Captain and Company.
