In 4 years when Kemba Walker’s contract is up I can’t see Celtics renewing it as he’ll be 33 and contrary to belief he isn’t 6’1, he along with Chris Paul is around 5’11. Given his age, height, salary requirement and that he’s never been an defensive anchor Celtics should be looking to someone else long term.

I know it’s presumptuous to be talking about something years from now but given it’s the quiet part of the season I thought it’d be a worthwhile talking point.

I’m not sure why this would be a concern, but I wouldn’t sleep on Edwards being able to step in.

I also don’t think Kemba will go anywhere when this contract ends.

Sorry I just can’t see Edwards as a high level starting point guard but more as a Lou Williams, instant offence 6th man. Edwards isn’t a playmaker nor is he a particularly good defender.

I love Kemba but when has a team won a championship with a 33 year old, under 6 foot point guard who isn’t an elite defender?

Planning ahead 4 years when contracts are generally 3-4 years is an impossibility.

Season hasn't even started and we're worrying about 4 years from now?

You asked the question. Edwards is the obvious answer. If you think he's a finished product that's on you.

Kemba is the exact same height as Kyle Lowry, who was 33 in March.

Who is saying Kemba will even be our starting guard by then? Planning this far ahead is a complete exercise in futility

In 15 years Jayson tatum will be 36 and likely asking for more money than he’s worth. Who will replace him at the forward position?

In 2015, the Memphis Grizzlies fans had the same dilemma.  They had just finished 55-27 and were a contender in the West.  But their starting point guard was 27 years old at the time and their fans were concerned that in 4 years the Grizzlies should be looking for someone else long term.  Luckily, a fan posted a youtube video of 16-year-old Ja Morant and then they rested easy having it all figured out.

Carsen Edwards? He's really good, and I think he'll be a high level gunner for years to come.

NBA players keep getting taller. Whoever replaces him will likely be at least 6'4".

They really haven't, it's just the 2 inch (or more) boost from shoes that makes players nowadays seem taller on paper. Check out photos of Wilt and Russell standing next to more "modern" centers-they're right there height wise or taller.

Edwards isn't too undersized as a PG-he's only an inch or two shorter than the average PG (6'0 or 6'1 to 6'2.5) with a way longer wingspan (6'6 to 6'3 or 6'4 iirc). Think his strength and quickness more than makes up for the height disadvantage without even factoring in the wingspan advantage.

Seriously, the answer could very well be some kid who’s currently entering his junior year of hig school.   ::)
