Man United's looking pretty good at the moment. Two games on hand and still on top of the standings. Chelsea is just completely losing it.

Agreed, people were quick to write them off at the beginning of the year.

i watched their last game and they looked impressive.

What "bothers" me is that rarely the team that tops the leagus in Christmas goes all the way. MU has won 11 titles and was in the first place durign Christmas 3 times ....

Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov have been in wonderful form recently. Their link up play has been smashing over the past few weeks. The passing, the through balls, the spacing. They've been picking teams apart.

Rooney now has 9 assists in the league and Berbatov leads the league with 17 goals.

Manchester United are rolling right now.

This team is against all logic
Every season the roster gets poorer and poorer and yet MU remains at the highest level.

The passing that lead to the 3rd goal yesterday reminded me off their best moments with Cantona. I really hope they can keep it up and win the league unbeaten. I also hope that Wayne will eventually start scoring again :D :D :D :D :D

BTW Berbatov has already broken his league scoring record. If he isn`t on fire, who is ???

Almost 5am and I'm staying up to catch up with the last minute transfers. Hoping my first love, and NESV's newly acquired Liverpool can keep Torres and maybe get couple more decent players.

Wow, Liverpool just agreed a £35 million deal for Andy Carroll.

I presume that means they must have agreed a deal to sell Fernando Torres to Chelsea then. Great news!

Their £25 million offer was rejected. Newcastle asked for $10 million more.

About 10 minutes ago, it was on the BBC website news that they had Liverpool had made the offer and Newcastle have accepted it.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/31/andy-carroll-liverpool-newcastle-transfer

Quote
Newcastle United have accepted Liverpool's £35m bid for Andy Carroll, a British record transfer fee that could pave the way for Fernando Torres to complete his move to Chelsea before tonight's transfer deadline.

"Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United had accepted a club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll," said a statement on Liverpool's website.

"The club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical."

Update: It is on the Liverpool website now.

Terrific prospect but he hasn't accomplished much yet.

Paying an awful lot for potential. Big risk.

David Luiz and Fernando Torres are both on their way to London to have their medicals now.

It looks like both deals are going to go through. Fantastic additions for Chelsea.

Luiz will go a long way to shoring up Chelsea's recently vulnerable defense. And the Torres and Drogba partnership, wow, I am giddy. I can't wait to see those two play alongside one another terrifying opposing defenses.

Edit: Not enough time for Luiz to travel to London. Did medical and finishing details of contract from Portugal.

Paying £35 million for Andy Carroll is a massive risk but I think he'll come good and be worth the money at the end of the day.

Looking forward to seeing him and Luis Suarez play together. Liverpool still need to add some more creativity in midfield though. Those strikers need more service.

Interesting fact -- English clubs have spent around £210 million this transfer window compared to only £29 million this time last year. Wow.

Can't believe the deal for Luiz is back on ??? Even if it does go through, no more deals with Benfica ever again after that. Mucked us around no end with Ramires and again now with Luiz.

As for Torres, hmmmm. I actually think this is the best thing that Liverpool could do. I think they'll go better with a few £15-20 million players instead of the one £50 million player. Really uncertain what he'll do for Chelsea, his injury history is of course a concern. Not expecting anything much from him this season anyway.

I'm as happy as a kid who got the toy he wanted for Christmas but without the batteries.

Really like Andy Carroll, and the price tag is that because he is young and English (always pay a premium for those), really liked Suarez in the world cup, too.

The proverbial batteries would have been Charlie Adam, who would have done much to help with the creativity others have mentioned. Especially since he's left footed, something which we lack.

We defo should have splashed for Stephen Warnock as well (no idea why we let him or Adam Hammill go in the first place, one is a proven left back and the other is fast becoming one of the most exciting players in England), and maybe Ashley Young (though I'd prefer to get Arda Turan in the summer).

Regarding Torres, heh, if he doesn't want to play for us, then he can go, what I didn't like is the shirt burning, and I live in Cleveland, so I've seen it all before.

Good day for both Chelski and Liverpool. Not so much for Newcastle. They made it out with 35 million, but if history teaches us anything about their owner is that the money isn't going to get reinvested into the club.
