“I think the legacy I left for the game is there. But who is it to decide? Who is making the decisions? What do they base it off of? If you look at all the numbers, to me, I should be a shoo-in. Should I not?” Marion asked. “What am I supposed to do? What am I not supposed to do? It’s out of my control. I know it’s a political thing. It’s a lot more other stuff going on. But certain things, you earn that. I earned that.”

Do you agree? I know that the Hall of Fame standards have been lowered, but to me, being selected as an all-star four out of 16 seasons just isn’t a very compelling case.  He had a magnificent peak as a two-way player, but his greatness just wasn’t sustained long enough in my opinion.

Shawn, you were a solid NBA player, but you're not even within shouting distance of Hall of Fame consideration.

BBall reference’s hall of fame predictor has him at 75.6%, right in between hall of famers Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman. I’m not buying it. 4 all star appearances, 2 all nba teams, and 1 title as a role player doesn’t do it for me.

He was an extremely valuable player, but I'm not sold.
IMO if Toni Kukoč, a guy who won everything that could be won multiple times isn't in, than Marion shouldn't be in.

Definitely the Fantasy Basketball HOF - he was ranked #1 on multiple occasions and was one of the best 9-category players for a generation of fantasy bball players.

But, I am going to go with 'no' on the HOF located in Springfield, MA. I mean, he was really good, but he had more of an Antoine Walker-like career than Paul Pierce (in terms of Cs comparisons/impact), and there has to be a cut-off somewhere.

I think his accolades underrate him - his prime (that 5ish year stretch) had him oscillating between All-Star and All-NBA level imo (basically top 20-25ish player). Add some strong pre and post-prime years to that sort of peak as well as the significance of him playing a big role on an innovative Suns team and I think he has a case for HoF. Maybe not a strong one, but it's not as weak as most fans would like to believe imo.

Of course he should be in the HOF - his Jump shot is infamous.

Seriously though, his Phoenix years were really good, and being probably the 3rd most important player on that 2011 Dallas squad makes it an interesting case.

But this is like the 3rd or 4th time since he’s retired I’ve heard him try to verbally defend his legacy. The guys seems really insecure.

To be fair people just don't appreciate elite defensive wings who bring some but still limited offensive skills to the table enough - fans drool all over them once they reach the next level offensively (eg. Kawhi, George), but they don't really show enough love to wings who aren't quite on that level offensively but are as good as or even better defensively. But yes he does sound a bit insecure with his statements.

Better version of Bobby Jones.

Deserves to be in the HoF.

Marion's defense & rebounding were exceptional for a combo forward. Amongst the best ever (defender/rebounders) at combo forward. His offense was solid ... but the defense & rebounding is what really set him apart from the rest.

Played a vital role on those Nash-led Suns teams of the 00s. One of the most entertaining teams of the last 20 years and a highly successful one as well. Played a good role on a title team in Dallas in one of the most unlikely Championship runs in last 40 years.

I definitely have Marion in. I'd be shocked and saddened to see him be overlooked for the HoF.
