Bos sends: PP + Sheed
Dal sends: Howard + Dampier( non guaranteed for 2010)+1st

I know Boston doesn't get much in return. They get a mid to late 20's pick and they get Howard who they could use in a sign and trade ( I doubt they would resign him). They also clear about 26 mil in salary next year

So the C's roster this off- season would look like this

PG: Rondo
SG: Daniels   / Walker
SF: _______
PF: KG      / BBD
 C: Perk

That would be about 38 mil for those 6 players. The cap for next year will likely be 52-55 mil so the C's would have 14-17 mil in cap space.

We could easily add a top free agent and put some youth back on the roster

Possible 2010-2011 Rosters

PG: Rondo
SG: Joe Johnson, Dwayne Wade(doubt it)
SF: Daniels
PF: KG
 C: Perk

or

PG: Rondo
SG: Pick or Role player FA
SF: Daniels
PF: Boozer or Stoudamire or Bosh / KG
 C: Perk

For Dallas

This is their shot at a ring. By adding PP and Sheed they don't have many holes. PP becomes the 2nd scorer to Dirk. Wallace provides low post defense.

PP and Sheed's contracts aren't longer than 2 years so they wouldnt tie yp Dallas's future to much.

PG: Kidd   / JJ Barea
SG: Terry  / Carroll
SF: PP     / Marion
PF: Dirk   / Gooden
 C: Sheed  / Buyout

That team can contend for a title I think.

What do you think ?

You know whats craziest about this idea? The fact that you have Joe Johnson listed before Dwayne Wade.

only because I think he would be the more realistic option .

If we want JJ so bad we should try for him now with Pierce because he will likely be leaving ATL this summer. I think some of his quotes about the arena are warning signs.

it's a discussion i've been having with friends.  people keep saying trade ray, well, let's trade paul, let ray's contract come off the books, and push forward!

KG + Rondo + Perk + BBD + Walker = $36.16 million
Draft pick + empty roster spot charges = roughly $3.85 million
Total = $40 million

Cap = $52-54 million
Cap Space = $12-14 million = not enough for a max contract ($16.57 million)

I agree.
I think if we want to rebuild through free agency, we would have to trade Pierce before Ray.

Itīs really simple: the reason why people say Ray is our best trading chip is because his contract is valuable for those teams who want to go under the cap, ergo he could be valuable to us if we want to be players in free agency.

However, I donīt think the Celtics are willing to simply give this season away, and to trade Pierce for a mediocre player with an expiring contract would mean exactly that.

By the way, if we trade Pierce, I think we could do better than the proposed trade in the first post. Trade with the Jazz or the Clippers, and get their extra Draft Picks, or basically to any team that is willing to throw an interesting, young prospect on a rookie contract into the mix...and I`m not talking about Yi Jianlian!
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

(1) Trade Glen Davis and get the cap space up to $14.5-to-$16.5 million. That would work so long as we get a higher cap figure.

(2) Trade Perk and get the cap space up to $17-19 million. Guaranteed flexibility for a max contract.

I think the Mavs would need Perkins involved to make this deal anyway. Their big man rotation is just too soft to compete for a title without acquiring another center.

If the Celtics did trade Pierce + Perk + Sheed ...

What top free agent would want to join the Celtics? An All-Star point guard in Rajon Rondo + an aging star in Garnett?

Not exactly a great selling point to prospective free agents.

I don't think the Celtics could manage to pry away LeBron, Wade or Bosh. Doubtful that they could get Joe Johnson, only hope of that would be Atlanta refusing to give him a max contract. Fair chance that the Celtics could get Amare Stoudemire though.

No MLE if they used their cap space. Just minimum contracts from thereon in.

well if they traded perk sheed and PP they would have room for a max level and MLE , but just PP and sheed they could only do minimum contracts along with a max.

Bi-annual? LLE? Anything?

Roy Hobbs?

  • Rondo = Good

Anybody else ready to see Danny break up the team for cap space and watch the best FAs sign with other teams?

  I'm not.

Agreed.

Rebuilding or not, we're not going to get great guys in free agency.  That's not how this team is going to rise back to prominence.

So blowing it up with the aim of becoming players in the free agent gold rush is not going to work.

Crazy we are even thinking of blowing this thing up by trading Pierce & Perk with NO garuantees of netting any superstar in 2010. Then we would probably waste money on a fringe superstar & have to overpay him just to stay semi-competitive. This is by far the worst trade scenario I have heard yet! Honestly our team is ok, we just have a bunch of guys who are tired of winning meaningless regular season games, so they are not getting up for the showcase games like they did in 08 & at the beginning of last yr. like they did before KG's injury. They realize that the only thing that matters is the 2010 playoffs!

How about we REALLY blow it up:

KG to Cleveland for Ilgauskas and a S&T Wally and a pick at about 4 million for the rest of this year (he's still a UFA and Cleveland has bird rights). We'd even buy out ilgauskas for them. How does Cleveland say no?

AND

Pierce and Sheed to either Houston for T-Mac and a pick or to Dallas for Howard/Dampier.

Boom. 3 players under roster: 3 mil Davis, 4.9 for Perk and 9.1 for Rondo. First round pick holds, what, 1.5? then it's 500k per empty spot up to 12? so say we end up with our own pick and one other. so that's 3 mil + 3.5 for the roster spots, plus 3 + 4.9 + 9.1, is 23.5. That leaves probably 30 million; would Bron and Bosh split that? if not, just deal Davis for an expiring, i bet that would be easy enough. So say that happens...would Bron and Bosh be able to say no to Max Contracts to play in Boston (Legacy alert! we know they care about image and history!) with Rondo and Perk?

Roster:
Rondo/Vet that wants to play with Bron and Bosh
#15-18 pick (we'd suck the rest of the way this year)/Vet min
Bron/#29 pick from cleveland
Bosh/min
Perk/min
