Did anyone see trouble 07 do good work in the rising stars game? Brown had a nice stat line
I didn't get a chance to see how pierce did in the celeb game
-
Its all exhibition with no D whatsoever...
Jaylen was able to score at will because of it...trouble happens when somebody guards him..he becomes limited and becomes Jeff Green 2.0 .

Gosh! Jeff Green has become a catch all for criticism of all athletic SF/PF types on this forum.

It's weird, right? The funny thing is, I would love to have Jeff Green on this year's team coming off the bench. He has certainly been effective in that role with the Cavs - probably a reason they weren't even worse before the big trade.
-
Great game by Brown and Tatum did pretty well, too. If we were basing it just on style, Team USA wins in a landslide with some really fun dunks (especially by Jaylen); however, Bogdan and Team World just took and made a million 3s.
Still exciting to see two of our prized young guys in the game - too bad the team as a whole got destroyed.
-
Horford is in the skills challenge, which is the only legit competition left in ASG weekend.

Personally I wish Brown had brought his A game or even his B game vs the Clippers Wednesday. They'd have won. No defense exhibitions don't count.

Personally I would be for cancelling all star games period. The only one that's ever any decent is when MLS brings in a top European club to play their all stars. Usually you get an interesting match. With the other sports the players make too much money, no one wants to get hurt (understandably) and to me its just not interesting.
The only solution I could offer for the NBA is maybe you play the game to kick off the next season. Guys are trying to get into game shape so it might encourage them to try a little.

Jaylen Brown rose up for sure! 35 points and a spectacular series of dunks. Brown had his way and really showcased his athleticism.
Brown plays with a lot more fire in his belly than Green ever did. I think the comparisons stop at the athleticism. Brown's mentality is superior. He's constantly wanting to improve and the sky is still the limit for this kid.
https://youtu.be/EqaGca7JhnU
I don't see how you can't be high on JB's showing against his peers!

It's easy to look great in basketball when the opponent plays no defense. Brown has really struggled recently. His handle is weak and his hands aren't all that great. Plus he struggles making FT's. He's got a long way to go.

TP, loved the highlights! He looked super silky on those shots and dunks. I for one, think he is only get better and better each year. Exciting stuff! How he has transformed his shot in a year is really amazing and bodes well for continuous evolving of his game.

There was a time when Brown's handle wasn't that good but that time is not now. He has improved his handles immensely this year. He isn't just a straight line driver to the basket as he has incorporated twists, euro steps and stops and starts in his drives all while lowering his TO% to a very good 11.9 while increasing his usage percentage. Brown's handle is pretty good right now.
-
I think we undervalue Brown. Seldom you see the player primarily guarded by Brown go off for a big scoring night. Even when he isn't playing great, his defense is always there. You can't say the same for Rozier or Tatum.
And as Nickagneta pointed out Brown is definetely improving his game. Last year he was so raw and just a back-up for Jae Crowder. People who said that he might be able to replace Crowder in the starting line-up were considered overly optimistic.
There are three guys from the 2016 draft who are for sure on their way to become All Stars and they are Ben Simmons, Jaylen Brown and Jamal Murray.
-
It was an okay exhibition. Liked how it started off more than how it ended. Lots of nice dunks by team USA. Team world had better passing and 3pt shooting.
-
How could you leave Jalyen off the dunk contest this year? I mean he has had some many highlight dunks during the year, with some complete posters of a number of guys. After watching the Jaylen highlights of the rising stars game, I think the NBA really missed the boat not including him.

He's definitely improving, I'm not disputing that. Problem is they need more consistency out of him - because Hayward's out and the team struggles to score - and he's just not delivering it. I thought he stunk Wednesday and that was a very winnable game.
He can hit the corner 3 and his game is getting to the basket, which is needed - but he gets himself in trouble on dribble penetration far too often. I'm not saying get rid of him, I'm just saying let's not anoint him quite yet. I'd trade the spectacular for a little more consistency.
-
I still don't quite understand how Joe Ingles is not in the three-point shooting contest. He's literally one of the two or three best shooters in the game.

This times like 1000. People need to.update their scouting reports on Brown. Hid handle could still get better, but saying he has none us factually wrong.

I don't understand either. Not that I care, though. No interest in All Star weekend.
Now I can fully concentrate my attention to the Olympics.

I’m not even sure they compare athletically. Brown seems to have a lot better agility and body control, whereas Green was good with a head of steam in straight line drives, and had trouble with lateral movement.
-
The skills challenge is the only consistently fun event during All Star weekend. The other events always have their good years and bad ones, but I've dug the skill challenge ever since they moved to this bigs vs smalls thing.
Too bad Horford couldn't nail that three though.
-
Horford got beat by embiid. Sucks
-
This dunk contest is going to be good.
-
Typical Raptor choking in the spotlight when it matters. ;D

Kyries shoe laces have the year of every Celtics championship on them
-
was Dennis Scott deliberately not calling Devin Booker the JBL 3-pt competition champion/winner. He did it twice. Is the NBA against calling the victors winners?
Scott said twice.. give it up for the 2018 JBL 3 point contest, and he pointed at Booker.

More evidence along with waiving his trade kicker and telling Hayward that he needs to take care of himself because he is needed for years to come that I think Kyrie has bought into Boston long term. He ain't going anywhere after next year.
-
They made Russell stand up for some meaningless thing. I don't think he can stand very long on his own anymore. Sad

There were a couple of creative dunks in this contest. Mediocre overall.
I guess you just don't get showdowns like the Lavine-Gordon contest every year.

Pretty disappointing. Some of Jaylen's in-game dunks last night were more impressive.
-
I didn’t catch the game last night (but caught the highlights) but watched tonight’s events... pretty weak imo.
I really don’t know how to fix it. It may just be dead.
I guess if all the Saturday nights events featured only all-stars, that’s would make it good, but they simply don’t want to do it.
I’d say we had what, 18 participants across the 3 events? How many were all-stars? Off the top of my head I can only recall Horford, Embiid, Drummond, Thompson, George, Lowry, Beal. and Oladipo. Thats 8 (maybe I forgot one or two) of 18. There’s no reason they can’t put together a better event using the 24 all-stars.
NBA should push them to do it. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Durant vs Steph vs Klay in the 3pt contest? LeBron finally do the dunk contest (cmon, let’s be honest, punk move to never do it)!
Skills Challenge:
Horford
Embiid
Drummond
Davis
Lillard
Harden
Dragic
Walker
3-point Shootout:
Curry
Thompson
Durant
Irving
George
Beal
Dunk Contest:
James
Antetokounmpo
Westbrook
Oladipo
Or something like that. But how much more interesting is that? No disrespect to the guys that participated tonight, props to them, but this is ALL-STAR weekend. I just don’t get how the best players are such divas and don’t want to have fun for the fans. Would anyone still not think LeBron is a top-10 player of all time if he can’t put down his first dunk and flushes a lame one on his second? Who really cares?
It’s a shame this weekend went from Jordan vs ‘Nique to Mitchell vs Nance, Jr.
-
I don’t mind the 3 point contest at all, but it might be time for a change with the dunk contest, and the skills challenge does nothing for me.
I’d love to see a 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 competition, and also horse (not involving dunks).
-

Horse would be awesome! The problem with it though for a live televised event, is the length is totally unpredictable and could take forever.

They tried some version of horse once already, and it was a pretty big flop.
I like the skills challenge, but they need to spice it up a little bit. Add an extra challenge or two.
The dunk contest is what it is. Some years it's great, other years it's a dud.
I thought they should have kept the shooting stars challenge. It was a neat 'team' event that brought in old timers and women to kind of mix it up a bit.
Obviously the three point shootout is still the best event, though. No need to mess with that much. I did like the old format better, but it's fine as is.

Here's an idea to improve the quality of competition in the All Star Game:
Get rid of the Game MVP award and only hand out a Defensive Player of the Game Award with a substantial cash prize.
As bad as the game has been, I always liked rooting for the East because it was my home team. Having no allegiance and Celtics on each side is weird.

Which is exactly why it will never happen.
After a few years we'd end up with a bunch of Marcus Smart's dominating in an early 90's Mike Fratello type scoring game. Team Smart beats Team Tony Allen 72-67.

Yeah, I agree - this is a fantastic idea! You could even expand it to an All-star Defensive Team of 5 players to provide even more competition. I also agree with the East vs West thing - not having an allegiance to either side makes it even less interesting this year..
-
I like that all star game idea for the defensive player award.
The skills contest is kind of a joke. It’s so short that it’s highly flukey. Whoever wins the dunk contest can claim to be the best dunker that year and whoever wins the 3 point contest can claim to be the best 3 point shooter that year. Those titles have a little bit of meaning. I don’t think anyone considers the winner of the skills challenge to be the most skilled. Or even above average in skill.

They should replace the skills challenge with a 3 on 3 tournament or a HORSE tournament. Add a time restriction in HORSE to make it feasible for TV, like however is ahead after a specific amount of time wins, or it goes to next letter wins.
-
Didn't they have a HORSE competition. I remember Rondo did great in it and was in the Finals against, I think, KD. Rondo lost. But it was incredibly boring and drawn out.

It was never fully a part of the all-star weekend, and I believe didn't air on tv. They also didn't organize it well. They could put a time restriction on it and spark it up with some bigger names, replace the skills challenge with it.
A one-on-one tournament would be totally awesome too. Play up to 11, 1 pointers and two pointers (behind the 3pt line), and no free throws, call your own fouls. Single-game elimination. I would love to see that.

Oh I remember watching it on TV. I also remember that it was held in a different arena than the other events were happening at.
-
When does the game actually start? Half an hour? An hour?
-
What's all this pre game idiocy going on at the All Star game? Makes no sense. It's like they suddenly think they're American Idol
-
This pregame nonsense is awful.
-
Wow they actually brought cousins out in the crutches to be introduced
-
Oh good. College basketball is on
-
Watched during a commercial break briefly. Stiiiillll singing and dancing. They should just turn the place into a dance club
-
This whole thing is so bad... way too much glit and glam. Just play the game already...
-
Fergie delivering an all-time bad anthem.
-
Dear Fergie...you were and always will be awful.
Terrible.
-
Yikes, that might be the worst rendition of the national anthem that I’ve ever heard.
This whole pre-game show has been.... strange.

Stiiiillllllll not playing
-
and now another 30 minute warm up
-
Oh my god just play the game.
-
Hey now, this looks much more competitive than previous years at least!
-
Kevin hart disses kyrie about flat earth. Also said horford added a 3 pt shot to his game but the real long shot was him marrying miss universe
-
Those jerseys are really dull and boring.
-
I hate these long three pointers 5-10 feet beyond the three point line. Frickin' awful!
Just play. Stop screwing around. It is not a shootaround at practice.
-
Big men are dominant so far tonight. Nice to see finally
-
Too many ad breaks. Stopping the game's rhythm.
-
This is supposed to be an All-Star game but their shooting percentages are more reminiscent of the Celtics recently
-

Nothing against Horford's wife but it's not like he married up, he's a rich, handsome nba star. That's not a beauty and the beast situation, they are on a level field. I know it was a joke but it's not like Al is an ugly minimum wage player. Heck, min wage is a rich man. (holding off naming an ugly player because beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
-
Lot of dribbling in the halfcourt. Not much movement without the ball.
-
This game is horribly boring.
-
That move with the off hand by Kyrie was insane.
-

You know Brad Stevens is the coach of your favorite team when you start demanding off ball movement in the All-Star game.
-
Other than the format (definitely prefer East vs West), I am okay with however these guys want to play. This is supposed to be a break for them, yet all of them still come out and take part in the 'festivities'. Compared to the the Pro Bowl, this is a dream come true for the casual NBA fan.
Things always intensify in the latter part of the game anyway, so be patient - they are competitive athletes afterall!
-
Look out for Westbrook in the second half. He's due.
-
This has actually turned into a really good game. Kyrie is locked in nearing a triple double!
-
Lol even in the All Star Game the refs are incompetent. That was pretty clearly off of Embiid’s legs on the replay.
-
Great ending.
-
That was a much better game than past years. Just seeing that the teams actually cared about winning the game made for a better experience.
-
this was very fun to watch! can't remember the last time it was this competitive
-

yeah by far the best all-star game that I can even remember...
Looks like they found a good format that works with the current game / players.
I have to admit I was rooting for team Lebron, mainly because of Kyrie.

It was a great game. After Daytona 500 and college basketball and I think there's some hockey today, overall a good day for sports watching

Steph should have passed the ball to Klay at the end. He was right behind him. He would have had some clearance to shoot the 3, do to his height. No way Steph would. Popcorn isn't energy food/snack.
-
While I kind of felt like the 1st half was a snooze-fest, that actually turned out to be an entertaining, competitive game in the 2nd half.

curry plays too much hero ball. His 3 pt % was terrible

Other than some long distance chucking the 1st half was fine. They played some defense and it was a 2 point game at the half.
-
Most entertaining all-star game of any sport, I've seen in recent memory.
Irving missed a bunch of shots but ultimately played really well. Though he really keyed that late charge by team Lebron.
Felt weird to root for Lebron, but Kyrie is so fun to watch in this environment.
-
Congrats to the league. That was a really pleasant surprise. It absolutely resembled an NBA game. From the players, to the coaches, to the refs the approach was completely different than its been. That takes honest effort to pull off successfully, but they definitely did it.
-
My question..
After watching that and not seeing Butler play a minute..
Who among these allstars do not return next yr and who should replace em?
Or maybe we just cut the team down to 10 each teams because theyd be playing for something next yr which means slightly more competitive specially in the 4th qtr.

That's why he didn't play.

Did you actually watch the game? It was quite competitive especially in the 4th qtr. It is just an exhibition game. We don't need the stars getting ultra competitive and getting injured.

I really like the Celtics version of the al star jersey Al and Kyrie wore.
