If Thomas is returned to Boston who starts at guard for most the season while he is hurt?

he's never putting on a Celtics jersey again.  not after this.

what will happen if this deal gets voided is, Ainge will have to trade him somewhere else for way less value.

but the trade will fail , bc IT4 won't be able to pass the physical

So he'll stay off the court until he can pass a physical, then get traded.

Also, teams can waive physicals, so a team trading for IT as damaged goods could choose to do so.

We can't give up Tatum, brown, or Lakers pick. We already gave them a prized pick. Give them a "sweetener" like the Memphis pick and tell them to go away

Preferably id like to give them a 2nd rounder or late first

Boy, what a mess. Neither team wants this rescinded.

I'm sure they want to keep the deal regardless. They weren't getting anything more valuable than that Brooklyn pick.

However, while there's already like a 75% chance that Lebron leaves next summer anyways, hamstringing that team without IT for a large portion of the season would essentially be escorting Lebron out of the door. I'm sure that's what they're worried about the most.

Then again, it could just be them trying to angle for more, specifically Tatum.

They may not, but I would love to see the deal rescinded. Terrible trade only continues to get worse and worse. Disastrous. If I'm Danny I give the Cavs a few days to decide before I take my assets back and trade IT for picks..

Danny does not want Thomas back. There is zero future with that guy. Him returning to Boston makes  them worse

what a huge mess.   it would be interesting to know what exactly the C's told Cleveland about IT's condition. If they didn't misrepresent it in any way, what recourse does Cleveland have?  I guess they can just get their doc to not pass IT's physical and then they can bomb the trade if they want to.

The thing is Cavs have just as big of a problem as we do if this doesn't go through.  If the trade is voided, we can waive IT, or he can just continue rehabbing for as long as it takes.  It would seem unlikely that he ever puts on a C's uniform again.  Either way we get Crowder and Zizic and the Nets pick back, and we don't give IT the max after this season.  It hurts our chances this year, but after this season it leaves us exactly where we probably would have been anyway had the trade not happened.

We'd think they don't have leverage, right?

I hope Danny thinks the same way. All the assets we give up, we can move again for someone else. Cavs would risk losing a very valuable asset AND LeBron.

Ball is on their court.

MAYBE

I think it is sound to assume the HEAT were also in the running for Kyrie and offered a package including Dragic , Winslow and a future 1st.... but the Celts beat this offer .... however with an unknown health status of IT4..... Cavs may like this package a little better.... or they just want to try to squeeze a little more out of Danny

Danny may include one of the non lotto picks ... I hope he doesn't have to include Rozier.

The more I think about this, the more it doesn't make sense and seems mainly like a ploy from Cleveland to get more, or at least something different. It's not like Danny was going to undersell the injury; he knew they'd put him through a rigorous exam and physical.

I wonder if this is a move to try and get younger pieces, such as Tatum, who they really pushed for early in the trade talks. Or it could be that Lebron has intimated that he's leaving next summer regardless, so they're looking for a trade that sets them up more for life after Lebron.

There is no way we are giving up Tatum, Brown or the Lakers pick as an add on to this trade.  No way, no how.

How about no, and take back all we gave up.

Where else can Cleveland get that kind of value for their disgruntled star? Would they really rather have Brogdon and Middleton along with Love after LeBron leaves?

We should NOT give up anything else. We are already overpaying. If they void the deal, take our assets back and trade it somewhere else. Worst case scenario is we have three unsettled players and the Brooklyn pick back.

Danny won't include Tatum nor Brown no matter what

so worst case it is prob a non lotto 1st or Rozier

Even if they are expecting Lebron to leave and weren't looking to re-sign IT, they'd still have been wanting to make one last championship run.  It could be they were told IT would need surgery in the future but that his hip should hold up for this season.

This also impacts Trader Danny and his trading methods with the NBA. Now NBA teams will not deal with Danny after fleecing Brooklyn years ago and causing this stir with Cleveland.

Danny sure has a strong reputation of his trading ways. Ugh.

I'm a bit confused... how can you trade for a known injured player and then void the trade due to said injury... Thomas' hip was not hidden from Cavs when decision was made.

TP.

This is the weird part for me as well.

They should have known coming in that Thomas is still dealing with a hip injury, yet they agreed to the deal anyway. Unless Ainge mislead them on IT4's medical reports, why are they all of a sudden going for a void for said injury?
Everyone knew he had an injured hip.  But not everyone had access to his medical.  Big difference.  So sure, the cavs took a chance that he would be fine with no long term issues.  But apparently that is not the case.

Doesn't this make the deal much more sensible? If these reports are to be believed and IT's hip is worse than we thought, then essentially the deal is closer to something like Crowder, Zizic, and the Brooklyn pick for Kyrie, because there was no way in hell that Danny was going to give big money to IT with a significant injury on top of all of his other "big money contraindications."

I think this deal is just looking better and better for us, because at this point it looks like IT might have not played very much at all this year.
